  4. This is Brian, to echo what Zephir said. We usually plan on Tuesday nights out at Huzzah Hobbies in Ashburn, VA. We have a regular group of 3-4 players that occassionally will grow to around 10 players when everyone comes out. We are going to be running a 45SS single master tournament on May 10th. The idea is to support the group that is just getting into Malifaux by limiting it to one master. Keep checking the boards for more info.
  5. We had 10 people join the league on Tuesday! Quite the turnout. There is still plenty of time to come out and join. PM me or stop by the store next Tuesday!

  15. I second that! How the check does his tail go together
  16. Sirdir is one tough nut to crack. He is mostly there for his defensive abilities and the save the master abilities. If you get MaCabe into a bad spot dropping camo on him is going to work well. You also have to make sure he is within 5" of the master so using keep up is going to be critical. Don't forget the riposte trigger. Getting Sirdir up to a 7 df with camo and using by your side can cause some nice interactions for you. Just like with justice, hold that high mask for defense and turn the tables on something. He is a piece that is a big departure from how i normally run guild. Then again most of this book is too. If Sirdir last until turn 4 he has done his job.
  17. If you are going to use Companion with the Ortegas, also try to target models that have not activated. A lot of times it is better to wait for your opponent to come into range then activate something, then have your opponent come into range again. You will also find a play style you like. Some people like the Obey Papa Bomb strategy. Others prefer to avoid Papa. Head the earlier advice though. Companion is your greatest friend and biggest enemy...
  18. If Gaki A uses this ability and Gaki B is 5.5" away, then there are two Gaki less than 6" away from Gaki A. Gaki A is 0" away and Gaki B is 5.5". 0 < 5.5 < 6 so you can devour. Within means: x<=6; not 0<x<=6
  19. There is one caveat to this whole thing. When you are attacking with a spell, you must declare your total (i.e. cheat and stone) prior to your opponent flipping for resist. Once your casting total is declared it can not be changed. See p. 52-54 in your handy dandy Rules Manual
  20. Is there an official ruling / clarification that expands upon what an effect is? It seems that there is a lot of tribal knowledge and inference in some of these explanations. I am reading the rules one way, and you are reading them a different way. Both are valid, from what I can see in the rules. I am just trying to figure out why everyone has determined that this is the way it is. I should probably just shut up and accept it and let other people tell me when effects happen and when they don't, but it just doesn't make sense to me.
  21. If there is no effect on her, how is the card changed? If a model's base state is their card, then there has to be an effect to change that, otherwise, they are at their base card. I do not see how Hoffman can ignore the discard effect, it is not specific to Constructs? "Exploit Design Flaw [soulstone Torch]: Target Construct damaged by this Weapon is killed unless its Controller discards two control cards." He can not ignore the target requirement since it is a trigger and not an effect. The discard effect is not applied until the model is damaged. At which point the Effect, "is Killed or unless it discards" is applied to Hoffman, it is no longer Construct specific. When does the Trigger get turned into an effect and what is the wording on that effect? I have met the targeting / application requirements, now the effect is the resolution stage. I have read the section 8-10 times and it makes zero sense in trying to understand when there is an "effect" and when there is not an effect. The definition of an effect is changing a model's state, but no where in the rules manual (I've searched) does it mention now a model's state is changed. Sure there are some obvious implications but the word effect is used heavily and is a major part of the game, how am I supposed to differentiate between what is an effect and what is not an effect for the numerous abilities that key off that distinction? I am specifically thinking of Dispel Magic and Spell Breaker. The worst part is that I know how you are going to answer but I don't understand why...
  22. So, I thought I understood how effects worked, but I think now I am confused. An effect (Slow) can remove the Fast Ability from Perdita's card, changing her state. But there is no way to now remove that effect, that changed the card, even though Perdita is still affected by it because it is gone. If effects are anything that changes the model's state from card, how can I not dispel the effect that removed Fast? Ratty said (http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?25721-Dispel-Magic-Question&highlight=What+is+an+effect), So given that, let's assume we have some Hoffman on Hoffman love going on. Hoffman A attacks Hoffman B, triggering SoulStone Tourch Burning Something (don't have the card in front of me) which says something like Target Construct's controller must discard 2 cards or the model is killed. Hoffman B invokes his Perfect Machine Ability, which ignores any effect that can target constructs. This doesn't work since the Trigger is written on the card and not an effect. I know that is not the intent, but what an effect is / isn't is pretty poorly defined. I am just trying to understand what effects are vs. Abilities vs. Triggers vs. Talents vs. etc. Effect is a pretty important keyword when using a Witchling Stalker's Dispel Magic and it is not defined well enough to make any sort of firm rulings.
  23. So if Perdita gains slow outside of her activation, the Slow action modifier will counteract the Fast action modifier. Then since she has not yet activated, on her next activation, she will be affected by her Fast ability and have 3 general AP? Or does the sentence read: "She regains the Fast Ability at the end of her current activation or the end of her next activation." So since Fast, Slow, Paralyze and Re-activate are all action modifiers (p. 34), none of them can be dispelled because they are not effects? Even when Coppelius gives a model Paralyze, the Witchling Stalker could not come back and dispel that?
  24. So if the Slow effect cancels the Fast effect in this manner, both effects are temporarily removed from the card. Three questions. 1. Can a Witchling Stalker Dispel Magic the Slow effect off, thus regaining fast, sounds like no? 2. When does Perdita re-gain the Fast effect? 3. If you use a Witchling Stalker to dispel an Ability from a card, say Melee Expert, how long is that ability gone?
