  1. I've been looking at the Purifying Flame for my Sonnia crew, but I'm not sure I can see the point. For most of Sonnia's spells, we need a high tome for the totem. I'd rather save that high tome for one of Sonnia's casts. Maybe just use it for flame walls? I don't know. Experienced Sonnia players; do you use the Flame? Or is it a waste of SS?
  2. If anyone else on the forum here is like me, I like proxying crews I'm interested in before I buy them so I don't pick up a crew I'll end up disliking and never using. This has saved me quite a bit of money on what would have been bad decisions. For example; I love Leveticus. I love the idea, the fluff, the concepts, everything. Except playing him. I guess I just can't grasp his strategy fully, and I've found the games I've played with him to be counter-intuitive and difficult against a variety of opponents. So, does anyone else have any similar stories? Any masters or other pieces you find frustrating to play, despite your love for them?
  3. Well, my usual Viks list looks like this at 25SS: Viks Convict Gunslinger Misaki Hans 5 SS 5 models in a 25 is about right, and I have quite a bit of ranged superiority. Usually, I'll put Hans with a clear firing line to an enemy objective (evidence, claim, etc.) and keep that down. Gunslinger will advance ahead a bit and slow movement with suppressing fire (against moderately clumpy crews, this is really fun). When I'm lucky, suppressing fire can empty their hand, giving Hans a good chance with headshot. Misaki usually does her own thing, using fire or thunder to make people sad in melee. Wind is a great ability, too, and Earth has led to some silly objective taking. Another tip is to try juking the Viks-Advance one up the field, leave her "open" to attack, then switch and dominate with whichever one works better at the time (sword or gun Vik). It can really mess with people.
  4. Get him a killjoy. Think of it-Leveticus runs up the field, sacs himself, Killjoy enters, and you get a new fate hand! Killjoy is quite fun with Leveticus
  5. How about one of the M&SU miners? Just an average day laborer that discovers some latent power. He could have other miners, lots of digging skills, maybe some repair/healing abilities. Molotov cocktails could make a lot of sense. It would be kind of fun to see a miner using the constructs designed for mining using them for fighting. Kind of a brawl-heavy crew.
  6. I almost feel like the Arcanists and Resurrectionists would make better allies. Both of them want freedom, both want to do what they please with their magic. Of course, Guild and Neverborn don't exactly get along either... What are you planning on doing with outcast factions? I feel like some masters would do better with certain alliances; i.e., Som'er would probably fight with the Neverborn as a native species. Leveticus would side with the Arcanists and Resurrectionists, since he is kinda both at the same time. Hamelin, despite being a tyrant, would go with the Neverborn. Would Hoffman go back to working for the Guild? Or is he sick of their corruption?
  7. Ramos for this guy! He can play multiple roles fairly well. Support, summoner, a bit of strong damage-he can do lots of stuff. Mostly, his summoning is what makes him great-if he's dedicated enough, he can add 18 pts of models to a game-nothing to sneeze at!
  8. The Governor is a tyrant entity-specifically, the weakest of them. He runs the guild to maintain control over the power flow of Malifaux and use his resources to weaken/destroy the others, until he can rise above and take all.
  9. In the Rising Powers fluff, I seem to remember that Candy grew up some during The Event. I'd love to see that! Unless, of course, they've already planned that as an alternate version of her for the next book, like they did to Hamelin.
  10. One thing I love about the showgirls is how darned good they are with the movement-heavy objectives. My girlfriend started playing the same time as me, choosing Collette namely for aesthetics, but she understood the tactics behind it instantly. In her first game, She flipped destroy the evidence. With some clever Cassandra usage and Coryphee Duet skills, she destroyed ALL the evidence by turn two, completed an announced sabotage, and put Hans out of work. Cassandra put so much pressure on Hans that he couldn't do anything, really, and slowly, over time, via hit-and-run, she kept Ramos' swarms from ever growing. Collette is brilliant as a Master. Countering her requires a great deal of foresight, I've noticed, but from my understanding, so does playing her. In all my games against Collette, I've felt like the game was being played a turn ahead of what was going on. Great fun. Also, out of curiosity, has anyone tried pairing the girls with the Convict Gunslinger? I've seen it mentioned in earlier posts I think, but I was wondering if anyone still did that.
  11. Me-Escape and Survive, First Blood, Exterminate (Construct, Announced) Viktorias Hans Convict Gunslinger Misaki Cache 5 My Friend-Destroy the Evidence, Breakthrough (Announced), Stake a Claim (Announced) Rasputina 3 Ice Gamin (Larry, Curly, Moe) Johan December Acolyte Cache 5 |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Viktoria cursed herself quietly as she led her band of mercenaries through the destroyed city blocks of Malifaux. The job would be easy, they told her, just a quick get in, steal some evidence, get out mission, they said. Well, here she was, running from that crazy ice queen and her creepy little Ice Gamin. Damn, those things were creepy. As she led her remaining force over a collapsed building, she turned to take stock. Hans, the sniper famous on two worlds, had somehow managed to keep pace, even while lugging that ridiculously large rifle around. She nodded at him as they took refuge behind the fallen building, and he climbed a nearby wall to keep lookout. Next over the building was Misaki, a woman that Viktoria could respect; her skill with her bishento was incredible. Behind her was a convict gunslinger whose name Viktoria couldn't remember. Honestly, she was surprised he had made it. Taking up the back was Viktoria's doppleganger, the Neverborn other that was always present. From atop the wall, Hans called down to the panting mercenaries, "She's coming!" Viktoria nodded to her mercenaries. "They're not gonna let up. We have to make a stand here. Try to get out at quickly as you can. Take some of them down if you can, to slow their pursuit-If anyone can take out those creepy little ice buggers she's got, there's a bonus in it for you." Viktoria started throwing the evidence against the arcanists she'd been tasked to steal by the guild. "We'll bait them in with this. You know what to do." Turn 1: Initiative: Rasputina Rasputina sent Larry down to destroy some evidence cordoned off by a wall between Viktoria's crew and the evidence marker. Hans, who had a clear shot at the Acolyte (He didn't use the advanced deployment), dealt some early game damage. The acolyte decided to push forward to protect Larry. Misaki activated and cast Earth, allowing her to run through the wall separating the Viks from the evidence. Johan, employed by Rasputina, started walking towards a different piece of evidence. Gunslinger activates and moves to get LoS on Johan. Rasputina Ice Mirrors December's Touch through Johan, but misses. Sword Vik runs towards the Acolyte, switches with Gun Vik, and Gun Vik fires on the Acolyte. Curly and Moe walk towards the second piece of evidence by Raspy and Johan. Turn 2: Initiative: Rasputina December Acolyte harpoons Gun Vik but doesn't pull. Gun Vik retaliates by shooting, but misses both times. Rasputina keeps pushing towards evidence, casting Whiteout to protect herself from the Gunslinger. Gunslinger manages to suppression fire Johan, Curly, and Moe. Johan shoots the Gunslinger in retaliation. Misaki casts Fire and charges, successfully destroying Larry, protecting the first piece of evidence, but Larry's trigger ends her activation before she can lash out at the Acolyte. Hans finishes up the Acolyte. Curly activates and tries to shoot the gunslinger but misses, prompting more faster than you goodness, continuing towards the evidence. Sword Vik gives Fury to both Viks and moves to a better position. Turn 3: Initiative: Viks Misaki starts to return to the deployment zone, where she can try to help out the Viks. Rasputina destroys the first piece of evidence. She December's Curses the Gunslinger, prompting no blasts, and uses Whiteout again. Hans fires on Curly, bringing the Ice Gamin to critically low health. Curly pimpslaps the gunslinger, who promptly pistol whips him back. Curly succumbs and First Blood is satisfied while Convict Gunslinger heads for cover, his health starting to get kinda low from the shatter. +1 Viks. Moe, the lone Ice Gamin left, moves up the field towards Vik's deployment zone. Gun Vik moves up to slash Moe, but misses. Johan moves in to cover Moe. Sword Vik switches with Gun Vik and proceeds to swing her sword, but alas, fate would not have it. Turn 4: Initiative: Rasputina Rasputina punishes Sword Vik for her impudence by casting Biting Chill, succeeding cast after cast despite frantic soul stone slinging on both sides, finishing the job with a december's curse and whiteout. Sword Vik goes down. Hans shoots Johan, bringing the musclebound warrior to low health. Johan lumbers up and swings his hammer at Convict Gunslinger, but he misses. Rasputina, sensing an imminent defeat at the hands of the well-entrenched Outcasts and feeling pressed for time, concedes defeat. All in all, Convict Gunslinger had an excellent chance of bringing Johan down and retreating to safety. Gun Vik was in an excellent spot to finish extermination, and Misaki was almost back to where she could help repel a lonely Rasputina. If not for time pressure, the battle would have likely ended with 1 VP for first blood, 2 from exterminate, and 2 from their scheme (Hans would have had to climb down from his perch to get to full VP, with no time to do so) vs Rasputina's 0. Any criticism would be welcomed. My friend and I have been playing for a little while now, and he's really starting to get the hang of Rasputina. He was plagued mostly by early bad luck and a well-positioned resistance force of strong units. I apologize if anything is unclear as this is my first battle report.
  12. I hail from the frozen wasteland that is Montana. Thanks for the tour! The Governor's a bit creepy (don't tell him I said that)
  13. Well that was a bumpy train ride. Anywho, I'm goldenjester, and I finally decided to stop lurking. Looks like a nice forum here, and it's nice to meet everyone.
