  1. Short version: Vodoun is a religion, and the Vodoun Loa (somewhere between ancestor spirits and gods, and somtimes conflated with Catholic saints) like sacrifices. Some like rum, or perfume, or any of a number of things... but in a pinch, a lot of them like chickens (Example: Baron Samedi, the top-hat wearing chief guardian of the dead, specifically likes black roosters, strong rum, and foul cigars. In contrast, Erzuli, patroness of marriage and wives, like jewelry and perfume). Note that, as a real-world religion people actually practice, there's little chance of this finding its way into Malifaux, if previous statements on the subject of religion are any indication.
  2. His name's LevEticus. Not saying there's not some connection to the book of the bible that rants about abominations and killing people, but it' not spelled the same. /petpeeve
  3. So this came up recently... Coppelius Teddy Gamin BIG HOUSE Rasputina Golem Raspy bounces a December Curse off the golem onto Teddy. Since Teddy's engaged, the RM directs me to flip for him and everyone in range, including those not in LoS as possible targets. The targeting flip hit Coppelius, and Overpower triggered. Am I correct in understanding that the additional Overpower cast would hit Coppelius, despite the LoS blockage? Also, does the -3 ice mirror penalty continue to apply to Overpower? (I assume it does, but it never hurts to check)
  4. I think I speak for most of the Breast Cancer Brawl crowd when I say pink is in this year... ...says the owner of an all-pink Pandora crew (hot pink Teddy wants to play!)
  5. Yeah, he's resurfaced since I had last checked. Is it sad I actually consider this the worse option?
  6. Actually, the guy who predicted it hasn't been seen since. I firmly believe he ascended to Heaven. ...continued at an altitude of several thousand feet for a few hours, then descended from Heaven to a tropical island, where he will live off his Swiss bank account filled by believers. But that's just me.
  7. Pandora vs Perdita is VERY one sided until the Pandora player gets some experience under his belt, and even then, the odds are largely stacked in Perdita's favor.
  8. I have an all-comers Pandora list that works fairly well, but even that has felt constrictive at times. I wouldn't mind being "stuck" with Pandy, but I've seen fixed list tournaments, and I'm really not interested in doing that again. Ick.
  9. There are other worlds. Some of them are like Earth. Malifaux is like it enough. The Breach stretched a bit far that day, and the passengers got dropped off through the crack, in a world that... wasn't.
  10. Apropos of nothing, I recently learned that one of the head chefs at my university dining hall is named Zoraida. Anyone hungry?
  11. So I'm planning on attending a 40ss tournament where the last meta was, literally, 50% Dreamer 50% Ortegas. I'm looking at the following list: Leve Alyce (8) 3 arachnids (9) 4 abominations (12) 3 necropunks (9) That leaves a 2ss cache, 13 activations first turn, and results in 7 significant models running around (minus casualties). I've found Leve to be a very effective anti-alp bomb master, but no one in my meta plays the Ortegas. Thoughts?
  12. Disclaimer: I realize a more detailed discussion of tactics, assuming I go Leve, is probably better suited for the Outcast forum. I'm thinking: Levi (0 cache) Alyce (8 ss) 3 necropunks (9 ss) arachnid swarm (9 ss) 4 abominations (12 ss) In a 40ss game, that's a cache of 2, and with the auto-waif and the spiders separate to start, that's 13 activations, so I can idly burn "useless" activations while the Ortegas move up, then see if Leveticus or the abominations / desolation engine can reach anybody. Otherwise, move forward in cover and wait until turn 2. Try for one or more of the Voltron constructs to form up and eat Mexican cowboy monster hunters while the necropunks run around and handle objectives. Once I have the requisite VP, I can have the necros start Slowing people and/or helping in combat. I lack any of the horsemen as yet, so they will not be making it into a list.
  13. So I'm considering a tourney later this month, but last time this place held one, about half the entrants were running the Ortegas (this following a previous tourney that had a solid showing by Pandora...). Perdita is all but unused in my local meta, so I don't have much practice against her. As I usually use Pandora in tournaments and have no desire to sit through three rounds of "See the Unseen," (so glad I missed the last Perditafest) I'm looking at what else I have that might help me enjoy playing against that least fun of minis wargaming builds, the gunline... It's easier to list who I don't have than who I do: Lady J, McMourning, Rasputina, Marcus, the Viks, Som'er and all henchmen are off the table (for now) Other considerations: While I have the Ortegas... I don't mind mirror matches, but no matter how solid rock is, you beat it with paper, not by hitting it with another rock. I'd like to shake up the tourney meta a bit and not just reinforce "everyone uses 'Dita." My plans for basing Collette are sufficiently time consuming that I don't think I can get her crew converted and painted by the tourney, which is sad, because force-feeding the Family a coryphee duet would be quite gratifying. I kind of want to use Leveticus, but I'm not sure how well he does against them. Advice?
  14. I prefer Poltergeist over Primordial Magic, myself. PM gains +1 :tomes Ca and an extra control card in exchange for 3 Df and 1 Wp, in addition to an assortment of Wp tests and the ability to induce Slow without a test. I'd rather have my totem survive longer and do more than Magical Extension each turn, but that's just me. If I want arcane reservoir I'll hire Jack Daw. On a broader note, I think part of the problem with Poltergeist's "nice to have" is, with Pandora, everything is "nice to have" and nothing's really auto-include. This makes her very flexible, but difficult to recommend a core crew for.
  15. Ugh, forgot special event markers. Added them. I do know I'm in no rush to build anything for Rasputina, Kaeris, Crooked Men or McMourning as I don't own them, and 75% of the games I play right now, I'm fielding both sides.
  16. So, in my overachieviness, I'm looking to create custom counters and based terrain for just about any eventuality in Malifaux. I've got 2 corpse counters, and know I need more, as well as 6 scrap counters (playing lots of constructs lately) and a treasure counter for treasure hunt. I am NOT looking to make any tokens or counters that don't go on the board, so no eyes, poison, blight, blood, etc. (yet, anyway) I'm also looking for ideas on what to do for each of these. That said, what am I missing in the following to-do list? 2 blast markers 5 dynamite counters (lit) 5 dynamite counters (unlit) 3 evidence markers 1 claim marker 1 supply wagon 1 snare counter (Samael) 2 ice pillars (Rasputina) 2 fire pillars (Sonnia / Kaeris) 2 arcane apparatus 1 ancient monument 6 book counters 2 bags of soulstones (maybe 5, since I color code my soulstones by faction) 1 Hanging tree 1 Recalibration Device 2 Mysterious Effigies
  17. I realize you haven't stated you're taking the Dreamer as your master, but if you are, bear in mind he can't hire the Desperate Merc in a scrap.
  18. There were under-the-table tournaments last year and talk of more "official" ones this year. Did they get scrapped at some point? I'm not seeing them on the schedule.
  19. Seamus has shown himself to be able to make other forms of undead... he's the only one who's created a Henchman...
  20. I played in four tournaments last year between all the cons I hit. Of them all, only one opponent had more than a couple games under his belt (and that one claimed to play against Wyrd staff regularly - and was the first time I saw Leve in action -talk about a difficulty jump!) I can't speak for every tourney player out there, but I got my VP in polite as fashion as possible, and did what I could to help the newer players walk away with a partial victory. The only game I hated was when I played against the Ortegas with no terrain, but that was more the coordinators' fault (not a Wyrd-run tournament!). So while I'm sure there are some jerks out there, there's people like me too. Go for it, good luck, and make bad things happen!
  21. Leveticus. Leveticus. Leveticus. The small, unhappy noises when a master winds up a steampunk abomination is music to my ears (though Pandora shall always be my Schaudenfreude Mistress)
  22. Sorry if this got commented on already, but: Candy. It bothers me that there's no "innocence" in her "corrupted innocence." I think she's be a lot more unnerving and resonant if she were portrayed in a more naive light, not really realizing how she was hurting people.
  23. ...right, excuse me, I'm going to go hide under a rock until this term is over. Clearly being forced to read Jane Eyre and Shakespeare is forcing out all of the useful and fun knowledge I've been storing up...
  24. Bah, s'what I get for posting from memory, (1) thought it said "led by Arcanit Masters," and (3) been playing too much Leve recently, it seems he's bleeding over. My apologies. Though in my defense, my 2nd point should have clarified "Arcanist" constructs, which is what allows him to brawl with Ramos. My point was that he cannot Brawl with Colette, or any other Arcanist Master (or Kaeris)
  25. Technically any Arcanist master can take Coryphee, but here's why Hoff can only partner with Ramos, and why Ramos has to be the primary master, making it an Arcanist crew... 1. It must be an Arcanist crew to hire Coryphee, which means you cannot have Hoff as your primary master (Guild crew) 2. Hoff can only hire Constructs anyway (so only Ramos can brawl in his Guild crew) 3. If it's an Arcanist crew, they need some means of hiring a Guild master. Only Ramos has a rule allowing this, and then only for Hoffman (as he is a Construct from another faction)
