  1. You are targetting them with a strike so you do need the pitiful test.
  2. In about 99% circumstances I would rather doves. As in your example I can have moved a dove in and magicians dueled the model, rather than spent an activation of Colette doing the same. The effigy does look good for colette, but I don't think it replaces what it costs. I think it probably has a similar problem with all the other Arcanists as the totems they have access to generally really help their force (or in the case of Mei, the special forces models). I havent fully tried it yet, and everyone has a different play style. So give it a go, and see how it works for you.
  3. Hello I have a few suggestions, Firstly, as you learn I would suggest using smaller crews. It makes it easier to get your head around everything that is going on. Secondly, I would recomend not going into a game with the view that this is the crew you will play. The game set up allows you to pick your crew after you know your mission. Granted, when you only have a few models you will probably only have a few possible changes to make. (although if you buy everything you want for a 35 stone list, and then only play 25 stone games you will have a chance to mix and match for your mission) Both the suggested lists look that they will work together without any huge problems. Lileth will probably be a little easier to grasp the basic rules for, but certainly has the potential for plenty of Tricks as you get better with it. There is a reasonable overlap between the two crews and to be honest you could play either list with either master. Its also worth mentioning you don't have to spend every availible soulstone on models, you can also increase your masters Cache of Soulstone (up to a maximum of 8). Good luck with your first game.
  4. Don't understand what you are doing here? Are you giving one of them prey with an all action every time after you kill something? If they both have a prey, then hunting partner is both pointless and in fact actually impeeds. If neitehr have a prey then it does nothing, and if you have one get the prey, then its a turn behind the other so will struggle to catch up to give it hunting partner. At best I can see the following Turn 1 A gains a prey. B moves towards As prey. Turn 2, A moves towards B, and gives B hunting partner. B moves up to prey and kills it. Turn 3 B gains a prey, A moves towards it. Turn 4 B hunting partners A, and probably hurts its prey. A kills prey. Not really as good as turn 1 A gains a prey, B gains a prey. Turn 2 A and B move towards prey. Turn 3 A and B each reach Prey and kill it.
  5. No. Nothign in its wording gives the dead doxy the right to channel Inviting approach. But if some future model grants models the ability to Channel (0) spells, then the dead doxy is all set up.
  6. If you flurry you get to get up to 4 power counters, 1 for activating and 1 for each melee strike action you take.
  7. Currently the only crew it works is in a Kirai crew as the only outcast masters that can hire Nix are Hamelin and Leveticus, and neither of them can hire minion Hamelin. Nix himself has no rules to allow him to be hired out of faction, the only model that does is Kirais rules allowing her to hire any spirit. I think the intent was to still restrict the use of Nix as a very powerful model, so I wouldn't expect an errata to allow him to count as a mercenary. Imagine Sword Viks with a weak damage of 8!
  8. I just checked from Rattys download page (see his signature), I'm pretty sure he'll have the correct wording. I imagine that wording was put in delibreatly to stop obeyed models doing it.
  9. Whilst an obeyed model counts as a friendly model, I don't think it counts as a model in your crew. Or as your model. So you would need to check each interact action seperatly. From my reading Line in the sand - No Deliver a mesage - No Destroy the evidence - No Supply Wagon - Can't attack its own wagon. Shared Destroy the evidence - Yes, but it doesn't count for you at the end of the game. Also doesn't work for Grudge and Kill protogee, and steal relic. So as a general rule No, you can't obey an enemy model to inteact for you to gain VPs.
  10. Buildings will still block the spirits line of sight. So you can walk along the other sidde of a tall wall to a spirit without engaging it in melee, but it can happily walk through it to attack you (but not charge through as it doesn't have line of sight to you)
  11. You still have Pox's name wrong. He is Phil ( as am I) Count me in for this. Now which is the worst possible starter box in the game... Well Leveticus is a bit complicated for a beginners tournement, I don't own McMorning so that only leaves 1 possibility Team Marcus here I come! Now I just have to choose 2 models from Slate ridge mauler, Shikome and Blessed of December (1 for my summon pool).
  12. Apoligies, I think I missed a couple of months on the boards where the no damage 0 damage debate ended, and I was working on old rulings. According to the errata, the stage 6 (after resolving damage)triggers still occur even if no damage was dealt. I'm guessing the wording of a piece of me (after damaging a defender) counts as stage 6 (After resolving damage) rather than stage 5 (triggers which occur after inflicting 1 or more dg/wd).
  13. Correction- The executioner only heals if it kills an enemy model. The selected list is going to struggle against that Viks crew, as you've not picked much in the way of shooting. Some things you can try with that list are as follows. 1 Use Perdita to go after Hamelin early on. Her obey is the same range as his. Alternatively obey his minions into attacking hamelin 2 Use witchling stalkers against Hamelin. They have the reflect magic trigger at range to stop his obeys (hold on to high tomes) and when they get close, they have disrupt magic to stop his casting. There is nothing more funny than making Hamelin walk off the table to his own dance. I'm also happy for them to get engaged by the Viks in Combat, as they will hurt them when they die. 3 Keep the executioner and the Judge out of sight of Hamelin, even if this means they move slower that you want. 4The Executioner is a tough model for the Viks to kill in melee, as it will typically require at least 2 attacks and he can use his slow to die which can kill them in 1 blow. As a Vik player, I wouldn't want to put my Master next to an unactivated executioner unless i had 3 attacks or the Black Joker in my hand. I would worry enough about putting it next to an already activated one. As the guild player here I would consider using my Obeys from Perdita to speed up his movement and get him where I want him. In the master v master fight soulstone is your friend. You want plenty of it. The Viks are weak to ranged damage. They have a good defense, btu its not as high as most of your Cb values. Most of your models are looking at at least 3 damage as a weak hit which very quickly brings down a Vik.
  14. The majority of the friekorps are in Book 2, Rising powers. The box set contains all the currently availible friekorps models, so you can get the rules from the cards. The only thing you would need to know is that a Henchman can lead a crew in a scrap. If they are the leader, they are treated as a master for all purposes (ie, can't be obeyed). If they lead they can't have an end cache higher than their henchmen reserve, but they can spend the soulstone in their henchmen reserve on hiring. So for example the Friekorps box set has Von Schill, Trapper, Librarian, 2 Friekorpsmen and a Speciallist. This totals 26 soulstone. But as Von schill has a henchman reserve of 4 you could field this crew and have a cache of 3 in a 25 soulstone game. The friekorps strongarm suit is a model in book 4 Storm of Shadows, but hasn't yet been released
  15. My best guess is that no counter is dropped and nothing else is summoned. I don't have the Ratcatcher to hand but similar abilities (like Coppelius) will paralyse instead of doing damage. If that is how the ratcatchers trigger is written, then they won't give blight counters, and on taking damage triggers won't apply as no damage was done. If it adds Paralysed to the damage profile then its still damaging so blight and triggers are as normal.
  16. The actual changes to the Dreamer, Lord Chompybits and the daydreams cards are very minimal. Every ability that calls out a nightmare, now calls out a non master nightmare, and the all done trigger needs to deal damage. Yes, updated cards would be nice, but there are several models out there that have a much higher need for new cards than the Dreamer.
  17. Guild are certainly capable of taking apart a well played Viktoria list. Regardless of the stratergy being played The Guild generally only need to hit a viktoria twice to kill one. Perdita, Enslaved Nephlim (for the obeys) Executioner, Sammual can be enough to kill the Viks. They need to rush forward to kill Sammual, as he can one shot them, but the executioner if used as protection for Sammual Hopkins can kill the Viks. Perdita and the Nephlim can use obeys to gain extra actions from the most appropriate model. Fill the rest of the list with cheap models to gain activation control. Papa is another model that will cause the Viks huge problems in almost killing the model that kills it. Or Witchlings. And then you can add in an Austringer to force the Viks to come to you or be pecked to death. The guild certainly has the tools to defeat the Viks.
  18. Nino is very annoying, and the whole Ortega clan can be tough to deal with on an empty board. If you are facing them then you need to make use of terrain. Its also worth remembering that if Nino can shoot Misaki, and she can reach him to hit him in melee. Smoke bombs are obscuring, so will reduce shooting as well as he can only see upto 3" into a smoke bomb. If I remember correctly they will last until the Torkage activates again(possibly on a trigger), so it doesn't matter if you win or lose iniative, you can advance with huge reductions in enemy shooting Misaki has a defense that is the same as Perditas attack, so she will typically be at a negative flip for damage, so typically doing 4 damage. For her to be hitting you with a cheatable flip after she has used a ram to get +2 damage from critical strike you have either got to have had really bad luck to her good luck, or used up your hand and cache already. (And if thats the case, then learn for next time to save them for such a circumstance) So don't dispair, Perdita isn't as hard as she may first appear. Yes, the guild can do lots of damage, and she is hard to hurt, but killing isn't the aim of the game (unless you're doing slaughter or somethign similar) so focus on your victory points and keep out of clear line of sight to Nino
  19. Marcus has a huge range of models to pick from. Silurids and night terrors are good for objectives. Shikome and Blessed of December are both good for killing models and moving quickly. The Waldigiest is probably the most durable beast out there at the moment. Although Molemen do well against models that don't ignore armour. Don't be afraid to select any of the models from the Arcanist range even if they aren't beasts. The Corephyee duet is very survivable and great at objectives. The Rail Golem is a hard model to kill and can put out a huge amount of damage.
  20. The Main rules (seen in the rules manual and The Malifaux book 1.5) should eb what you need to play the game. If you are using an avatar model then you should be able to get by using the rules on the cards with the figure, but a more comprehensive rules explaination is in Twisting fate. If you are using a 10 Thunder crew (olr a dual faction master) and want to use their master specific scheme or faction specific scheme then you will want Storm of Shadows (also contains the Mounted rules fo Lucas McCabe). Rising powers, Twisting fate and Storm of shadows also contain the rules for the models. This is not required for play, as the rules will come with the stat card when you buy the model, but it can be useful for looking at what new models you want, or what your opponent can do. On RAre occasions the rules are updated from the book before the Card is released, to check for these you can use the card updates on the main Malifaux page.
  21. As I read it (so it may be wrong) You have a pool of models consisting of 1 crew box, 1 blister of your choice and 1 totem. You pick your crew from this pool each game. You can summon model types that already exist in your hiring pool and also 1 other type (picked at pool creation). So as Sonnia already has Witchlings in her hiring pool, she can summon as many as she likes. Kirai has 1 seishin in her box, so unless you pick them as your blister, she is limited to hiring 1 seishin, but can get any number during the game (remembering they are rare 5) The Traps can be your possible Summon minion as McCabe isn't going to summon anything else. But if they aren't your chosen blister then you can't hire them into your crew. Hope that makes sense
  22. If you are seeing the same crew start learning its attack ranges. For example if the 2 Viks are within 6" then your opponent can get 1 attack 20" away, 2 at 18" and 3 at 8" before you get to activate. I believe thats a similar threat range to Misaki. If you put models out in front to try and lure the Viks out then take them apart 1 at a time. If the modet you use is a threat in its own right (like Ototo who will be hard for them to kill in 2 strikes or a torkarage that can place anyone else there) then they can't ignore it. The Viks are very vulnerable to being hurt, only 7 wounds means they can be knocked out pretty easily with most combat models. So if they fail to kill one of your models it has a good chance to kill them in the retaliation.
  23. I would say that Sonnias card calls them markers. Lilith is only allowed to draw line of sight through terrain, so she can't draw it through the flame wall
  24. It being a zero action is irrelevent. the wording for both Pacify and incite only specify that they must be performed on models that aren't affected by pacify or incite. So a modle that has activated is still a legal target for the action. Even though the effect of the action is likely to have no effect, it is not trying to break the game rules (which summonign a third Waif would be) so the effect does not fizzle. Hope that answers your question.
