  1. I've actually never played a game WITH Ramos, but plenty AGAINST him. Obviously Ramos, the Toolkit, Colette, Doves, A pair of performer (I actually dislike running a pair of performers..I'm just no good utilizing them), Cassandra and a pair of Coryphees will put you at 35ss (without paying for the doves, you'll make those in game I bet) or 37ss with a single dove paid for. Above that? I'd add a Mechanical Rider into the mix. The thing that's tough with Colette, when paired with someone like Ramos is that Ramos is slow. Everything in the Colette crew is fast as hell. So you'll either be abandoning Ramos behind or to the side of your lines, or slowing everything down to babysit the old man. Along the mobility vein, I find Marcus is a better partner with Colette (retaining the speed with the Cerberus and the Rattler, and adding punch with both). Now Ramos being slow isn't necessarily a bad thing. He's a turret, easily being able to toss out two shooty spells a turn (which can help to soften up tough badguys a lot) and even with some luck pump out some spiders as well. If I were you I'd continue the colette theme of speed and combat while being speedy, and add more things that fit with her play style. Rather than trying to combine a Ramos and Colette crew, I'd add Ramos to a 40-50pt Colette crew. d
  2. Well like every dude I've been trying to get my fiancee to play nerd games with me. She already owns a multitude of Tyranids from GW ('cause they're cute!) and some Eldar that I made her paint (sorry?!) but I've really been wanting her to check out Malifuzz. So she looked through the books, and of course immediately settled on Colette and girls. So here's me painting them for her: Crummy picture take last morning around 4am. Better pictures taken today, with daylight. You can see the highlights on the colors much better: Cassandra will have strawberry blonde hair, while the green dressed Showgirl will have red hair, and the pink will be sporting either brunette or blonde. Colette will be sporting a mix of the blue, black and grey clothing, along with dark hair. What do you think about my first attempt to really paint cloth? d
  3. I don't think you'll have much room for anything else. If you include Cassandra, Coryphee (two, for the duet) and two showgirls you're looking at 35ss on the nose. I've seen a variant of the list that dumps one showgirl for extra SS as well. So unless you play to exclude both showgirls (why?!) or a Cory, or a Cassandra, I don't think you'll have room for the Mech. Rider. That being said, the Rider, with her chain spear and mounted combat, fit perfectly with the theme of the crew. Being able to move your opponent's models around, as well as dance around the table is mighty nice. d
  4. I'm actually REALLY excited for a Haemonculus led force. My old old DE list ran 6 Haemonculi and 3 squads of grotesques. I'm really excited to see what I can do with the new, larger grotesques (maybe I'll have something to do with my River Trolls finally!) as well as units of Wracks and Mandrakes. Yeah, I liked everything in the codex that was terrible. I'm even going to be planning on conversions for hellions as Warriors with gargoyle wings (YES I know scourges are supposed to be this exact same archetype, but I'll have the conversions done, painted, and pictures taken before the official models are released so I can claim I did it first!). Oh and maybe my metal talos will see action again... d
  5. Those Teddies are freakin' ace. I'm still in the process of painting an angry, sleepy-moon on the belly of my blue Teddy (so he can be bad Sleepy Time Bear) and you did WONDERFULLY on their belly designs. The toys are amazing as well, because they fit in with the whole "little kid" theme. Color me impressed. d
  6. Well right off the bat I love her theme. Angry japanese girl with angry japanese spirits? Yes please. I also know she busts up my Rasputina/kaeris crew pretty well (damn you immune to blast markers!). Her summoned spirit (Ikiryo?) is very nasty, and the fact that it keeps coming back (I'm right on that, right?) is pretty awesome. The fact that she's also a spirit factory (pumping out the little dragon dudes) is neat. I've always liked the Resurrectionist play style, where you endeavor to have more models in play at the end of the game than the beginning.. d
  7. That's actually I thought she'd be doing. Buffing all the belles and making them quicker. Now I've never played with a Red Chapel crew before, so I have no idea if that's something they need or want but that right there was one of her draws. Also, the whole forbidden knowledge thing (isn't that the one that acts like black blood?) is pretty sweet with the fairly resilient undead. I just like the idea of a cute girl running around with a tyrant spirit's relic item and a dude's severed head. d
  8. Well, I love silent ones, but that's mainly because they make crews of Frozen Heart models very hard to deal with. One option is to run Kaeris and Rasputina within a few inches of eachother (so Raspy makes Kaeris Frozen) and have a Silent One buffing their ranged attacks/spells. Both of these ladies are very good "turrets" to be tossing out a ton of firepower (or..ice..power..hah..). They both also afford you a great deal of board control with their placeable 50mm bases. I'd definitely get Kaeris a totem. Can she have an essence of power as well? If so, I'd do that. 6 for the Silent one gets you 43, and 2 for Essence makes it 45. This should leave you with enough Stones for a final dove and max SS for a brawl. Hope this helps. d
  9. I'll be there. I might be able to get my 40k team tournament teamies to participate even! Cake is always delicious. Just to let people know, there IS a Target (is it a Target? Regardless, it sells food like grocery items!) right by the usual hotel/convention/tournament center. I mean literally right by, within walking distance. d
  10. Thanks! Like most things "boney" it's from the GW plastic skeleton kit. They no longer make the same Vampire Counts kit (the new one is beautiful, but comes with different bits) so you'd have to buy a box of the Tomb Kings skeletons for it. d
  11. Just finished my Essence of Power/whatever totem I need model. I actually don't like most of the Malifaux totems (although the Wendigo is amazing) so I rummaged about in my bits box (when you play games like Warhammer 40k you tend to have bits boxes larger than your household pet) and found something I think is not only awesome, but can be used as multiple totems. What do you think? d
  12. So I'm excited that the Silent Ones are coming in December (who didn't see THAT coming?), but bummed I have to wait so long to dump money on another awesome Wyrd mini. I'm bummed that Kaeris isn't even on the schedule (especially because I'm so hot for her..get it?). So that got me to thinking... what to proxy for both? Kaeris: Now I'm pretty set on this model, as it's already a very M&SU looking model, although I'll have to add: To complete her, as well as: Silent One: The first picture caught my eye because it is pretty Native American feeling (which I envision a lot of the Cult of December is, sorta.) and it comes with the fox, which I love. She also looks pretty feral. The second I like because it again has that Native American feel, but seems too "naked" to me (although they ARE frozen hearted, so it wouldn't matter much to them). She's very dynamic as well. The third is sort of a mix between the two, less covered than the first, but still very savage. I'd replace her dagger (or paint it like an icicle). On all three models I'd be sculpting over their lower faces, to give them a similar mask to the art of the Silent One in Book 2. What do you think? d
  13. So I've finished my Rattler. What do you think? Yeah I know he's cold blooded so would likely die within minutes of being around Rasputina...But that's why she makes him Frozen Hearted! Har har... And my favorite: Yet another VERY enjoyable model to paint, thanks Wyrd guys! d
  14. Kaeris is actually 8SS, so you've got one more stone there! Against my earlier sentiments, I think I'm actually going to dump one Silent One. Nets me more SSs, and I'm thinking of swapping a Golem for Kaeris. The more I look at her the more I like her. Think about this: Rasputina makes friendly models within 4" Frozen Hearted (So Kaeris, obviously) while a Silent One will buff the range of her abilities(or she can use her 0 action to make Kaeris Frozen as well)..suddenly you're spitting out 13" Ignites followed by a pair of 15" Immolates (or Flame Wall). Obviously Kaeris endeavors to Ignite a pair of models, and either Immolate them or Immolate one tough model twice. Overheat also works well with Gamin. The spell says KILL target friendly construct, so the opposition will not only get a burning counter, but also take damage from the little guy shattering! I also cannot state how nasty Flame Walls will be, compounded with Ice Pillars, for board control. Obviously if Kaeris is going to be a gatling turret (being buffed by the Silent One, or Rasputina) she'll be activating a little later in the activation order(reducing the effective "control" of Flame Wall) but it gives her plenty of options. I've thought about dumping the Wall right in front of my models opponents wish to charge, making them make a terrible choice-sit there and get blasted (because everything in my list has pretty decent ranged attacks) OR charge the gamin-blockers and take 3dg on the way in. Oh and don't forget Bite of Winter off of the Gamin, any little bit helps! I think a list I'll try next tuesday will look like: Rasputina Essence-2 Kaeris-8 Gaminx3-12 Silent One-6 I'm torn between adding another Silent One, a Gamin, or my Razorspine Rattler. The rattler would be nice, because of the speed he adds to the list (like Kaeris!), and he could be Frozen as well (making his attacks/spells rather nasty when coupled with Bite of Winter for a late-turn whoopin'). A Gamin or Silent One would add more SSs to my pool, and add more ranged (especially the Silent One). Whatcha think? d
  15. As mentioned before, Soulstone Manipulation is once per activation, still though, great ideas. Thanks d
  16. Great read. Thanks very much for that. This'll help me and the lady when trying to not get our faces crunched by point and click masters. d
  17. I REALLY like the way the crew looks! May I suggest more color differentiation on the Good Doctor's gloves? Everything looks very nicely painted (especially for a Rez crew, where the "dirty" look fits perfectly!) but I definitely want to see Douggie's gloves stand out more! As it stands, they look like a continuation of his blue jump suit, and I think that even with a bit of a highlight, or an additional wash, they'd pop a lot more! I can't even think of anything else I'd change about the crew beyond that, great work. d
  18. It does help. I'm glad someone else is having trouble with beat-em-up crews as well. Guess I found her foil on my first game huh? That's clever. I actually was TRYING to do something similar, but having those doves around (as I can see now) is mighty important. Unfortunately since I didn't have the models made, I refused to create them (Sorry! That's the hobbyist in me!). I love love love sword dance. All day long. Making attacks while keeping mobile is amazing, and never once has it bitten me in the ass. Especially with those Coryphees. I'm also embarrassed to say that I actually discarded two cards multiple times, the "normal" way, and didn't get a SS from it. I love that blinding flash. I used it twice, to slow the gun viktoria that tried to pull off a long range shot at Colette. He didn't make the same mistake three times, though. I'm also noticing that having a good pool of SSs for those Coryphees and Cassandra is going to be a must have. How do you guys achieve this? Colette starts with 3, and if you play with the list Dolomyte and I do, this leaves you with 0 SSs from crew building. Do you typically ignore the schemes you can pick and gain 2 or 4 additional SSs and hope for your main objective? Sabotage just seems like such a no-brainer for Colette w/ Coryphees. Thanks, and great information. d
  19. So I got a game in with my girlfriend's Colette crew tonight. Played against a Viktoria crew (both Viks, Taelor, Johan, a Ronin, and Bishop) with Colette, two showgirls, two coryphees, and Cassandra. Game was going decently well till he started whooping my ass. I tried to Disappearing act Taelor and Johan (getting 20ish to cast, with the focus/Soul Stone, but only two tomes both times!) and I didn't realize how nasty that was, essentially removing them from the turn (especially nice if you do it before they activate...). I also noticed how prone to shenanigans the Coryphees are. Am I right in assuming that I can activate both of them, and as the last action of the second one, Dance Together, and allow the new Duet to activate that turn as well? Now it should be noted that I don't have any mechanical doves yet (that's my own fault), but at the end of the game he just got me into a corner and kicked the crap out of me. Any ideas on how I can stop this from happening? The Viks are pretty durable and TERRIFYING (not the ability!) in combat, and I'm worried crews like Lady J and Lillith will just pummel me into the ground. I did find the performers to be pretty useless, so I'm thinking of removing one of them entirely. Have you found Colette particularly vulnerable to getting her pretty little face stomped in? What are some tricks you use to prevent this? What about strategies that require you to stay put (like Claim Jump) and limit your amazing mobility? What should my 35 ss Colette crew look like? Any other help? Thanks! d
  20. Those coats are awesome. Did you actually use red all the way or did you highlight up from brown? GWs reds are terrible (even the foundation red is..meh) and if you did all THAT with their reds only, I'll be impressed. I'm not sure how many American paints you'll have over there, but the P3 line by privateer press is amazing. They actually have almost every single GW color represented in their line, and more, and I like their paint better (because it's easier/better to thin). You could easily do some water effects on the gremlin bases, some recessed areas that are all wet and slimy. Accent these with a few "tufts" of turf from train modelling companies and you're golden. I also like what you did with Lillith's swordbalde, VERY nice. d
  21. I had a lot of anxiety about the same issue, so I feel your pain. The way I finally solved it was to have transition bases. Like, my Convict Gunslinger (who has recently been yanked off his old base) has been given a new "victorian" base from Wyrd. I then used the same technique to add snow to the corner of it. The Colette crew I'm painting up for the girlfriend (as well as my neverborn) are all on victorian bases, while my rasputina crew (including Ice Rattler!) are all on snow/icicle bases. What this allows me to do is include him in all of my crews, with his base holding elements from the "edges" of each of the other factions. I tend to add little details on the base that match colors from each of the crews. His street lamp has the same colors as I'm planning for the trellises (is that the word I'm looking for?) on the Colette crew, while the leaves on his street are the same color as the drab green featured in Rasputina's crew. His skintone already matches the neverborn... d
  22. You notice how the game we're playing, and who's forums we're posting on has ripped just about every miniature and concept off from something else (Oh God, don't even get my started on Oogie Boogie!)?! I know this isn't exactly your point and don't take this as me riding your case, your post was just an excellent piggy-back point for this comment. Here's the great part: WHO CARES?! People need to ditch this idea that "omg that's ripped off from something else!" and get with the idea that "oh WOW that looks freakin' cool!" Which the DE do. After having played 40k for over 10 years (still my favorite game system/world/fluff) and playing DE as my initial army (back when the models were completely unique, and sucked) I'm VERY excited about the new release. They look great, are incredibly sexy (oh, and the DE warrior art pre-dates infinity, so suck it!) d
  23. I'm very excited about the silent ones as well. I'm still pretty new to the Ice Witch (been playing a hodge-podge Zoraida crew since the game was released) and I have yet to find her lack of speed an issue. Sure she's slow, but her crew is decently quick. What I've found is that I usually keep Rasputina towards the back of my table edge, and let her goonies do most of the lifting. The biggest hurdle to playing her well, I think, is making sure nothing gets close enough to put the hurt on her. I'm thinking my 35ss crew will be something like: Gaminx3=12 Ice Golem=9 Silent Onex2=12 Essence of Power=2 Sure that puts me right at 35, so no excess stones to toss around, but I do have a great fire-base (with Rasputina and both Silent Ones) and four tough models that can act as linemen to keep my witches safe, or as a mobile whacking force to fulfill whichever scheme I draw. Until the Silent Ones are out though, I'm thinking a Razorspine will fill in nicely. Why is it that people are really liking the Cerebus and NOT the rattler? The rattler just looks so nasty! d
  24. If I was the avatar of the ice god I'd never walk either. Just surf Thanks for the compliments! d
  25. So it's been a while since I've been able to post some more pictures, sorry about the wait! And a family portrait: Oh and about the icicles: They're just bits of Games Workshop sprue that were cut down to shape. I've got an entire bucket full of cast-away sprues of all different thicknesses (which is how I got the thicker and thinner 'cicles). They were jammed into the Green Stuff snow before it dried, to give the effect that the snow had built up around the edges of the 'cicles. It's also hard to see, but all the models were covered in gloss coat (except Rasputina, who's goggles/boots were given the same treatment). Hope you like! d
