  1. For this weeks league game, it looks like I'm going to be going against the other Gremlin player. I'm not really sure of his playstyle, so I don't know really what to expect. My playstyle is horrible. I absolutely suck at this game, in particular with the little green guys (0-4-1 in the league, with 2 of the loses being total blow outs). Last week I ran this list: Outcasts Crew - 35 - Scrap Som'er Teeth Jones -- 1 Cache 2 Giant Mosquitos [4ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Bayou Gremlin [2ss] Gremlin Taxidermist [6ss] Pigapult [4ss] Piglet [3ss] Piglet [3ss] Piglet [3ss] Piglet [3ss] against Pandora. It was 2vp-1vp, at the end of the game I had a Bayou Gremlin remaining. Get Yer Bro was unimpressive, only got it off 2 or 3 times, leaving corpse counters for the Taxidermist. The Taxidermist got Taxidermin' off once on that pile of corpse counters. I launched a couple pigs, but once teddy got into base with the Pigapult, it was the end of that. I have all of the Gremlin stuff, how should I use it at 35 points?
  2. A true nightmare... =D The pic is a little small, but it hides all the cleaning up I need to do.
  3. The thing is, Dark Haven as a line isn't defunct. Most of the green backs you see at the LGS are from the Dark Haven line. We don't know the methodology of the poll, we don't know their questions, and we don't know how the polled stores/distributors/guy with an ebay account answered. There are infinite variables we just don't know. Any one of them could completely skew the results.
  4. Nice conversions. The banjo guy is great. That's what she said!
  5. So people don't use Reaper minis for non-collectible tabletop miniature games?
  6. I would hope that a game store owner would be familiar with Reaper Miniatures and what exactly Dark Haven is. I would also assume that they were just reporting gaming miniature sales, not specific games. 95% of the orders the store I work at includes 2-10 Reaper minis, from restock to special orders to new miniatures. We get Alliances orders 2-3 times a week. Whether there is a current, or even available, rules set is largely irrelevant. People buy Reaper models for gaming, and they buy a lot of them.
  7. If they simply gather information from stores and distributors, it is no wonder Dark Haven showed up on the list. If their poll was "what are your sales figures for the different miniature lines you carry" of course Reaper will make that list. It is very possible that they don't ask for specific miniature games. Its also a possibility that they just request a quarterly report, and don't look at anything than whether its little metal/plastic men or not. Another important thing that needs to be considered is ~when~ the reports are compiled, and just how much of the quarter they look at. And if it is dollar figures or unit sales. If British Miniatures Company releases a very popular 60 dollar model that everyone needs 3 of, and the other guys have a couple of $13 dollar models that a player will only need one of, clearly British Miniature Company is going to come out on top. Don't forget about biased retailers reporting inflated sales of certain lines they prefer, regional bias towards some games, and who knows what other anomalies may appear. The poll is good for what it is, a broad, general, non-exact poll of assorted parties with their own interests at stake. It would be nice if there was a unbiased and open poll which took into consideration sales in dollars, units sold, and whether or not people actually played the game.
  8. Green stuff or Miliput or some other sort of modeling medium would probably work best. With GS, just mash a ball onto the base, get a smooth ceramic tile or other non-porous, glossy surface, lube it up with water, spit, KY, whatever you prefer to use, and "burnish" the bash on it. That is how I would start the cobblestone bases I did for my ressers. It gives a nice smooth surface to work from. You could also try plasticard, cutting out appropriate sized circles and placing them on the base.
  9. I'm thinking about picking up a Neverborn crew, anyone up for some games Monday between League games? I've got some half painted Resser stuff if anyone has Neverborn stuff they'd want to trade. Also, Pandemonium is now on Facebook and Twitter for anyone into those sorts of things.
  10. Isn't that the point of the thread? To generate questions, and then refine them so we can get the most bang for our soulstones on the rest of the official questions thread?
  11. I would guess the objective is to beat the stuffing out of your opponent while keeping as much of your stuffing in place as possible. I'd like to know more about the time commitment PW is going to take. Will it be a 5 minutes for rules, a lifetime to master thing? Will it be spend 2 hours reading the stereo instruction style rulebook? Once you get playing, is one game going to take up the rest of the afternoon? Will there be Organized Play? What format can we expect for that organized play?
  12. The primary feature is proper formating for your phone, so you don't have to zoom in and out and scroll all over the place. It also allows you to upload images from your phone, easy log in, notifications of new posts in threads you are subscribed to.
  13. There is an app available for assorted smartphone platforms called Tapatalk. It formats vBulletin and other forum systems so they are easier to read/use from a smartphone. Is there any chance of Wyrd adding support for the forums? It is a free plug-in for the forums, and the actual app has a small fee for the user. As far as I can tell there is no impact on the forums if you aren't using the app to access them. http://www.tapatalk.com
  14. There are as many different ways to base your models as there are models. Its mostly a trial and error thing until you find what works for you. It also depends on what you want your bases to look like. If you are just going to do a basic base with some flock and maybe some rocks or skulls or other doodads here and there, its probably easiest to just stick the model in the slot and call it a day. If you want fancy scenic bases, you have to figure out if you can reach all the details (both on the base and on the model) if you put it together before painting. And you have to decide how you are going to attach the figure to the base.
  15. . . . Just as soon as I contact GW and get my missing piece. In the interest of learning about the product to help better sell it, (and because I like orc characters) I purchased the new Boss Zagstrukk Finecast model. As far as pricing goes, the metal blister for this model was $22. The Finecast box version is $22.50, not that drastic of a price change ($38 for the Finecast Avatar of Kaine? Really?). Inside the box was your standard GW clamshell, with 3 resin sprues, 2 in bags and one just in the shell. The torso and head were broken off the sprue, and so was on of the arms. The sprue that was not in a bag, the rokkit , some tubing, and an empty spot, should have had his right claw-foot-thing. Should have. It doesn't and the piece was not in the clamshell. Off to a great start with the QA as always. As far as the quality of the pieces I do have, it seems good. The torso/head sprue was misaligned about 1/32 of an inch, but that isn't that uncommon, and compared to some of the GW stuff I've had in the past, is actually pretty good. The resin is clean and smooth, few if any air bubbles. Its soft and light, about the same as the Forge World resin. It is flexable, and not brittle, although I haven't done any extreme stress testing on it. Where the pieces where snapped off the sprue, it looks clean and didn't damage the figure. I've picked bits of the mold out of some of the deeper crevices, which seems like would probably be a bad thing for them. Overall, I'd say that if GW ever actually bothers to check what they are packaging, and cleans up their casting process, the Finecast will be excellent for experienced modelers and pretty good for beginners as long as they use some care and don't try to treat it like a metal figure.
  16. I think the reason they dropped those games to "Specialist Games" was because people continued to buy the big games that required hundreds of dollars to start up. If they can keep people paying more, why offer something cheaper? As far as cost goes, the majority of blisters only went up a couple of dollars (usd). Like blisters that were in the 13-14 dollar price bracket are now $15.25, the 16-17 dollar bracket are now $18.25. The increase on the boxes is slightly higher for several models. And there are a few outliers, such as the Avatar, which was previously $27.50 or so, is now $38.50. I have not actually handled the product out of a blister, but comparing the metal to the finecast, I'm not impressed. The sprues and excessive amount of flash are unacceptable, imo. There isn't any more detail on the finecast, and some of the lines are actually crisper on the metals, contrary to GWs claims. Perhaps when we see things made from masters specifically intended for finecast there will be a difference, but I for one won't be holding my breath.
  17. With how fast gremlins die, I don't think using a taxidermist just to dig up corpse counters would be worth it. If you are playing a Som'er list, (which I think other than Pere tomfoolery is the only master you'd be using the Pigapult with) just park the taxidermist within range of Som'er and when the Get Yer Bro engine starts running, you will have plenty of corpse counters.
  18. You can use Calibre (its free) to try and optimize the PDFs for your Kindle, although it doesn't seem to help that much, imo, and then transfer from your PC. You can also transfer PDFs without any software, just plug in the kindle to your computer, and open it up and drop them in. Another option would be to go to your amazon account, make sure your personal email is on the safe list to send things to your Kindle and email the PDFs to your kindle email (usually the email you signed up for Amazon with, replacing the @gmail etc with @kindle.com). If you receive it via Wi-Fi it is free, if you get it via 3g you might get charged. The kindle isn't the best PDF reader, and the Chronicles are very graphics heavy, so I personally wouldn't recommend trying it.
  19. I would count your chickens before they hatch. My local store had a huge following for Confrontation 2.0. When Rackham switched to the PPPs, people stopped playing entirely. They still had their metal models, their 2.0 rulebooks, and everything else, but they just stopped playing. They'd look at other games and bemoan how they missed Confrontation, and when asked why they didn't keep playing, they'd say they didn't like the new plastics, or that nobody wanted to play. Now, I don't think GW is going anywhere anytime soon, but if they did go under, I think their games would go with them.
  20. That is interesting, because when we had customers asking why their forge world models had more blocks of resin in the bag along with unbelievable flash and such than resin used for the actual model, our rep informed us that Forge World had moved its casting to China, and they were still working out the kinks (paraphrased).
  21. That's because Forge World is now mass produced in china, instead of hand poured in some back lot on the GW campus. The shop I work at received the first wave yesterday. But since we aren't even allowed to show customers the boxes until Saturday (which seems silly) I am not going to share my thoughts as I'm not sure if we're allowed to talk about the product and I'd rather my boss not catch hell from GW, I sort of like having a job.
  22. If you don't play WoW, you don't know what a hobby is. I also enjoy getting myself banned from the WoW forums (I'm on my final notice) with the use of non-offensive, non-trolling, only mildly belittling comments, such as "In order to assist you in your self righteous crusade against fun, here are some other names you should report. Have fun!" or "if you find the internet offensive to your delicate sensibilities, perhaps you should avoid using the internet." Another hobby I enjoy is starting to learn to program, and then doing something else, like play WoW. I've got a basic understanding of Python, Lua, C+, a little knowledge of Java, and now I'm going to give Android a go. I'm not sure if Android is its own language, or a bastardized version of something else, or just off the shelf Java, but I'm going to find out.
  23. [ame] [/ame] Also, Oxhorn is hilarious. One of the best WoW Machinama creators out there.

  25. So I got up this afternoon, and was going through my twitter. One of the posts is a retweet, it was a Mighty Mouse avatar, and the original tweeters name started with Svenn... and it turned out to be Svenn from here on the forums. At first I figured it was retweeted by @WyrdGames or @Mr_Tombers_head, but no, it was retweeted by the awesome Ms. @FeliciaDay. I'm not gonna lie, that is pretty awesome. Even the people who follow me don't retweet what I have to say.
