  1. it's a brownish toffee color washed with straight devlan mud.
  2. Thanks, the white's not really a drybrush just layered highlights. These are for a member of our club that's in WI until April.
  3. I think that skirmish games are more popular due a variety of reasons. The first and foremost is that good rulesets have emerged. There have been many games in the past that don't catch on because the rules are clunky or just plain bad. Second the affordability of skirmish games allow you to experiment and find what faction fits you best. Nothing is worse then shelling out a couple hundred dollars to find that the army you've chosen might look cool but you can't win a game to save your life. Only being able to get half or less reselling or trading that stinker of an army is a bummer. Third and most importantly in my opinion is the time investment. Modeling and painting several hundred guys takes so much time that most players never finish their armies before rules change and half of what you spent so much time painting is not longer usable or relevant. Also the amount of time it takes to actually play a game is a huge factor with my play group. To play a multiplayer 40K game will take several hours, and for warmachine it takes even longer due to the nature of the system. With a true skirmish game even with 4-6 players we can wrap it up in less than 2 1/2 hours. For a regular 2-player game I can get 2-4 games in during our regular sessions.
  4. I just finished up painting all the guild crews for a friend of mine. You can see more of the models here.
  5. You can see some pics of my everblight stuff here. For mine I went with a blue-grey skintone with dark brown chitin.
  6. I just finished White Chapel Gods, not a bad read. In the process of reading On Stranger Ttdes by Tim Powers, so far its an excellent read. Although not really a series he seems to stick with similar subject matter.
  7. Just finishing up the Young Nephilim to go with this crew thought I'd share the progress.
  8. So what were the final standings?
  9. DV8 is having trouble accessing the forums and he asked me to post the following: I apologize for not getting to this sooner. Real life interfering with my gaming life. And I hate it when that happens. So here you go guys. Feel free to ask more so there are no grey areas. Would love to have this come off without a hitch. (1) Do the extra Soulstones get used for crew creation, or can I add them to my cache (thus taking it above 8)? You will not be able to take your SS over the normal limit for a scrap. (2) I think you specified earlier, is there a limit on the amount of "Use Soulstone" I can buy for my crew? NO! you can give it to the whole crew if you want, though the original intent was this was the ability to give it to a model on a per game basis. Though it was only recently pointed out to me that this was not in my original post, so if players showing up take issue with this it will be for the day. (3) Is there anything in particular that the local food banks are looking for as donations? Not that I am aware of the people at the food bank I talked to didn’t mention it. Though it is a good question to ask for the one I plan to run in June. (I plan this to be bi-annual) (4) How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? A wood chuck would chuck all the wood if a wood chuck could chuck wood. Then my Nephilim would eat him. (5) Will this be a Choose a Faction or Single List? Bring 1 list, though I am not sure if this will be the standard here in the future I am following the debate and have yet to come down on a side of it. (6) And will there be any cookies this time or should I bake them this time if I come down. Kyle has not yet committed to this, but we can never have too many cookies in a games store.
  10. Love the bases, are those your own sculpt or are they up for sale some where?
  11. Just finished up another Rattler for a friends crew. I really like how the black and red turned out. Originally I tried to work in yellow stripes as well but it got to busy so I eliminated them. You can see more photos here.
  12. Nope, the guy I painted them for supplied them. I believe they are the Dark Age Lava base inserts.
  13. Here's a WIP of the cherub to go with the crew.
  14. I just finished up three mature nephilims and the totem for this crew. More photos here.
  15. One thing, most of the totems can only cast magical extension once. Not that it matters that much you're still moving everything 8" in the direction you want.
  16. I think he'd max out at 14 spiders if he made one every turn and was reactivated by the brass arachnid to do it again. Don't forget that for every three individual spiders you'll want a swarm in case you chose to go Voltron and combine.
  17. I use woodland scenics field grass. Fold a bunch of grass in half and trim it to size, then brush on some super glue and stick it in place. For the flock I mix static grass, course turf, and ground cover in a zip-lock bag, brush the super glue on where you want the grass, stick the model in the bag and once it's covered pull it out and blow really hard to get the excess off. The grass will stand up.
  18. Played against him on my sewer board the other day. Lure, charge with punk zombie he's just another corpse.
  19. Nice report. I wish I could remember more then minor highlights. Note to self next tourney bring camera and notebook.
  20. It's better to take care of things like the draw you deck and graverobbing dogs early in the life span of the game. Unintended combos like that will cause new players untold frustration, better to nip it in the bud now. I for one don't want to see this game devolve into spam lists, and I think the changes are warranted.
  21. You're always safe to use paints designed especially for minis it tends to go on smoothly and thinner then other types of paint. That being said I know how frustrating it can be to pay $3-$4 for a tiny pot of paint. I've had good success with craft paints, it does take some work to get them to a consistency that flows properly. If you choose to go that route you need to pick up matte medium and/or a gel blending medium. Small pots to mix it in also is a good thing to have around. Like I said it takes some work o get them right and if you're just starting out you might be better off to stick with mini paints like Valejo. The art section or your local craft store also has a good selection of brushes available. I prefer 10/0 spotters and some larger flats. Look for coupons in your newspaper or sign up online to get them and save some cash.
  22. Just finished up the Nicodem box set. I really like all the models after painting them. At first I thought the punks were a bit silly but they've grown on me after painting them. You can see more pics here.
  23. I have to second godspeed on the gunslinger. Seamus really needs another source of ranged firepower. The rapid fire and trigger happy can put a serious hurt on somebody.
