  1. Wren: Thanks very much for the suggestion, it's not something I'd actually considered, but is a really good point. I'm not entirely sure how to achieve it on this figure though. Do you think maybe the top green cloak should be darker? If I'm sort of missing the point, could you maybe give me some suggestions on what colours you would have painted it because I totally agree that it lack the wow factor that you get with top models? On another note, still working on some better pics and will post them shortly
  2. Ah right, wasn't aware that was going on. I've only just started posting stuff on cool mini and I don't really go on the forums there because I've been a little too scared of doing it until now, so I guess that it's not surprising that I didn't know about it. As quite a new comer to the hobby I find cool mini a little intimidating so haven't really got involved into the CMON scene yet. Maybe that's something for the future though when I've been painting for a bit longer and I'm a bit better
  3. I've just added some padding to your vote too. Looks like you're ahead at the moment! The voting system is a bit weird though. It hurt my little brain...
  4. Sadly, I didn't get a decent look at this on the day because the cabinet was too crowded: now I see why! Looks awesome, and I for one am glad that you didn't give up painting because it would have deprived the world of this magnificent duel!
  5. Thanks for the comments. I'm glad that you mentioned the dark pics actually because when I first read that I didn't know what you meant, but then I opened up the pic on my work computer (instead of my home laptop) and saw that you were totally right. I think the brightness on my laptop is set wrong, so will try and sort that out. Will also try to get some clearer pics of the freehand. Sorry, my photography is still a bit rubbish Demonherald: Sadly, I didn't get to meet you on the day. Would love to have said hi in person though. We stayed in the Crowne Plaza the night before and didn't see anyone and the golden demon the next day was so busy that it was impossible to spot anyone familiar. Maybe we will bump into each other next year
  6. Hi! Wanted to share with you my LOTR GD UK entry this year. He didn't get past the first cut, sadly, but it'd be great to know what you all think of him. Here he is: http://www.coolminiornot.com/201739
  7. I'll second that, euwww, grose! As for the sculpting, I think it's a promising start, keep us posted!
  8. That's hilarious! Thanks for posting the link!
  9. Well, if you're being blind then so am I because I can't work out the top one. Quite like the half naked chick tho.
  10. Hmm, apologies. I know my photography is bad, but the warrior priest shouldn't appear that blurry. It doesn't look like that on my computer! I think the problem was the file size was too big so the comp automatically shrank it down. Let's try it again... Btw. If anyone fancies voting for my priest of ulric on CMON then the link is here: http://www.coolminiornot.com/201181 Cheers!
  11. Thanks for the comments everyone. As promised here are the pics of the standard bearer and priest of Ulric from my GD regiment. Sorry about the rubbish quality, I'm still trying to work out how to take good photos. Also, if anyone can tell me what they think could be improved on the models then that would be very much appreciated too because i'd love to improve enough to get a finalist next year at GD! Cheers all!
  12. I think the flesh tones and the face are fab. Good job!
  13. Yea, a big well done from me too! I just managed to push through the smelly people to see it and from my 5 foot tall angle of it it looked absolutely amazing! Would love to see a pic so I can see it from an angle that not looking through the bottom of a shelf!
  14. Hi all, I just thought I'd post a pic of one of the Teutogen guardsmen that I painted recently. Entered the regiment into GDUK but it didn't get anywhere sadly :musicus:. I think the standard bearer and warrior priest are better and I'll try to get some pics of them up soon. Just wondered what any of you guys/gals think of him?
  15. Wow, how do you paint that quickly? Do you have any time to sleep? I like the way that your terminators have turned out, they look really nice, especially considering how long it actually took you.
  16. A well deserved winner Rusto! Looks fabulous!
  17. Although I'm not as qualified as some of the fantastic painters here, my suggestion would be to add a little bit of fortress/codex grey to each flesh colour. That way it make the gw flesh tones look slightly less pink. The new washes are quite good for shading as well. The ogryn flesh is particularly good on flesh, and a little bit of the purple wash helps to add some depth. There are also some very good tutorials on CMON that look at flesh: http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/222/page/1 http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/223/page/2 http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/31 Hope that helps!
  18. Thanks for the reply goblyn13, that's really helpful! I've now found new setting that I didn't even know that my camera had!
  19. I think the sorceress is really lovely. I agree with the 'stiffness' of the vampire count. Something about that sculpt just doesn't look quite right to me. Thanks for the post, it's a site I've never heard of and they've got some nice minis.
  20. Hi all, I'm pretty new to the whole mini photography thing. I think that I've got to grips with my camera (mostly), but I'm having some trouble photographing metal. I've started to paint a GW teutogen guard that's mostly metal (I've not ventured into NMM yet) and I would like to put a WIP pic on the forum. The thing is I just can't for the life of me get a photo that actually represents what it looks like in real life. I've got a light box to diffuse the light so that I don't get an obvious shine, but still I can only get a pic that looks really rough and a bit rubbish. The rest of him comes out fine but it's just the metal that I can't seem to represent properly. Does anyone have any hints, tips or suggestions? Cheers!
  21. Hehe, it was crap... Was that an intentional pun?
  22. Yea, I certainly didn't know they existed, so you've helped me out!
