  1. this is why I love these forums!! Ask a little question and ideas and links and tips start flying! Thanks for the help, folks! I've got quite a few modern zombies, so I can try out different suggestions on each one, and show the results as soon as my camera gets out of the shop. I'm also excited for these guys because I bought my first few bottles of what I call my "big boy paints". Some different set of Reaper flesh tones. (up until now I've been using apple barrell and the like) so I'm hoping to se improvement, and I want the bases to look good too.
  2. burnt fried brie? now that does sound stinky...
  3. O.K. before I start in on the awesome Wyrd minis I bought at Gencon, I want to try out some of the stuff I've picked up on some zombies. My vision for this is to have them standing on asphalt. Like cracked and slightly overgrown sectiond of road. Does anyone have any tips for doing street? Looking around, I've seen alot of cobblestone, and alot of brick or tile, but very little roadwork. Becuse I want to make it look cracked or overgrown, I'm thinking I'll have to use one of the recessed slotta circle bases, the ones that are all the rage with the kids these days, and some green stuff or putty of some sort. But other than that, I'm kind of at a loss. I'm not above experementing and seeing what I can come up with, but if anyone has tips, then I'll gladly take a shove in the right direction.
  4. I am loving that undertaker mini. I assume you did the symbol freehand, nice work. Who makes him? I would love to take a crack at him. (If I ever get through the stuff I have sitting backed up on my table now, that is.)
  5. Ah-HA!! The mechanic off the game is that you actually hae to roll dice and move minis in order to actually write the rules of the game. The first person to sucsessfully complete a campagin (finish a whole rule book) will send their results to Nathan and Eric, who will then coat the winner in molten lead and dump their body in a nearby but seculded swamp. All expansion rules will depend on the storage space of the swamp and fluctuations in the lead market.
  6. also on a side note, Big porps again to evryone who did the Wyrd Speed painting. i am again creeped out by the mini's group pic, which I keep referring to a "Pre-school of the damned." Nathan, any chance that the game will include a war band of small creepy children led by Hamlin?
  7. Wren, Your diorma was great! I loved that one an the 40's crimebuster scene on the docks. Hinton and Duende, thanks again for the pics. The camera I borrowed for Gencon couldn't take pics of minis for poop, so I appriciate the chance to see all of those cool entries again.
  8. Duende, Thanks for the slideshow! You got some cool pics of minis that I hadn't seen before, and will keep an eye out for in the future. Plus the special coverage of the "Wyrd Minis Grabass 2007 Game". I shudder to think of what the grand prize might have been....
  9. Heh. I'm 6' 8". I guess that's 1.83 meters for those of you not in the U.S.
  10. I think the armor AND the skirt on the second one look cool. I like the fade from blue to red because it makes him look as though he's been ankle deep in gore all day. Maybe if you were to bloody up his feet a bit too, the look would come across better? And I'm going to thrid or fourth or whatever the call for some purples/ blues on the corpse.
  11. Does this mean we won't be getting motorcycle gang security for the Wyrd Forums Rock'N'Roll HoDown?
  12. Funny, I managed to dodge all of the picture taking at Gencon, but got caught in the GeekSquad coverage on Friday morning, at the speed paint. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-oktuZveiA]YouTube - Geek Squad at Gen Con 2007 - Day 2, Part 1[/ame] I'm the bald guy about 40 seconds in. As far as being large and in charge, I don't think anyone has any worries, as I'm willing to bet I'm among the heavest here on the forum, if not the top.
  13. Oddly enough, I too left a box of my painted minis unguarded, and when I returned to the spot, not only were they still there, someone had put in a couple of tickiets to a beginner's painting class.... in all seriousness though, I'm sorry for the theft. having seen your stuff, I would say to keep an eye on e-bay and any upcoming pinting contests you hear about. Someone low enough to steal your hard work might be low enough to try to submit it as their own.
  14. what kind of world doesn't have these sort of conversations on a daily basis? Keping on topic though, Mortimer, the Gravedigger is my fav. There's just so much character packed into that guy. I've got a ton of various minis (most of them Wyrd) from Gencon, and I'm saving mortimer for last, hoping I'll have built up enough skill to do him justice by the time I get to him.
  15. Hang on.... I'm not supposed to be licking my brushes? On another note, thanks for the map. Now I know where to lay my Rube Goldberg device so I can catch the staff unawares and scrf up unpotected minis.....
  16. I agree with SteveB that if you go unpainted, a nice grey primer really shows off the mini. EricJ: The reason your sales went up was because I was running aound the dealer hall screaming "Look at these cool ghosts I got at the Wyrd Minis/Crunch Waffle booth! they have the coolest stuff!" To be honest, the one thing that intimidates me about buying Wyrd minis, is not being sure what to do with the characters. They are very cool sculpts, and the personalities are vibrant and really show through inthe mini, but I'm just not sure what to do with them. Approaching the hobby as a gamer who is getting into painting, it is easier for me to assess a generic troop type and decided how I can make it fit my style, than it is to see such an obviously cool pre-made character and say "how can I tweek that?" This, again, is one of my weird hang ups (like my issues with basing) and it is coming from the gamer side of the hobby, and Wyrd seems to be more into the painter side of things, but it is input none the less.
  17. I still have the first few issues of the Visionaries Comic books laying around somewhere.
  18. Can't help but love the little parascope sticking up out of the dirt.
  19. For other "web masters" out there, I think EricJ's 20 question thread would make a pretty neat addition to any painter's site, I know I am going to copy/paste my answers to the "about me" page of my upcoming site.
  20. You site looks nice. I've been prepping a freewebs space for my site (whenever my camera finally gets here so I can take pics of my stuff) so I guess that makes us neighbors!
  21. Wow, I'm rather new to the serious side of painting, so alot of my answers won't really amount to much.
  22. Nifty site! I already sent an e-mail to the 'giun, so I thought I would post here and encourage others to go see what he has up!! so...um..... GO SEE HIS STUFF!
  23. Well, I've gone ahead and used the WS turff as my grass, and I think it looks o.k. I had to break it up until it was super small (it comes out of the bag kind of clumpy) but since there no other kind of grass on the base to compare it with, it looks looks enough like grass to do the job. I'll post a pic or two as soon as I get my new digital camera. On a positive note, large clumps of this turf stuff would make awesome moss.
  24. I was just going to throw in some pinat job jokes like everyone else, but i want to say that what you've done is amazing. It is easy tolaugh and kid, but come on people, it look like tux put in a lot of time and effort on this to make it look nice, not to mention money.... do you know how much green stuff it took to sculpt that room?!?!
  25. Welcome Stasia! You and I have a lot in common. My wife says I act like a 9 year old, AND I'm pretty new to this forum too. I'm sure your dad has already told you, but everyone here is super friendly and helpful, so my advice would be to not be shy, and go ahead and ask people questions...they love to help people out and chat about their hobby!
