  1. The only problem I can see if that Pistol Whip isn't really worth it. You've only got Critical Strike on the Paired Pistols, so a Cb 6 :rams on a 1/1/2 weapon with a range of 1 isn't doing anything for you. You've got Cb 6 Paired Pistols with Critical Strike (no suit) at 2/3/5, 10:ranged plus Gunfighter. While "Down for the Count" is a nice trigger, without a :masks in the stat, that's a huge gamble for me to be taking when I could get a much more reliable outcome from just shooting them with my pistols from another inch away. Didn't really get into the spells. reading quickly at work, and then needed to type all of that before it left my mind.
  2. Yep, poison's nasty, and Zoraida put her teeth back in.

    Peacekeeper?

Love it. quirky, but fun. Definitely something I'm eagerly awaiting the release of.
  4. While it is a cool name, I'm sure the Guild has more than just the Ortegas out there kicking Neverborn ass. You can't secure your Soulstone supply if there are all sorts of nasty beasties mucking about whenever you turn your back. It's not like Justice and Sonnia are the only Guild personnel that handle their particular specialties.
  5. Ready to rumble. Painting entry's been ready since Gen Con. Forecast shows no snow. Game on! And the best part is, I don't have to run this one.
  6. I'm there, dude! And I'm bringing a friend. :sonnia
  7. Look at the thread about what makes Som'er Teeth competitive. The Gremlins are actually a "top tier" crew. They just require you to actually look at things as a whole before you build your crew, and then actually keep playing that way throughout the game. Pigs and Piglets do the heavy lifting. Bayou Gremlins love Move + Focus. Skeeters and Teeth can make a stink cloud like no other. The gremlins DO NOT need models from other factions, or even other Outcasts. Seriously. A Brawl with Zoraida and Teeth is just plain mean. And I'm sure the gremlins are only going to get sillier and more deadly in the future. Nathan and Eric love them too much not to give them fun new toys.
  8. yeah, a turtle list like that won't help you with it comes to Strategies, and if you're just counting on Schemes to win, your opponent is probably going to get at least one of theirs, plus a Strategy. From a personal perspective, playing against lists like that just plain sucks. not because it's difficult to win again, but because it's boring as hell.
  9. Bunny!!! Awesome stuff. Saw Seamus on your blog. Good to see the Copy Cat, too.

Your best bet is the Malifaux Matters section. Obviously the models have you hooked, so that should get you a good glimpse into the factions, what models work well together within the factions, etc. One big thing you'll need to know about this game is that you can just throw your dice right out of the window. You won't be needing them here. Everything in malifaux revolves around your Fate Deck (each player has his own deck). These is a fixed deck that is essentially the same as a deck of playing cards. The values and the suits are the important parts. NerdElemental has also put together this wonderful series to help people out. Noob PRIMER: Fiction and Fluff background Noob PRIMER: Basics of the CARD mechanic Noob PRIMER: Faction overview Noob PRIMER: Malifaux for the Warmachine gamer! Noob PRIMER: Combat example walkthrough Noob PRIMER: Magic and spell casting duels Feel free to ask questions in the Malifaux Matters section, as that's the best place to get your Malifaux answers. Everyone is pretty friendly, and the people with the fancy badges under their names are here to help.
  11. OK, I'm going to try to change my weekend plans for this one, dude. If I can make it happen, I'll be there. It's a single figure contest, but are we limited to one entry per person? ;-)
  12. I hate to sidetrack a good post, but Silurids are usually disgusting in melee. "Pack-tivation" gets them all going together, and Instinctual lets them Leap and Blood Frenzy in the same activation. As long as you hit with the Claws, you get a free bite. Free attacks are never bad, especially when you've got a few catfish men of doom around to gang up on someone with them. Marcus usually brings a few along with him.
  13. I'm waiting for my set of 4 custom 18" boards to show up for small demos and combinined for a 3x3. WS is completely right there. You don't hire your crew until after you've got Strategies and Schemes chosen. You've got all the flexibility in the world to pick a crew that works best for you to achieve your goals, deny your opponent's, or both. You're not even tied into a certain faction unless you've picked a faction-specific Scheme. It's an odd concept at first, and when you've only got a limited model selection it's not as easily done, but it really helps to break more than a few pre-game stalemates.
  14. leave off a few pigs for a couple more gremlins. Move, Focus a shot, take your wound, then you can still get split for "Git Yer Bro." You've now got a Gremlin with 1 wound left. if he dies, you get a card. The new Gremlin with 2 wounds is slow, but you can still get 2 actions with Reckless. And since Reckless specifically states that you get hurt if you use more than 2 actions, you're still in the clear. Just wait. I'm sure Eric and Nathan aren't done with these guys yet.
  15. Pandora definitely plays to a more cerebral style. Rasputina takes some thought, as does proper Ramos play. The twins are tons of fun, but they're no more tactical than Sonnia and Co. Zoraida offers a lot of flexibility when you actually get beyond Conduit.
  16. Nathan, make that deck a tournament prize, and make it the plasticized cards. Pricey, but they'd make great prizes. And I'm sure there would be a few of us who wouldn't mind seeing them.
  17. I'm betting flame Burst is going to get the ranged icon. Just sayin'
  18. Sonnia's Df of 4 is a touch low, but her sword and Inferno keeps her alive well enough. You shouldn't worry too much about that until later in the game. The rest of your models should present more tempting targets, or block LOS. That said, the Ortegas are just fun. Even when you're not using the alpha strike, you have a lot of options. Loco is always fun, and he's a serious threat. Play him aggressively, and you'll do fine. Sometimes it's fun to just hit Santiago in the back to get him pissed off. Sonnia's been my favorite master since the playtesting days, but if you're not feeling her, go for some Ortega action. Or proxy a few games with Ortegas and then make your decision.
  19. After seeing the Pandora crew in the flesh compared to the pictures, I can't wait to see the others.
  20. Hey! I've assembled and painted my Karakuri, and it wasn't nearly that difficult. The arms went together just fine, and I left the legs on the tab until the torso/thighs were fully attached. That's actually a model that could have been so much worse to assemble. Other than Samael's hat, I haven't seen anything too crazy as far as mold lines go. And when it comes to flash, these are some of the cleanest models I've come across. Still, you've got handy it to Nathan and co. The sculpts have gotten much more gaming friendly AND easier to assemble as Wyrd's grown. Then again, Taelor's still as much of a paint in the ass to assemble as she was when I bought my first one in 2007 (I own 3 now).
  21. This is correct. Reactivate gives you another activation, but it does not change the core activation mechanic.
  22. Wait a second! We stopped blaming Kel?!?!?!?! Agreed, 6 has them costing too much for what they offer. 4 is too low. 5 is the Goldilocks spot in the middle. Sure, some models feel like 4.8, 5.2, or 5.6, but the costs aren't broken down into fractions of a stone. Marcus is a good example here, and so is Som'er Teeth. Marcus can hire Beasts from any faction at no additional cost. Right now, that's not adding a lot (although what it adds is great). What if there are Beasts in the future of the other factions? What if Eric is already planning on a large hunting dog for the Guild? Maybe some sort of werewolf for Res? Those kinds of things would make Marcus' ability even more valuable. Som'er Teeth can only hire Gremlins, Pigs, and Vermin. Well, what happens if new Gremlins show up with amazing abilities and aren't so fragile? Steamborg is not the entire name of that model, and I'm betting it's for a reason. It's a Steamborg Executioner Class. What if there's a Steamborg Maintainence Class? Steamborg Suppression Class? Steamborg Construction Class? None of those would necessarily affect Joss, but they might buff each other. What if there was another Master with some specific abilities tied into Steamborgs specifically (properly referenced, of course)? Maybe the Executioner Class would end up on the under-costed side of the scale? Bishop, in my opinion, is amazing. I can fully understand why he costs as much as he does to hire him as a mercenary. He's a Swiss army knife of melee! Would you argue that the Convict Gunslinger, even with the additional stone in his cost as a mercenary, is overpriced? Underpriced? Just right? I know players who have all of these opinions. Of course, the fact that Eric and the development team actively pay attention to the feedback they're getting is awesome. Malifaux seems to have caught on better than Nathan, Eric, or anyone else expected. At least they listen and respond a bit quicker than some of the other games I've run across (and no, I'm not talking who you might think I am).
  23. If you're not using the Companion (Family), the Ortegas aren't any worse than the other Guild crews. For ease of learning, I recommend the following: :sonnia :perdita :justice :rasputina :viktoria1 :viktoria2
