  1. According to some records, the emperor Qin Shi Huang did infact ingest small amounts of mercury to prolong his life, but probably died due to overdose of it. Whether the physicians that time deliberately wanted to poison him remains a myth.
  2. I almost never plan any of my colour schemes, which could be bad. I paint on impulse. Whatever colour comes to my mind I just slap it on. Which is why I painted 3 versions of Bregan posted in another thread before I settled for the 3rd. However I often mix my paints even though I am using Vallejo, which has a wider spectrum of colours compared to some others.
  3. I'll go thru that list later to see if there's anything that interest me.
  4. Some good points there. The shoulder areas and the pole indeed could use some more attention and the shield on the banner is also the area I'm most satisfied with. Thanks for the pointers and I'm glad you got some inspiration in the process too.
  5. From what I know, the molds are coated with a layer of powder of some kind during casting so as to facilitate release. This stuff stays on the model which is why when you get your models they appear white and powdery. This layer of powder will definitely have some effect on the paintjob if not removed. Just me 2 cents.
  6. Thanks for the advices. I went ahead with blue /purple since everyone seems to agree on that colour. Here's another wip with the corpse painted up.
  7. I'm currently painting up Bregan of the apostates of darkness from Rackham. This is my 3rd attempt the previous two ended up in the thinner pot. I have more or less settled on the 3rd color scheme. I have also shifted the directional lighting from top (1st) to right (2nd & 3rd). Now I'm abit stuck as to what colour to use for that dead body strapped onto him. I'm thinking something purplish but can't be sure. So can someone please advice me on that and also tell me if any of the previous attempts were better that the 3rd. I'm still able to make some changes if it isn't too drastic. Many thanks!
  8. You better get that sorted out by the gynae. Back on topic I'm currently on black.
  9. Thanks for looking and the feedbacks. Malebolgia, I think you meant that the edges of the stripes are not straight? Its because the cloth is sculpted with folds and the camera catches it as distorted. @Eric - dun look at my tiles, look at the mini
  10. @Wyrdmother - My wife has the boy's name on the back of her calf too. I'm not too much into names but yours is nicely done. I'll get my wife to see this for inspiration. @Hinton & callumrice - looking forward to the pics.
  11. I'll do it in point form but it should be good enough for you to get started. 1. Study the mini. Note where the mold lines/flash are. 2. Start removing the mold lines/flash. 3. You might find this too troublesome but some artist claims that this is what makes the paintjob smoother later on. Using a very fine grit sandpaper (1000) smooth out every possible parts reachable on the mini. For hard to reach places you can glue a small piece to a matchstick to access those areas. 4. Wash the mini under warm water and give it a good scrub with dish washing liquid. 5. Undercoat and check again for mold lines etc. 6. Slap on the paint!
  12. This is very impressive IMO but I'm sure you know by now that the GW judges prefers bright/striking styles of painting. This is painted in a more earthy/realistic tone which could be the reason why it didn't get a place in top. Only nitpick I have with this are the chains which seem a little too clean.
  13. Great stuff and I think the photo doesn't do it much justice. Congrats on the win!
  14. Looks like the folks already covered all areas that you need to improve on, and in great details. We should see some improvements in your next mini then. Happy painting.
  15. I uploaded this one on photobucket for your convenience Anders. Welcome all your valuable critics with thanks.
  16. Its really Wyrd to hear that from you Nathan, since your the reason behind everyone's addition to the arcade here hehe. Anyway I've completed the Harbinger and also the Cadwe undertaker. Pics up on my blog if anyone wants a peek.
  17. I think Rackham will continue to come out with some good models even after switching to plastic. The Abbey Prime is a very good example. Paintjob wise I still think the prepainted ones are sucky, with no eyes etc. I still prefer good old metal minis over plastics. Painting a plastic model is like drinking wine out of a plastic cup.
  18. Really great video presentation for beginners. Alot of effort to get something like this done so kudos to you Tracy.
  19. Looking forward to see what ink the Wyrd mother has. Judging on the 20 hrs you mentioned Nathan, I'm guessing it should be something rather complex. Is it gonna be your 1st? If so I suggest you try something less ambitious. I say ambitious because I had friends who wanted something big only to back out after less than 1 minute under the needle.

  21. Sorry for the misleading title. As you know I'm Asian and not aware of certain terms that you guys use. I work in a tannery for exotic skins. I do have to meet clients and attend conventions. I do not want my clients to have a feeling that they are dealing with a mafia or just someone who is not so reliable. From where I lived, tattoos are often associated with secret societies, unlike nowadays where people view it as a form of art.
  22. Just like to know if anyone here is into tattoos as well. Ever since I did my 1st I was sorta addicted to it and now I have 3 on my back and front of my body. I would have one on my arm or leg but my work forbids me to do so.
