  1. That elbow - yikes! That'll take some fixing =(
  2. *sigh* doesn't look impossible to overcome, though
  3. Hey guys - I have to admit I only spent about 5-6 hours actually painting my IP3 round 2 entry on a friday afternoon and saturday morning. However, I felt very inspired with her and the model is pretty simple, as was my color scheme. Prep + photographing/editing probably brings it up to 8 hours total (she was very challenging to photograph!!). But I've had figures that take me days and days - like when I painted the Parkinson #3 box last fall, I think those each took a week and a half or more each, although admittedly I probably only put in 4 or 5 hours a day working on them, some days less.. Most of the time I don't feel like an exceptionally fast painter, the last two IP entries have been something of a fluke - themes that really inspired me with models I already wanted to paint near to hand.. /ali
  4. good to see 300 finally got them moving on this stuff.. Although I think only the war altar and guards so far is new.. /ali
  5. Yep, these are about 3 years too late for the Wargods craze at my LGS.
  6. between renting a car, gas, and parking, I wonder if we may as well just take a taxi. Maybe we should figure out how to take the bus. /ali
  7. We're trying to decide whether to stay near the airport and drive into the con or pay the outrageous amounts for something connected to the convention center. Does anyone know how much we might expect to pay for parking near the convention center and how easy it would be to get a spot? /ali
  8. ... If I turned off the computer. ... If I didn't have to have a full time job so I could go to conventions. ... If I didn't have two adorable kittens who need to play with me. ... If I didn't have such a tiny little span of attention. ... If we played less D&D. ... If they'd stop releasing Magnum PI on DVD. ... If they'd release more good fantasy and sci-fi on audiobook.
  9. Congrats and well deserved, Cindy! /ali
  10. I really dig that yellowygreen flesh =) It's great! And the base is very convincing, and super cool /ali
  11. I like some pulp figures stuff, but usually i only really want 1 or 2 models in a pack and can't really justify spending the money on a full pack if I just want one =( I hate the mini-pack business scheme =(. /ali
  12. I would be able to pitch in a measly 20 dollars to see Nathan buy and produce this model =) /ali
  13. I played this game at a local con once and had alot of fun! I've wanted to play it at both the GenCon's i've attended but could never quite fit it into my schedule.. I'm not sure why we've never bothered to pick it up.. Probably because we rarely play board games, even ones we like.. (glares at the OotS game gathering dust). /ali
  14. Bah! Who'd ruin a perfectly good cake by jumping out of it? Let me eat cake, I say! And let me have cake and eat it, too.. /ali
  15. Horray! Supervike is bringing cake! Thanks everyone *scuff* /ali
  16. I wanted the blood to look really fresh, so I left it bright. I probably could have at least darkened the edges a bit.. with regards to the cloak - I mixed RMS Dark Elf Skin with RMS Pearl White, then added RMS Dark Elf Highlight & more Pearl White to highlight it, and eventually just added more Pearl White until it was pure Pearl White for final highlights. I also did a bit of shading in the deeper crevices with very thinned RMS red liner.
  17. Hi all, Here's the finished version of my Necromancer. The bookstand was way overpowering all green, so it's been changed so only the faces are green and glowy. I had a rough time with pictures. I hate my camera. Thanks for looking. If you're curious, there are more angles on my webpage - just follow the bannerlink below. /ali
  18. Wow! What is your recipe for that greenish gold? /ali
  19. the current bases are integral, and I haven't got time to wait for Gen's base to arrive (and as this is a piece for Reaper, I'd be a bit leary of using another manufacturer's base so prominently), and there's no way I'm sawing the bases off after I started painting.. /ali
  20. Because when you're a girl, being evil is sexy! Any way, reaper does have that coven of witches, they're pretty ugly.. I already put a decal with words on the book pages, and I don't think I can get it off without doing serious damage to the book.. =( I guess I need to find an "obviously evil" symbol that's also "obviously undead-related" and maybe put it along the bottom edge of her robe? On the floor around her & the book? I was thinking if I position her right, I might be able to do a drip of blood from her dagger to the book, that would be cool. /ali
  21. Ritual - except for the bookstand, which has a number of howling faces in it (which you could see if I hadn't taken such bad pictures), there is not alot about this miniature that suggests "necromancer" to me, either. I intend for her eyes to be pitch black (with a bit of light reflection), I'll put a bit of blood on her dagger, and of course, her cloak is the tanned hide of a silver dragon (or supposed to be). Her earings are supposed to be bone, and there's a bit of bone-looking stuff over her right hip that i'll paint appropriately boney. Any suggestions for other ways I could make her seem more necromancery? I think the flesh needs to stay dark if I'm going to leave the dress white.. /ali
  22. I need to consult the hive mind concerning some color choices on a model I'm currently working on. The pictures aren't great, but at this point I mostly need color advice anyway, and the colors came out fairly true to the model (although the bookstand is way overexposed). Some notes: The dress will be highlighted up to white, and the flesh will be highlighted with golden flesh from RMS - it will be similar in color to the poledancer I painted last month. The cloak and bookstand are the only finished parts. These will be together on a base, with the female a base's height above the book, like a step or dias, and her left foot will be pointing approximately towards the center of the bookstand. Here's what I'm after for advice: 1. Highlighting her hair - I'm inclined to highlight it with brown, but leave it primarily black. Should I choose a more exotic & contrasty color, such as green, instead? 2. What color should I do the fiddly bits at her waist, and her buttons? 3. The back of the cloak is painted with a mix of regular and metallic paints. I was thinking of painting the corners of the book, her jewelry, and her dagger with NMM, but will it look too strange to mix the two? I'm thinking of trying OSL, from the bookstand onto her - I figured it would mostly color her from the waist down, but I have no idea how to go about it. Also, someone else has told me I should do the bookstand blue if I want to do OSL because it will make a better color on the model than the light green. I choose green for the bookstand because a quick scan with google images showed me alot of necromancers summoning spirits that were green.. Any advice or opinion on this issue would also be appreciated. Thanks, /ali
