Dio 8
A new tale from the Wyrdlands.
It is the fourth month of 1933. My name is April. After the war the environment was left barren. I was one of the lucky girls that was born after the war. Exposed to radiation and toxic rains most children had severe or fatal malformations. Born with a high sensitivity to radiation dust and a malformed right leg, I was forced to wear a respirator mask and to be carried by my father. The conditions took their toll on my parents and they departed the physical world when I was 12. Left alone I found comfort in my dolls and teddies that I collected over the next several years. My life changed when I found Mr. Giggles. Mr. Giggles was kind and gentle. He agreed to carry me on his large back and protect me against the dangers of this world. We found security in a section of an abandoned farm on the edge of the town of May. With Mr. Giggles's help we repaired a water refining boiler and began to revitalize the soil. When the rains came we had to be prudent as prolonged direct exposure could be harmful (as Mr. Giggles had learned). We seeded the soil using seeds given to me by my mother that they were special seeds from her favorite flowers. Now, every year I sell these flowers to travellers to and from May in the hopes that one day we will collect enough scrip to travel far away from here.
