iamthefly
Hi, My devlan mud is nearly all gone (one tub actually rotted after i spilled it and slooshed it back into the pot, it has separated into a green and a white layer?! The regular cheesy-ass smell is now nearly unbearable) Whats Devlan mud called now and has anyone found another 'fairy dust' wash/product that does what GW dm does? Cheers Edited October 9, 2012 by iamthefly adding cheesy-ass comment
omnivision6
Here you go: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2012/05/devlan-mud-and-badab-black-wash.html
*Jack*
armypainter "Strong tone" wash is repackaged old devlan mud. Cheap too. The new GW version is not quite the same, and not as nice IMO.
brainscan
im kinda lucky i stockpiled before it went off sale
Dorian
he new "equivalent" is agrax earthshade. Its a little different in viscosity(I find it tends to be a bit thicker) but just using less will work.
HaggisMcMutton
thanks for the advice. I was wondering the same thing about how I should go about replacing my devlan mud.
wolfoman117
since i´ve discovered vallejo´s smoke i don´t use nothing more, it´s panacea XD
Guy in Suit
I find Vallejo smoke a bit too dark. I use it on metallics for a rust effect - but nothing compares to thinned down devlan mud on skin for me. May have to look up Army Painter when my supply runs dry. Normski
Agrax Earth shade is ok! it is a bit thicker than Devlan Mud i just do a 1-1 mix with water and hey presto back in the game! but for skin i prefer a base of bleached bone(ushabti bone) and ogryn flesh!(reikland flesh) works fine

decker_cky
Devlan mud had a little subtle green to it. Agrax earthshade does not.
wolfoman117
the vallejo´s smoke depends how many water you put on it to get it darker or not. i like it a lot, specially to paint red, like blood angels XD (red base, smoke and red lights that you like, it works great XD)
CannonFodder
I've been using the new citadel Null Oil as my replacement, I find its ever so slightly lighter than the Devlan Mud. As for the army painter series. I'm not 100% sure but I Think I know a guy who did his warmahorde army with it and its a fairly think layer. I could be wrong on the product he uses. He probably used the army painter dips (thick stuff, similar to wood stain). The army painter washes are pretty much indistinguishable from GW's old babab black and devlan mud washes, aside from it being in production, coming from a dropper with more in it, and being cheaper. Fantasyfreak
Agrathax Earthshade and Nuln Oil (or whatever they're called) are pants. Nothing like the properties or even the same colours as Devlin or Badab, thinner too. The new 'Base' paints are nothing like the old foundation paints either, nowhere near as much pigment in them, it makes me a sad panda. I'm gonna have to check these army painter washes out, I too thought people were refering to the dips, thanks for the recommendation guys
ICleadpeople
The secret weapon washes are what I use now. Way better IMO.
