Twisted Metal
Hey guys. Im in the process of basing my Zoraida crew and I really want them to go on swamp bases. Has anyone found and pre-cast resin ones? If not what would be the best way to go about making them from scratch. I have made bases before just nothing quite this involved and requiring water effects.
Kad Baz
This article from Hand Cannon has a good walk through for swamp bases: http://handcannononline.com/blog/2011/06/01/the-impossible-road-to-etc-15pt-milestone/ Good luck, hope to see pictures when you are done! Todd
Check the links in this thread out. I found quite a few really nice swamp bases while putting the list together. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?27962-Manufacturers-of-Scenic-Bases&highlight=bases+manufacturers
morella
I have tried looking for this extensively. So far, the only ones I have found were at Kerr & King http://www.kerrandking.co.uk/25mm_scale/kk123.html and http://www.kerrandking.co.uk/25mm_scale/kk126.html I also found these, which you could probably do a water effect over to submerge them a little http://www.back2base-ix.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=36 If you find more suitable ones, post back, as I'd love to see others for gremlins (I am no good at sculpting/basing so prefer to buy resin bases). Omenbringer
I have never been able to find a precast swamp base that ended up looking realistic when done. The good news is that it is very easy to create your own. The Handcanon link is very good at showing how to build them from scratch (the only thing I might add is the use of actual plant roots to enhance the realism). Another decent toot is from the TerrainThralls website (it shows essentially the same thing but in a slightly different manner). If you go the scratch build route (and like I said earlier it is the most realistic), then be sure to include ample water effects to really drive home the swamp look. Products that I recommend are Woodland Scenics Realistic Water (a very easy premixed product that takes 24 hours to solifidify, dries clear and is great for shallow water 1/8" - 1/4") and Envirotex Lite (a more complicated product due to the mixing requirement that is best for "deep" water 1/4" + features). Dumb Luck
Model Display Products, a company based locally here in Cardiff have swamp bases in production. The guy just waiting for them to get painted before they go on sale. I already have the 60+ models of my Gremlin gang based on them and they look lovely! ICleadpeople
Check these out. You can add wet effect to make them look like they are ankle deep in the muck. http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=79_33_72
Ironmonger
The Secret Weapon are the ones I have, they're pretty brilliant. I'll post a few pics of my Gremlins to show. As an aside, ALL their bases are great looking and functional.
