Two card questions

Two quick questions about the cards:

1) What's the difference between Rare 1 and Unique? For example, Ice Golem is Rare 1 but Snowstorm is Unique, but they both end up with the same result.

2) What's the deal behind the colored attributes on the cards? It doesn't appear to be the highest attribute (LCB has both a 6 and a 5 colored, though they're both Ca) while others don't appear to have a colored attribute at all (ie Stitched Together). Does it have any meaning behind it?

Well, for example, some abilities allow you to summon or create non unique models. So Nicodem, for example, may summon any non unique undead in the game. That allows him to summon a Rogue Necromancy, Rare 1, but not Madam Sybelle, Unique.

As for the colours, they're quick references to which stats have associated triggers.

Also note that in a Brawl, Rare numbers are doubled, while Unique is still Unique.

From the fluff side of things, Unique characters represent actual persons in Malifaux story - the heroes of the fiction you can read about in the Malifaux books.

Rare minions are still generic minions. Just powerful and of limited availability (mostly for balance reasons).
