Adran
So the official stance is Simple Duels that are not Resist Duels never have a defender, is that right? You've mistyped the trigger. It doesn't make gramatical sense as written I would guess the official answer is that a simple duel isn't an attack unless otherwise stated
WEiRD sKeTCH
So the official stance is Simple Duels that are not Resist Duels never have a defender, is that right? Page 50 of the Rules Manual: • A model casting a Spell with a or icon in its Rg, or one that requires a Resist Duel, is casting an attack Spell. • Spells with a or icon in their Rg are melee and ranged attack Spells respectively and follow the targeting rules for those types of attacks. Modifiers that affect melee or ranged attacks affect these Spells as well. Attacks have Attackers and Defenders. Including Spells. In the situation described, the Trigger is activated and generates a new Simple Duel of Wp vs. Target # that has no Attacker and no Defender. Immune to Influence does not come in to play. Wolfgar
I typed it just how they wrote it.
Wolfgar
In the situation described, the Trigger is activated and generates a new Simple Duel of Wp vs. Target # that has no Attacker and no Defender. Immune to Influence does not come in to play. Right. The question is it not an attack because it prompts a simple duel or is it not an attack because it's a Trigger and Triggers aren't listed among the types of attacks. (I swear I'm not trying to be difficult.) Edited December 19, 2011 by Wolfgar
WEiRD sKeTCH
Right. The question is it not an attack because it prompts a simple duel or is it not an attack because it's a Trigger and Triggers aren't listed among the types of attacks. (I swear I'm not trying to be difficult.) If a Trigger generates an Attack, then the Attacker and Defender rules apply. If a Trigger generates a Simple Duel, then there is no Attacker or Defender. Wolfgar
A nice clean ruling that makes sense with what's printed. Now that's something everyone can enjoy.
Q'iq'el
If a Trigger generates an Attack, then the Attacker and Defender rules apply. If a Trigger generates a Simple Duel, then there is no Attacker or Defender. So, technically speaking, an Attack lasts till you determine if it was successful or not? Whatever comes later as an effect of the attack (simple duel, damage flip, Morale Test etc. etc.) is not considered part of the Attacking action and doesn't have Attacker and Defender anymore (unless it generates a new attack, but then it is resolved separately anyway)? Did I get the mechanic right?
