Kaane Feinwong
You know what? I was thinking about these movies today, and they inspired me. Rocky Horror Picture Show and Repo: The Genetic Opera. Excellent choices! I was thinking about a Dr. McMourning mod after Rocky Horror just the other day. Put some pearls on'em and paint his smock like a dress, mmmm. Did think about Repo but that's a good one as well. I still have the soundtrack on my phone. Cassarus
I think this will be really inspiring once done. And just like EricJ I'm a big fan of City of Lost Children http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1729475697/monty-and-the-runaway-furnace
Kaane Feinwong
Undead or Alive is hilarious and very campy but it could get you in the right mindset. Just saw this on free play on Netflix. It's next on my line-up.
Dark Alleycat
Its a fun way to pass two hours of time lol. Also Repo the genetic opera would be an Amazing place to start for a crew theme. I don't know which crew would work best for it though. Maybe multiple crews built around a cohesive theme...hmm..Seamus as the Graverobber,The Ortega family as the father and his two sons and daughter.McMourning as the night surgeon,Blind Mag as Bete noir or in a real twist,Jack Daw. The daughter as Molly perhaps.
Kaane Feinwong
It's "a few dollars more" as a Texan I would espect you tuh now that sun. As for "classic westerns": Oh the shame of it! For recompense, I shall watch it till my eyes bleed.
aka_hazard
when trying to explain to non-gamers the setting for Malifaux I always cite 'Wild, Wild West' and 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'
Jonas Albrecht
Whenever I think of Perdita Ortega's gunstyle, I picture Ben Wade in the final moments of the remake of 3:10 to Yuma. Fast, controlled, lethal. For skirmishes, I like Gangs of New York, Open Range, Warrior's Way (this has the best multi-faction skirmish on film), and Sukiyaki Western Django. xxXhayzelXxx
Would love to see some "Little Mermaid" models that would be some sugary goodness right there....
Scott
All the previously listed movies are great choices (from the ones I've seen). As soon as I saw this thread my mind just jumped to Gangs of New York, I love that movie and the skirmish fights in it! I have not watched wild wild west in a long time so I might have to do that later today. Another movie that I'd really consider would be The Good, The Bad, and The Weird. It's a story of a manchurian bounty hunter looking for treasure. Great movie if you enjoy some foreign movies. Although it's not a movie Deadwood has been what has been really inspiring me for some of the western/showgirl crews. Totally reminds me of Colette's crew, plus it's a great show! Er1k
Although it's not a movie Deadwood has been what has been really inspiring me for some of the western/showgirl crews. Totally reminds me of Colette's crew, plus it's a great show! Agreed Deadwood is an amazing show. Have all 3 seasons on DVD, as I'm off work with man flu I might watch an episode or two tomorrow. Watched the original True Grit today having seen the new version at the weekend, really enjoyed both versions
Doctor Amos
As much as I hate to mention the movie, Brother's Grimm might be a good place to look, as well.
Scott
I haven't seen true grit yet, But i'm about 2/3rds through the first season of deadwood (This is about the 6th time I watched it). The dvd pack I have has a map of the town so I'm quite tempted to attempt making a board of it or at least part of the town. How was the new true grit, vs the old one? Doctor Amos
How do you compare John Wayne to anything? Answer; you do not. You evaluate the New Grit on its own merits (it stays true to the book, plays smoothly enough), but you cannot compare it to Wayne else you invite folly. Katcher
OK, a short trip to Czech movie culture First is a Whisky song from Lemonde Joe - Horse opera, which is parodical comedy at western movies [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtAVCVMKpD0]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtAVCVMKpD0[/ame] Another wonderful movies is Mysterious Castle at Carpathians, which is very steampunkish, but quite old. It´s english subbed on youtube. [ame= [/ame] Edited : Sorry, wrong thread
alienated one
I know its a kid movie, but I always think of Kirai and her spirits when I watch Spirited Away.
eturns
Spirited away is great, I used totoro as the basis for teddy
Ratty
Spirited away is great, I used totoro as the basis for teddy I do love Ghibli's work and I would not say Spirited away is a kids movie, the director has said he makes his films to be watched by all the family. ofc Totoro isn't in Spirited away but he is very cuddly. Dark Alleycat
at least the guy they picked to play rooster cogburn looks the part. Old as hell, and meaner then hell. the original rooster cogburn is about 1/3 of the inspiration for my gunslinger's personality...the rest is all Josey Wales. ducat
A couple of slighty more off the wall options, but both damn good films, and give a couple of good sets - "Paint Your Wagon" starring Lee marvin and Clint Eastwood. Quite a cool western town backdrop here - No Name City. "Zulu" starring Stanley Baker and Micheal Caine. The Rourkes Drift outpost would make a fantastic place for a game. Sleeper00
Reading through the list I saw a lot of good movies listed there. I play Neverborn and nothing gets me in the mood to paint them like Pan's Labrynth and Hellboy II. The angle/demon in Hellboy to with the eyes on its wings, and the Eyeball monster eating in Pan's Labrynth are getting me all ready to paint Coppelis. Doctor Amos
I loved Zulu, although it inspires me for... other games. I have painted a few figures now after Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hellraiser. Cookies (non-poisoned) to anyone who can guess what figures they are. Kaane Feinwong
The new movie Sucker Punch has a weird Malifaux feel to it. I'm looking forward to it coming out. Here is Trailer #2 if you haven't seen it yet. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrIiYSdEe4E&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
