  2. Well it looks like I got confused. never noticed there's a cheaper delivery option. Admittedly it was difficult to find since paypal never gave me any options and its USPS which I thought was US only. Hopefully the ladies at wyrd can change my shipping to that, so I can get my cwazy cwazy wabbits after all.
  3. There's an option to jump straight to paypal, but for some reason paypal didn't include shipping first time, had the exchage rate come out around £52, not £96. Shipping was fedex international economy. Guess I just got too excited =/
  4. So am I right in saying that if all I want is the War Wabbit, I need to pay almost twice the price in shipping alone, and the only other way to get the model is buying it off ebay at an inflated price? I rarely buy direct from wyrd because I have a local store I support, but if these are my only options then that's really a sucker punch to my enthusiasm. I do recall that wyrd were eating shipping costs a lot in the past, and that it was unsustainable, but surely there's another way, like having convention only models at Salute or buying them through a distributer in UK/Europe.
  5. Woah... I went straight to paypal, but the purchase went through without me even knowing how much delivery cost or what options there were (it even gave me the exchange rate and total minus delivery). Wasn't till I got the invoice I find out it's $68! That's $2 away from what I spent. Looks like I'll need to look into a refund, no way I'm paying that. I thought it was only books that shot up shipping.
  6. These ingredients are much more to my liking =] Think I'm going to explore the slavery angle, recently finished Bioshock Infinite* and got some more inspiration to draw from. Might make this an origin story for one of my new characters. *Especially like this great tune -
  7. Hope I'm not too late. Rather lost inpsiration and forgot about it. But I was rather determined to finish it, so I did. I'll be sure to post feedback on the rest shortly, not that it'll be of any immediate help anyway. http://wyrd-games.net/community/topic/106467-iron-quill-the-duel-an-improbable-poet/
  8. I am an improbable poet; my sword is my quill and my deeds are my stanza. In a holy garden I practice my art. I do this day and night, for one simple reason; my life depends on it. Yet it is a peaceful prison I have chosen to condemn myself too. The breeze is ever shifting but the cherry blossoms kiss my face all the same. The green sheet I compose on is wide and open, yet secluded. There are no walls. In this slice of Eden I practice. I practice for my master, so that I may kill him. When I am ready, he comes, day or night. For hours we duel in steel verses, but every time he writes the last line and I am left to practice in solitude once more. This routine has now carried on for so long that my failure has turned from pathos to bathos. Cherry blossoms spell "cabbage" on the ground. I never give up, for doing so would leave my body in eternal servitude to my master. Inspiration comes from everywhere, as the world is as much a muse as it is a canvas. The old styles of tiger, crane and dragon have long been imprinted on my mind. While my master needs no sword to beat me, my quill is my crutch. Where it goes words dart across the air, but without the ink of my foe they are swiftly erased. I often think of the past, and those thoughts guide my hand. My sword writes a tragic story of a man born into slavery. Only his name saved him from death, but during his many travels he lost even that. A slave he had been born, and so a slave it seemed he would die. The master comes and goes, the slave remains. A bird chirps "carrot". Rain falls, and the last few cherry blossoms fly freely into the mud. The clouds grow darker and despair leaves my words illegible. My mind falls deeper into the past, but it feels like I'm falling backwards, trying desperately to find something to hold onto. The master comes and goes, his last words written in blood. Never look back. The wind cries "potato". The rain and pain do not relent, but neither does my practice. I write with ferocity, this time not of the past, but the future yet unwritten. My dragon does not smoulder in regret, but ignites my desire, while my tiger stalks dreams like they were prey. My eyes see the garden melt into pulp, but my mind sees my master fold. I'm ready. The master comes. For the first time our swords are like rhymes, and our duel becomes a duet. Our tempo increases, dragon, crane, tiger, past, present, future, our quills thirst and then suddenly the master is no more. His bloods seeps into the pages and words form, words to free a slave. I say- "Gggrllfcklr..." My eyes flash open and meet the dark eyes of a man. With a whelp he flies backwards in surprise, letting me get a better look of him. He's an ugly brute. "Oh you sure got me Cabbage, I thought you were dead, I did!" My eyes dart across the scene before me. This is not my garden. The room is dank and cold, likely a basement, with a lamp creaking back and forth from the ceiling. Nothing decorates the room bar a table with some wire and a tool bag. "S'pose it's hard to tell if you're dead Potato, I mean you don't know when a vegetable's dead till it's gone rotten, right?" My mind's a blank page, I struggle to find a bookmark of sorts. "What you thinking about Cabbage? C'mon, you can tell me, I might be the last person you see. S'pose that makes me like a priest or something." He gives a wheezing cackle. "If I'm a priest then you're a Freikorpsman. Bet you'd love to come at me, wouldn't you Cabbage?" I give up trying to look back, I focus my gaze on the man. All I know is he must die. "If I'd had my way you'd been dumped in the river by now. Or maybe we aught to give you to a cook-" He burst into more laughter. Hate builds in me. I grit my teeth. He doesn't know it, but I'm already free. "What a waste of flesh and blood, there just ain't no point in you, none at all." He walks over to the bag of tools and takes out a chisel. "Least a cabbage feeds people. You, you just leave less air for the rest o' us." The man swaggers closer to me, overconfident in blissful ignorance. He draws so close I can see the veins popping on his forehead, the darkness behind his eyes. Sensation begins to overwhelm me, words unwritten pump through my veins and my muscles shake off their shackles. I fear he'll notice, but he's too close to my face to see my limps twitch and tense. "Are you judging me with those eyes?" Anger seems to build in him too. "You haven't felt pain so far, wonder if you'd feel me chisel out your eyes." I glare at him, saliva dripping from my trembling lips. "What's that, you trying to say something Onion Lips?" H presses his ear to my mouth. "I- I- I-" Is all I can manage. "What's that? I can't hear you? C'mon, speak up" He cups his left hand to his ear. My left hand grabs his right hand. He nearly jumps out his skin with shock but my other hand grabs his throat. I spit the last of my drool in his face, and words form from my onion lips. "I- Am- An im-prob-able poet." My hold on his hand is like a vice as I twist his wrist. He fights me as the chisel turns towards him. "My- Sword is my quill-" His face is red, his veins near bursting as he tries to struggle. My grip on his throat is pinning him as he struggles to breathe. Saliva froths in his mouth, and all he manages is one last insult. The chisel impales his lungs and blood drools down from gasping swollen lips that tremble to a stillness. As he goes limp I whisper "and my deeds are my stanza." I knock him over to the side like an inkwell. I stand up. A wave of dizziness washes over me as I adjust to the new altitude. Numerous sensations threaten to overwhelm me, but the words in my blood give me strength. I walk, rather than stumble, towards the table. The bag contains various tools of a carpenter or the like, nothing interesting. I take the wire without really thinking. My hand trembles over the door knob. Looking at my large hands, the hands of a killer, it dawns on me I don't even remember my face. Don't look back. My hand turns the knob and I walk out the room. A dingy corridor leads to stairs that open out into a modest house. No one is at home, but there are signs that a group was here recently. I don't hang around, I look for the back door and escape into the night... and the half dozen people watching the house. I don't see myself walking out of this one. Three robed figures stand like sentinels, their masks expressionless. Two seem to glow with an aura, both carrying a tome under one arm. The final member stands out among her companions. On first glance you might mistake her for some skinny, wounded miner. On closer inspection her mechanical left leg and right arm are far superior in design to the union's foot soldiers. Yet before one could make such an assumption, they would be immediately drawn to her face. There's charm in there, even if her features are a little boyish, but what captivates is that great big toothy grin, with two parts casual insolence and defiant optimism. She smiles at me. "Took you longer than usual." She japes. "Pardon?" I ask, caught unawares. The girl gestures to the robed figures. "Better fetch the Master his kit, he clearly ain't gonna find it himself." The figures stiffly march off to a stagecoach on the other side of the street. "I'm sorry, I-" I'm interrupted by the girl. "Best not. I'll give you the short version, cos last time I gave you the long version you took advantage and made me look a right plum." She strolled towards me, her leg sounding like a switchblade folding back and forth. "You're the Master, the boss man, and we're your humble servants." She bowed theatrically, the gesture more seriously copied by the two other men. "Problem is, you've got issues, like your body playing dead and your mind turning into a blank page every now and then." "I don't-" She interrupted me again, just as the robed figures returned with what looked like some kind of harness. "Don't worry, cos despite your issues, you're dead smart and pretty mean in a fight when you want to be, and even when you are playing plum, we're here to look after you." "If you here to look after me, why did you not come for me, why-" Interrupted again. "Wait? Cos you told us to of course. I swear sometimes you let yourself get caught just so you can practice." "Who-" And again. "Nabbed you? A local gang with ties to some plum calling himself the Mole King. In fact I can hear the rest of them coming now." The sounds of hooves on cobbled stones could be heard in the distance. Without asking, the robed figures begin securing me to the exo-skeleton. "You know you usually don't like it when I-" This time I interrupt her. "Interrupt me? Yes, Yvette, it is rather grinding." I finish the last buckle on the harness myself, my mind on a written page once more. "Roderick, Marshall, hope you did your homework on the properties of fire." The two men open their tomes like archers drawing their bow. "You wanna make the "improbable poet" speech?" Yvette grins at me and bittersweet memories return come flooding back. "No, but I don't think our quills will be short of ink tonight." I grin back at her. "The Masters back boys." She calls out. I'm back, I think, but for how long? _____________________ 1749 words. Used all ingredients. Feedback greatly appreciated, don't hold back.
  9. Crikey, it's been awhile. Didn't want to put my hat in the ring till I had something, but I stayed up late last night and wrote for the first time in ages. Got about 800 words so far and, while I hate it, I'll be sure to keep at it and get it posted. More importantly though, I hope to have the time to read everyone else's stories and provide feedback.
  10. We'll see if I can survive the trial by fire. Have setup a blog and made my first post (with an appropiate cliffhanger): http://legowargamer.tumblr.com/post/109237193383/month-zero-decisions-part-one
  11. First time I looked at this thread, I saw the title and thought "oh dear", clicked on the link, first image I saw was Nekima and I took her as some cheap demon chick by an other company, closed the tab and left the thread. Only now do I realise that there was all sorts of Malifaux goodness in there. Still not sold on Nekima, but loving the Gremlins. The Bayou Boss set totally sold their faction to me, the quality of those models is immense. Lots to look forward to =]
  12. Yeah, I was hoping to see this at Salute/Adepticon, but now I'm guessing Gencon. What with all the delays that have been going on, I wouldn't be surprised if PWU has been affected too. I don't mind the wait, I just hope that when it does hit it comes with a lot more support and coverage.
  13. Edit: Just noticed them on the homepage, need to look there more often (ninja'd by Wyrd) =] So... anybody seen these =P Source: http://www.beastsofwar.com/malifaux/release-time-malifaux/

  15. Loving the bunny =] Ma's crew is looking good, as does Sammy LaCroix. Less keen on the releases, bit disappointing. As for Johana, I'm a bit skeptical on how likely my "local" is going to get her. Got an order for Fuhatsu with them, so hoping for the best. No luck with the easter hunt though, spent some time looking through each page for a link, but nae joy. If someone could post a spoiler I'd appreciate it =]
  16. To be fair I've never had anything but good dealings with them, and while they've burned a lot of bridges I think they're starting to build new ones. Plus I'll be waiting for Arena Rex a lot longer than anything from MM, but that's kickstarter for you ;-) My personal beef is with CMON. Unlike MM I have suffered at their hand, but on top of that there are lots of great new companies being sabotaged by having CMON as a distributer. If Studio McVey make one change moving forward, I hope it's separating themselves from CMON.
  17. @Lord of Dust: Arena Rex is easily going to be the highlight of my year :-P RRG should be posting another update soon, so hopefully we get an idea how long we have left to wait. MIKH sure does take his time, but the results of his work reduce me to tears of overwhelming joy :-) Currently I'm planning on spending my next two paychecks on Darklands by Mierce Miniatures. Picked up some trolls during the first kickstarter, and they're the best models I've seen. Didn't back their second KS so now I'm playing catch up, building a host for Norse, Khthone, Angelcynn and possibly more. Expensive, but so worth it :-D That said, my promotion became official today, so from here on out I should be able to afford my resin addiction. Whether I'll have time to enjoy my hobby is another matter entirety ;-)
  18. I've been tempted by the models for Bushido, so it's nice to hear good things about the game. I also have a starter for Eden, but the quality of the cards (more objective/resource cards than stat cards) was quite poor. That was awhile ago now though, I think everything's improved now that they have a proper rulebook. Dropzone Commander Can I afford it? - Over time. The initial cost is higher than normal, while upkeep is better being spread out. The starters are double the cost compared to other games (£60+ instead of £30+), but we are talking resin, and they do form a good basis for both learning the game and starting an army. The core starter is better value, with two armies (in plastic) plus terrain, but since I collect PHR it wasn't really applicable to me. To get a proper army, you do need to add a few more units. The main downside is buying enough dropships for your units, but it's easy to work out what you want/need and spread the cost. Time-wise it shouldn't take too long... unless you want to magnetize your models to the dropships, but it's worth it =] Do I like the miniatures? - I do. Despite being 10mm scale, the models are bigger than I thought and the sculpt quality is great, captured perfectly in resin. In other words, you get what you pay for. My only gripe is perhaps a lack of variety within factions, but then I'm the type of person who thinks all cars, tanks and giant mech walkers look the same Is the game fun? - Only played a little bit, but it is great fun. I definitely like the reliance on dropships (which does ease the pain of adding their cost to my units), as it adds a lot of tension when and objective requires your slow units to get to one objective then race to a second while anti-air bombard your speedy dropships. I haven't used the command deck yet, but it looks like it will stop things from going stale. Do other people play? - I only bought into it because a few at my club play it. It certainly has taken off like few other 10mm-15mm scale games have. Alkemy Can I afford it? - That's a tricky one. Table Top Miniatures has a clearance sale on Alkemy, with starter sets down from $35 to $9. I spent over $200 to ensure I had everything I wanted. It can be tricky to find everything, but all that matters is the box sets from Kraken Miniatures as anything by Studio 38 is easier to get a hold of. You don't need to spend a lot, but it's a case of how far you want to go with every opportunity to get your hands on these amazing models. Though one of the brilliant things is that you never, ever need to buy the same thing twice (unless you have some other reason). Do I like the miniatures? - Hell yeah I do. One of the best ranges out there imo. The models aren't too flashy, but they have character and the quality is great, even in the plastics. I just love the aesthetic of each faction, and how consistent everything is. Is the game fun? - The game has a few great mechanics, especially when it comes to combat (and of course the games main theme - alkemy). It has a great flow to it, and keeps you invested (once your model is reduced to enough wounds you have to move onto the blood red dice you really do feel their pain =P) Do other people play? - Simple answer, nope. Hardly anyone seems to have heard of it, let alone play it. It's no surprise considering it's mostly being kept alive by a hardcore French crowd and a company that produces miniatures for it once in a blue moon. That said, it deserves better, and I think if there's any game that deserves a Kickstarter resurrection it's this one. Darklands Can I afford it? - Not really... Doesn't stop me trying =p Considering Mierce Miniatures' great policy with their Kickstarters (i.e. you can buy stuff at Kickstarter price up until the model is ready to ship, plus pledge for released models at discount during the KS), you'd have to be mad to buy their stuff at full price. Now even with that discount, an infantry unit is costing you £28-£52, and a monstrous unit is costing you £80. The good news is you don't need many models, meaning you can actually have an army for around £100+ rather than the £400+ you'll probably end up paying because the models are too gorgeous =] Do I like the miniatures? - My love of Alkemy models is one of personal preference, but Darklands' models are just flat out amazing even if they aren't to someone's personal taste. There are a few misses, but they're mostly limited to one realm which still has lots of lovely stuff. But no one does monsters quite like Mierce, and unlike PP's and GW's big models, the big beasts of Darklands are a core part of the games design and aesthetic (Darklands is to PP/GW what Monster Hunter is to... er.. Dawn of War?) Is the game fun? - I don't have much experience of the game, mainly since it's still not quite finished. But also because I found the quickstarter rules to be quite hard to get into (due to format/chapter order more than anything). I think Darklands is one of those games that is unapologetically complicated, with a lot of depth and replayability. I just might be best learning the rules from videos than by reading Do other people play it? - Nope, not really. I'm buying more than enough to supply everything for my club, but I imagine the cost will scare a lot of people away. Up til now it's mostly attracted painters, but I think we'll soon see MM target gamers as the rulebook's release draws nearer. It does seem easier to justify the cost if there's a great game attached, and Darklands is looking pretty good so far.
