Jabberwocky
Here is a quick one I did up over the course of an evening. It will be used in a diorama that I am working on. I was going for a weathered granite look. Suggestions on improvement? I am toying with adding a touch of either flock in some of the crevices or perhaps some greenstuff/wire for some vines creeping up the pillar. Nathan Caroland
Oooh, nicely done and definitly has that aged granite look. I do like the idea of doing a small bit of mold or fungus in crevises like you see on something out in the woods or an area that has been grown over in recent years. supervike
That does look great. I'm not sure if I would touch anything, but sometimes I noticed a purple wash really adds some color depth and retains that 'granite' feel. gi6ers
Perhaps some very small patches of lichen, this also might come in handy: Pic I did something like this a while ago and used a toothbrush to flick on some very pale watery greys and then drew the paint towards the bottom of the statue before the paint dried. Hinton
It definitely has an aged granite look and feel to it. Some flocking might be okay, but, IMO, only sparingly. Great work, JW.
cdukino
looking good, very realistic. I wouldn't do much to it anymore... less is more in this case
Jabberwocky
In my never-ending quest to Keep Messing With Minis I Thought I Have Completed Campaign or KMWMITIHCC, here is some vegetation on the Pillar of Good. I added some flock in a few spots and the creeping vine is far from being done--it was an idea I had to create the scale I wanted. It is some thin floral wire (not sure of the gauge) with some medium sized ballast glued to it. I'll have to be very judicious with it, so as not to cover the mini too much, but I like the effect. Yea or nay?
supervike
Its a good idea, but it doesn't look as realistic as the statue does..... I'll have to say Nay!
cdukino
I have to say Nay for the same reason. The idea is nice but it doesn't match the realistic look of the statue.
Hinton
Nay as well. If it was creeping more, say up her side or kind of spreading out across the front, then it might look ok. Does that make any sense? I think that the small green bits over the statue are good and add to it, but the curling ivy like that seems to take away from it. vincegamer
Lichen effects are good, but vine bad. Think about how a vine grows on stone. How does it attach? How does it actually grow? That vine just looks wrapped around, not grown there.
Jabberwocky
Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll probably scrap the vine. Speaking only in terms of scale, do you think it is too big? The paint job just was basecoated (and rather poorly at that) and the way it was growing was unnatural, but speaking strictly in terms of scale--what do you think? Hinton
In terms of scale, I think it looked okay.
