matty1001
You would probably be a pretty cool head of maths. Ours at Benfield Mr. Fisher (Tom Fisher IIRC) had written some of the major cirriculum maths books and was stuck far to high up his own arse. Ourf other maths teacher looked like shrek, one looked like goldmember and the other could do nothing but rubiks cube in about 30seconds. Useless they were. EldinTux
Just to show I can be a geeky as the next mathematician I can quote pi to 21 decimal places
callumrice
Maybe not a good idea to tell a maths teacher but I sat higher maths and failed it 2 years running! Nice. Who needs pi anyway... thats what a calulators for right?..

callumrice
True, s been a while since I had a maths teacher though!
Ritual
Mmmm... maths! I've got a master in physics so I've studied maths for 1,5 years at uni. It's quite fun, really! I had a really good maths teacher at uni. He was a bloody genious! He could scribble down the most advanced proofs on the black board just out of memory and he could look at a proof and see if it was correct (just look at it, not read through it... pretty much like we can look at a word and instantly see if it's misspelled without going through all the letters). BUT, he sucked at mental aritmetics. He simply couldn't add numbers!

Thryth
Totally unrelated, but... Is everyone being funny with the word "Maths," or is there a regional dialect thing going on here? Thanks!
callumrice
Dont think its regional, Anders is from Sweden, Eldintux from England, Matt from England and myself from Scotland. Maths is Mathematics, shortened.
EldinTux
And it's the best subject you ever took

Thryth
Dont think its regional, Anders is from Sweden, Eldintux from England, Matt from England and myself from Scotland. Maths is Mathematics, shortened. Thanks for the answer. Mmmm. Maybe the region is everything outside of the US (NY?)? If you use the term "Maths" around here, you are going to get some funny looks. Just plain "Math" is the term I've always heard around here. Thanks again.
EldinTux
Yep I think thats a US thing - they say math in the movies but in Europe we say maths - whatever you call it I'm starting the first lesson tomorrow at 9:00am. I thought we'd start with third order differential equations, don't want to make it too hard, then go on to prove Thermat's Last Theorem
matty1001
Dont think its regional, Anders is from Sweden, Eldintux from England, Matt from England and myself from Scotland. matty1001
I really like maths, I like the order of it. 2+2 will always be 4 it can never change (except for that odd equation where A changes from 1 to 2 (or similar)) Im thinking about doing a few years after my design degree. Which will be a complete shift of focus.
