EricJ
Hello all, So I have a project I intend to start for an upcoming GD, and I need a little help since I don't have myself any hirst art moulds and I think I need to construct myself a nice looking wall with them. So my question is if anyone out there with some of these could help me out? I need something looks like a castle-ish front. With some details but not overly so, maybe a couple arches or something... It's just thoughts now, but I am trying to avoid having to drop a hefty sum on new moulds that I would only use for this one project (in the forseeable future). I'm more than willing to pay for the time/supplies, and anyone who helps I'd keep well informed on the project and send preview photos before it'd hit the public following entering it into a GD. Anyone?
Malebolgia
Contact Patrick...he did an excellent job with the Hirstarts stuff for his Privateer Press Grand Master Painting Competition entry. He should be able to help you out I guess EDIT There are also several retailers that sell blocks seperately: http://stores.ebay.com/White-Knight-Studios http://stores.castlekits.com/StoreFront.bok Cheers! Duende
Have you checked out the terrian section at TheWarStore? Like THIS section? :peep:
EricJ
Have you checked out the terrian section at TheWarStore? Like THIS section? :peep: hmmm, that first one actually might be PERFECT for what I have in mind...might have to build a door in the doorway is all, not too hard
Malebolgia
Don't forget that they are wood (balsa I believe) so they might need some work to look like real stone.
LavronYor
Eric, someone on Ebay sells bags of Hirst stuff already cast I think for less than $20. http://cgi.ebay.com/Ruined-Tower-Building-Kit-Hirst-Arts-Terrain_W0QQitemZ180030596159QQihZ008QQcategoryZ7389QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Here is an example. And I can say that it would take around 20 castings to do this, which means about three weeks work. Hope this helps. Again, it was really great meeting you and Nathan at GenCon. Nathan Caroland
Admit it Michael, we were complete putzes'.
Sergeant_Crunch
I have some molds, but can barely find time to paint lately let alone cast anything.
EricJ
well, you can admit Nathan was a putz, I of course was the one adding class to the wyrd booth Still trying to figure out what to do for this, I might be breaking down and getting some moulds so I can experiment. (then expect theads on the best way to use them, lol)
LavronYor
I saw plenty of Putzes, but I wouldn't count you two in the list. I can warn you Eric that those molds can eat up some time and when you get one or two blocks that don't fill in, it can be very annoying. Still, you can use bad blocks in bases for other models. Good luck.
lauth81
I found the hirst arts moulds (and the blocks) quite easy to manage. If you use the proper plaster (I use dental plaster) one casting takes no more than 2 hours (the blocks still have to dry further for about a day). EricJ
where does one find dental plaster?
lauth81
EricJ, try google and find an online supply store for dentists. (Take a look at the instructions pages at hirstarts.com first to find the proper types of dental plaster to use). Here in Germany, I have the luxury of an rpg/mini online store that sells dental plaster in 1 kilogram increments. Costs about 3 Euros a kilogram (that should be around 3,50 $)
Mclimbin
Oh, man, those pre-cast Hirst Arts kits are a great idea. I want one!
