solkan
To spell it out.... "You're Drunk. Go Home" is an 'After succeeding' trigger because it does not list a timing. That is to say, there are five specific timing words/phrases used in triggers to specify when they get resolved. If none of those five words/phrases are present at the beginning of the trigger, you resolve it as if it has the words "After succeeding". The timing words are going to be the first words after the name of the trigger and any italic words (the special restrictions and/or cost of the trigger), if they're present. So, for 'You're Drunk, Go Home', the trigger effects happen if the Brewmaster succeeds in the duel, and as a defensive trigger it can only be declared when the Brewmaster is on the defensive side of an opposed duel. The effect will be resolved in the 'after the action is completed' step, but since the attacker has failed and the Brewmaster succeeding, there's probably not much else competing for simultaneous effects for that step. Squeal has the magic words "After resolving", so it gets resolved in the 'After the action is compete' step, but the defender doesn't need to succeed (or the attacker to fail) for the effect to be resolved. Step 5 The action effects specified by the action itself, modified by any 'when resolving' triggers that just change the effect. If the attacker had an 'When resolving' trigger that added new effects, they'd resolve now. If the defender had an 'When resolving' trigger that added new effects, they resolve now. (It's possible that no one actually has a defensive 'when resolving' trigger....) 'After the action is complete' a.k.a. 'After Step 5' effects Attacker's 'After the action is complete' effects Defender's 'After the action is complete' effects. So Squeal and 'You're Drunk, Go Home' both happen in this part. Resolve any actions that were generated so far I think in practice * 'You're Drunk, Go Home' is something that happens in addition to the Brewmaster successfully defending against an attack. * Squeal is something that you use to your advantage after weathering the current attack. If you've got a high enough card, you may have defended against the current attack, but if you survive you'll move to a better position. 1
