Concealment questions

Erik1978

Question

Yan Lo with his ASH upgrade gives: "friendly models within :aura3 have concealment."

So even if you are within 1" of Yan Lo, if it's a non-:melee attack action, you get :-flipflip?

In the same game, another question came up, the Symbols of authority are concealing and impassable. So two models in btb with the same marker, one model attacks the other with a non-:melee attack action, does that also get :-flipflip? LoS lines go through the marker, and you are not inside it, which means the penalty comes into play?

Yes and yes. In both case the model has concealment, so you have the :-flip. In the case of the symbol, you can draw a sight line through the marker, so they gain Concealment.

The first part is absolutely right. There's a defined difference between Concealment and Concealing. The latter grants the former under certain circumstances, but the former can be applied independent of the latter (as in the example, by Ash Ascendant).

Not sure the second part is, unless they're on opposite sides of the marker (not clear in the initial post) and therefore not within 1". But if they ARE within an inch (ie, not on opposite sides of the marker), but LOS still passes through the marker, then no, Concealment wouldn't be applied.

A model can ignore up to 1" of Concealing terrain only if it is inside of the terrain. Since the strategy marker is also impassible so a model can never step in it, hence Concealment will always applied.

Good point.

Gonna have to remember that, as I am pretty sure I've discounted Concealment (ie, a model outside Concealing terrain, targeting a model inside), because they were within an inch. Is a weird technicality. But one that's pretty clear, if I'd RTFM.
