So, a question arose due to wording of this upgrade.

It gives an ability, follow the flames: after a friendly Witch Hunter ends its activation, another within 12" and LoS activates as a chain activation.

Does this mean within 12/LoS of Sonnia as an ability owner or within 12/LoS of activated Witch Hunter?

So the ability is on Sonnia, and I think we have to default to implying 'of this model' for the range and line of sight.

Yeah, that does sound like you need to be within 12" and LoS of Sonnia.

I have been playing it as within 12" and Los of the witch hunter that activated

Chain activation usually needs to be linked with previously activated model, hence the confusion.

I guess this should also fall under the rule of only one chain activation in a row. So you would not be able to companion off of an brutal effigy into another then use Follow the flames. Since Sonnia has the skill I would think it has to be within 12 of her and LOS. I don't think the witch hunter that first activates would have to be within 12 and LOS though, just the one doing the chain activation.

If I had to take a guess i would assume it was meant to work closer to normal chain activations but that doesn't seem to be how it was worded so it would need faq.

The part about not being able to chain more than two activations is in the base rules so you need to have express permissio to break that rule chich tvis upgrade does not.

As much as that would be a more convenient interpretation, as far as I can tell LOS and range for abilities and actions defaults to being from the model with the ability or action.
