Starting Out Malifaux and TT

Hey so yet an another which cew to start with post. I've read through the background and now looking to start a crew.

I have Misaki, Yan-lo, and MacCabe-Nightmare edition so no wastrels but guild Marshals. I also have Mr Greaves, Shadow Emissary, TT archers and Izamu.

So first which crew would you recommend starting with, to learn Malifaux. And also where to expand, I was looking at the TT Brothers, Samurai and the new Terracotta warriors, as I like the look of them and i read that these could be useful. Also I know i should get 1 or 2 more ancestorss if Im going to play with Yan-Lo, and Guild Hounds for MacCabe.

I also know its more about playing a faction than a master however I dont plan on getting Mei or Lynch as I never liked their visual.

Thanks for any answer

Misaki would be the easiest to start with. No intricate synergies or heavy reliance on positioning. Then McCabe would be a good bet and isn't too difficult either, and finally Yan who is very easy to play wrong.

For new purchases I wouldn't go for the Samurai. Even the Terracotta Warriors I'm not 100% on to start with. In general I'd get the TTB and maybe the Shadow Effigy. Then for McCabe I'd go for an high SS minion (probably Serpent - Joro's are expensive), Yin for Yan and for Misaki... Eh. The Lone Swordsman maybe? Or Yin. Yin works in a lot of crews really.

I also think Misaki is a pretty good fit for starting with. Her Torakage are fast and they can do a little bit of everything. Malifaux is a game of specialists, but a generalist model is nice when you're learning the ropes. Once you've become comfortable with Misaki, you can move onto other masters, while being able to come back to her for strategies where you need your master to be a mobile, accurate source of damage.

Mr Graves is a good all-rounder and can help get Misaki where she needs to be. I read his card the other day when I was up against him and was amazed by how much he does for his ss cost. I think he's definitely a viable choice and would be a nice addition as you learn the game.

Perhaps start with her boxset, Mr Graves and a Thunder Archer for a few games and see how you go.

You don't need the arsenal decks - they only have the stat and upgrade cards for models, but you get stat and upgrade cards in the boxes anyway, they are mostly for people who played in first edition to get new cards for their old models. You might want the generalist decks because the upgrades that come in those you can't get elsewhere, but it is also rules legal to use photocopies or printouts from the rulebooks instead, which may be cheaper if you already have those.

Personally I'd suggest starting with McCabe. Misaki can be quite unforgiving, while McCabe has some more ranged options and the ability to stay safe and still be very effective. He's also a great generalist so you shouldn't feel at a disadvantage from only knowing one master to start. He can be a little bit complex though so it depends on how much gaming experience you have and how well you think you can pick up the rules.
