  1. So I am selling this models to another player. I have all the cards and upgrades just want to make sure I am handing on all of them. Is there a resource somewhere that will list the different upgrade sets. Basically what comes out of the generalist upgrade boxes and what comes with the model boxes.
  2. So I pick up a mini lot which had a Guild models in it. So I already posted in on eBay because I have no intention on playing Guild. I have since seen posts of people referring to the model limited edition and charging alot more for the model then I am expecting to receive. How can I tell if it is limited edition? If it is I have posted the link to the auction incase your interested. http://m.ebay.ca/itm/Malifaux-Santana-Ortega-/172566214541?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE My loss Your gain
  3. @tomjoad I completely agree with you. If any multi facetted game (RPGs, CCGs, Table Top) was to listen to their players and make changes accordingly said games would be in constant flux. Consistency to maintain previously material is important. Any TT player knows that TT Brother are grossly under priced If there is an expectation to level the game that would include Archers to come down then TT Brothers should go up. Take the good with the bad. And keep the material consistent.
  4. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Malifaux under new creative management? Hence why Errata happened in the first place instead of continuing to implement Upgrade cards? If it happens, great! Call me a sceptical but I think they are going to address other issues of balance before this perticlar concern
  5. I would suggest going by a players collection size. A new player is likely to have a crew box and maybe an additional box or two. So play along with that. Limit your choices to models from crew box with one or two additional models. And if they only have a crew box lower the SS cost of the game. Out performing a new player with happen regardless. As mentioned before maybe don't lay on them as hard as you could. What I suggest NOT doing is out investing them. If they enjoy the game they will invest at which point you can turn up the heat. Until then leave your Emissaries and other Monsters in your case and play with basics.
  6. I did look up the 2017 errata and they did change the SS cost of one minion. The Guardian. Though he did also get a buff.
  7. @Nikodemus I will extend my thought as to why I don't believe they will errata the card. It isn't only their station. Of all the errata that was done Jan 2017 how many were SS cost changes? None to my knowledge, maybe I should look. Being over priced for their abilities is does not necessarily effect Malifaux gravely. I believe that is a model is getting used less it is the least of Wyrd's concerns. They have already tried to remedy part of cost issues with a 0cost upgrade "Blot the Sky" without real effect. If they reduce the cost while letting this upgrade persist they will have to either. A ) Account for the upgrade and increase the cost. Likely 6ss and still not to great effect that I would start using them. B ) Remove the upgrade from the game and lower the cost to 5ss which would be optimal though again maybe worth playing but likely only situationally. C) Lower the cost to 5ss and keep the upgrade. At which point I feel you could use the upgrade to an advantage. That is my thoughts I am curious what you think.
  8. So all my fears have been confirmed. I seem to have all the same concerns as @Rathnard. Too expensive to field when compared to alternatives. No good defensive abilities when compared to alternatives. And no Mi attack option. Considering that they are a minion model I doubt they will ever consider an erata. Even if it was only lowering Thier cost to 5ss Damn right though about being a beautiful sculpt
  9. I have yet to add TT Archers to my collection and I doubt I ever will. The pros don't seem to out weigh the cons. Personal opinions aside the TT Archers have been coming up in threads lately as suggested models. Is there something I am missing? I currently use the Katanaka Snipers to good effects. Explain to me the benefits of TT Archers. Please. Thanks
  10. Ten Thunder Brothers and Katanaka Snipers
  11. So I quickly read the campaign rules before responding to your post. First I don't understand what you mean by demo game. I assuming you have a small set of minis from a demo you played? So your trying to decide what TT crew box to buy for a campaign that will cover all bases and not require alot of additional purchases. Keep in mind I don't know what models,if any, you already have; I will try to use model you suggested you liked; if you want to keep the cost down I'm going to focus on box crews. A good box crew requires a stand out Henchmen to lead your crew for the first half of the campaign. A leader with good syengry to other crew models and decent minions in the box. Personally I think Yan Lo is the furthered to from that mark. Especially considering his crew requires out of crew box purchases to improve all points mentioned. IE Toshiro, punk zombies and Isamu. Also I don't see Chiaki as a suitable leading henchmen. I don't own or play Yan Lo yet but he in next on my masters crew box list and I play against him quite regularly. I am going to make suggestions based on crews I own. I know you suggested Yan Lo but let me give you some food for thought. Shenlong's Crew isn't the greatest choice even though his Henchmen Sensei Yu and their shared upgrades are outstanding. Also a quality totem , the peasant, for later in the campaign. The High River Monks offer no real synergy to Shenlong or Sensei Yu. Hence I would pass. Masaki's crew box is not a good choice either. Shang her totem is ok for Rush of Magic but very little else. The Torakage are great generalist minions. Mi and Sh attack actions; A situational + to flip when alone and a other neat tricks. Where Misaki's crew box lacks is the henchmen Ototo. This brute just doesn't cut the mustard when compared to other henchmen. He offers no synergy to other models. He is moderately slow, weak willed, becomes slightly more of a threat when only 6 or less wounds remain but as no defences to keep damage to a minimum. In regular games Ototo is a very situational choice so as a model you will use in half of the campaign as a leader he is a flop. My suggestion would be Mei Feng crew box. She is a mobile brawler that has good synergy with her box minions , Railworkers. Railworkers are first and foremost Cheap. 5 SS and they are no slouchs. Damage reduction as armour and Defensive ability. Hard to Kill. Attacks are average but the 0 action that discards a card to give + to attack and damage is how these guys will excel. Her totem is ok if you are handing out burning but her truly Henchman Rocks! Kang is a beast in combat! A 7Mi with a 3/4/6 track and push trigger. A 5Sh Rg 6 with blast possibilities and a burning trigger. He has 9 WD, hard to wound, hard to kill and 0 Tactical that will heal him for the cost of a soul stones. Not only does he whoop ass but he is the champ that brings the support! Workers Champion gives + to attack and damage against undead or construct to friendly models within 6". Rousing speech makes friendly models within 6" immune to horror duels. His presence alone with these two abilities will piss off at least a third of your opponents. So the Rail Crew to me is the crew to beat for cost effective campaign play. Money and play wise. A 40ss starting crew list I would consider with suggested models would be: Kang with recalled training and the peoples challenge upgrade 3 Railworkers 2 Katanaka Snipers 2 Tengu As a side note even for campaign games Ten Thunder Brothers are the backs Ten Thunders are carried on. They are one of the best SS cost cheapest minion TT has to offer. If you are going to pick up an extra box of minis these are the guys. I'm so jealous you have a campaign to play in. Have fun and take care.
  12. Shadow Emissary is a serious support piece. Especially if you are planning an playing multiple masters from Ten Thunders. Having a specialized upgrade for each current master is quite a boon. Currently I have been fielding Shenlong Sensei Yu and Shadow Emissary with consistent success. Drawing 3 additional cards every turn, pushing and giving fast to Sensei Yu, swapping out upgrades between Shenlong and Sensei Yu to gain healing is what Shadow Emissary has done for me. Also worth mentioning is an effective Mi/Ca attack. Totally worth the investment and a stellar looking model.
  13. I am so glad to hear that you are starting with a causal approach to the game. It will take time, effort and research to become a better player. There is no magic crew that out performs so play games and have fun. What will win and lose games is sound strategies. As far as the hobby goes Malifaux's miniatures are exceptional. The dynamic and unique sculpts for every model is why I love to paint them. My entire crew is painted and fielding a completely painted crew is a in itself a victory. The dig at the archers was completely personal. They are fantastic looking models. To bad SS cost is off. And Isamu is off the hook with any crew. He just has more synergy with certain masters then others.
  14. Schemes and Stone Podcast. I will say it every time. Listen to it while you paint. They will help you bring all aspects of the game to the table.
  15. Everything looks great! Except the arsenal deck and extra upgrades. Arsenal decks are not required unless you had 1st edition. Models you wanted to use. And all the extra upgrades you bought are in you generalist upgrades 1 and 2. Also I am no veteran but I was asking the exact same questions you are months ago. That being said here is what I have come to learn. Unless you are a savant genius start with Masaki. Her play style is very straight forward. Hell it even says it on her card. Assassinate. Front line, high mobility, destroyer. Don't over look the use of her upgrade Stalking Besento. For a zero action she can stalk a target. But it is the + to flip that makes it worth it every time. Now Shenlong has become my favorite master because he is very versatile. That versitility comes with serious complexity so best back burner him for a bit. I'm not going to spoil the fun of discovering you own play style but one thing you really want out of Shenlong's box is his Henchmen Sensei Yuu. He is far different then Ototo and more of what a decent crew of Masaki needs. Don't get me wrong Ototo is a beautiful model but lacking proper support he isn't a go to guy. Izamu The Armour I do not have. He is on my purchase list after Low River Monks. Tanky damage dealer. Better used with Ancestors (Yan Lo) but is suitable for a master to misdirected damage on too. And engaging models to be slaughtered by Misaki. Katanaka Snipers are great. They should find plenty of time on your board. Long range fire with focus and we'll rounded abilities. One of two under SS priced models of TT. Ten Thunders Archers. Uh.. how to put this nicely. Leave them on the sprue. If you really think you can make something of them and you love the modeling and painting then go for it but they are seriously lack luster on the board. Great shooting ability but over priced, no defensive abilities. Points better spend else where. Like snipers. Ten Thunder Brothers are the backs at which TT crews are built on. You will likely never field more then two but they are the most utility model TT has to offer. There Defensive abilities and Dance of the heavens will infuriate your opponents. The second of the most SS underpriced models. Both the Lone Swords Man and Yamaziko are not in my collection but have heard good things about both. You will find the Lone Swords Man to be scalpel. Cutting away excalty what your opponent need. Get alot of use of of him. Yamaziko will be more of a runner, not an engager. She has a great weak damage on her track but that is about it. Low defense and wounds makes her fall quickly. Is a great carry for a Last Blossom Upgrades like Smoke and Shadows. Stick to using the Smoke part against shooting crews but don't bother with the movement tricks. They really cost won't go off as you would like. Notes: Recalled Training is a top notch upgrade. Buy it often. TT are SS cost wise the most expensive models in the game. Fantastic stats but your main struggle with be always be cost and fielding less models every game so get used to it. Schemes and Stones podcast. Find it. Listen to their master highlights. They will fill your head with tried and true tactics. Other then that have fun and take care
  16. Thanks for all the excellent responses. I had nearly finished responding to all you posts when I clicked accidentally clicked a link and lost 3/4 of my reply. I'm not going to spend the time retyping it. My own damn fault really for not doing it on the laptop. Anyhow thanks again and it has given me some ideas.
  17. So recently I have been playing Shenlong a majority of the time. I really enjoy the control and adaptation to situations he brings to the board especially when I run him in what I call the Triad. That being: Shenlong Sensei Yu w/ Promising Disciple Shadow Emissary w/ Shadow Conflux Shenlong and Sensei Yu are so versatile in their own way. The Shadow Emissary brings such great support with the healing, draw and upgrade push. I have had variations on this theme with Katanaka Snipers, Samurai, Ototo, Sir Archival, dawn serpent, peseants and of course Ten Thunder Brothers. I have had repeated amount of success with the exception of one game of really poor bad positioning. Low River Monks will be my next acquisition but will likely fall in line with the same style build. I would like to attempt something different with Shenlong but an at a loss for idea of what could be comparable. Currently I have : Shenlong Crew Masaki Crew Meng Fei Crew Shadow Puppet Tengu Oiran Jorogumo And already listed models Any ideas?
  18. ro5WzZcC I haven't ever really heard of reducing or increasing hand size for SS cost of game. What do you think a good base line would be? Minimum 4 cards for 35ss or less and an extra card per 10ss over 50ss. Maximum 10 cards.
  19. I really enjoy fielding multiple henchmen too but when I do so I put myself at a disadvantage activation wise. Especially since I play Ten Thunders. When time allows I will try a 70ss game.
  20. I have become very accustomed to playing a standard 50ss game. I would to try a higher ss game simply because I think it would be interesting strategically. Less cards, more activations. More reliance on straight flips higher ability scores and less cheating. Not to mention the possibly of fielding multiple henchmen. What ,within the standard board dimensions (36"x 36"), would be a reasonable but high ss cost game?
  21. I personally started with Misaki and would recommend her to anyone as a starting leader. I would suggest finding the podcast "Schemes and Stones" and listen to all three leaders episodes then decide for yourself. Good luck.
  22. Ten Thunder Brothers are always great! They can be utilized is so many different ways because of the Dance of the Heavens action. They are also one of the most under SS priced models in TT. Katanaka Snipers over Archers anyday of the week. Focus ability for extra range. + To flip on Shooting and Melee flip with a decent damage track. Once again an underrated cost SS cost for abilities compared to other TT models. These models are also indispensible in other crews besides Masaki.
  23. Wow! Thanks this is one of best best pieces of advise I have recieved on this forum. Concise, and informative. The things that are excalty why I want to run them. Especially the tarp pit. Block lines of site to Masaki.
  24. The smoke bomb part never really occurred to me. Definitely a plus I'd I took S&S. As for Disguise, it is something I generally don't take. Many just a style thing I guess. Though with the new errata it certainly has more appeal. Hidden Agenda on the right target is a hell of an upgrade. To be able to give all Oiran with in LoS focused and fast. I'm certainly going to utilize the extra AP to finish off Misaki's target, Provide cover for Misaki's early activation, and engage new possibile targets. The focus just adds to the possibility of success. The lure is in all fact of the matter an after thought not a focus. It could have its placed against low WP minions.
