UKGT 2014 Sweepstake, Raising Money for WAAC!

Come one, come all to the official Malifaux GT Sweepstake!

This is an idea, with the kind permission of the organiser Mr Marshall, shamelessly stolen from the Warhammer Fantasy events I used to attend, where it always brought much banter and an ability for those not there to participate vicariously from afar.

All of the players attending the GT have been split up into 5 pools, based on their current rankings (the Masters one, since that's the only one I care about!). In order to enter, you pick a 'team' of 5 players, 1 from each pool. Each player will earn a score equal to their final placing at the event. The team with the lowest score wins a prize!

For example, Marshall Michaels picks a team of the following;
Greg Piskosz (pool A)
Scott Porter (pool B )
Lee Battrick (pool C)
Mark Byrne (pool D)
Cathy Winton (pool E)

At the end of the event, the team earns the following (hypothetical! Do not hold me to these...) positions;
Greg Piskosz, 10th
Scott Porter, 65th
Lee Battrick, 12th
Mark Byrne, 32nd
Cathy Winton, 64th

The total of these positions is 183, so this team's score is 183 and this will be matched against other teams to find the winner of the sweepstake. Lowest score wins, 2nd lowest score comes second and so on. Highest score takes the wooden spoon and a consolation prize!

Each entry costs £2. All money collected goes into the prize pot, which will be split up at the end of the event as follows;
50% to Wargamers Against All Cancer
25% to the winner of the sweepstake
15% to the 2nd place entrant
5% to the 3rd place entrant
5% to the last place entrant

If possible prizes will be given out on the day but if not, payment will be by Paypal as soon as possible.

To send your entry money, Paypal is outcastsquig(at)gmail(dot)com or you can pay up at the event. I'm quite a hard man to miss!

Anyone can enter, and they can enter as many teams as they like. I'll be taking entries up until the event starts on Saturday morning. You can enter by email, PM on the boards, by posting your team here, or even handing me a scrap of paper on Friday night. I don't care.

The only caveat is that you must have paid and given me your team before the first round begins on Saturday morning. If I haven't got both by then, then you won't be entered. Hopefully not an issue, but just have to be absolutely clear. :)

Right then. The moment you've all been waiting for. The pools, complete with bad horseracing names...

Pool E - Next Week's Tesco Value Burgers

Matt Spooner

I'm not entering - I'm running the thing and I'm not Jimmy Balderstone - but if I were I'd probably enter the following teams;

The Panzer All Stars (and hereby given the kiss of death for their chances!)

Pool A: Joel Henry
Pool B: Graham Bursnell
Pool C: Adam Hutchinson
Pool D: Aaron Bailey
Pool E: Adam Wheeler

The Wooden Spooners

Pool A: Mark Elwood (not enough chumps)
Pool B: Ben Harris (what in God's name am I doing up there)
Pool C: Ben Halford (he paints, but this whole gaming thing is a lost art)
Pool D: Chris King (gets a nosebleed when on a single-digit table number)
Pool E: James Winton (BluTac round 1 is not a promising start)

Anyway. Let the banter and fundraising commence!

Any questions, post them up here and I'll answer as soon as I can.

Above all else, please remember this is tongue firmly in cheek and nobody should take their pool, nickname or placements in teams personally! :)

EDIT: RESULTS ARE ON PAGE 3!

Okay will cash you for this later but I will take -

Pool A - Ben ‘Late Surge’ Crowe (he's got the taste for victory now)

Pool B - Scott Porter (ready to come out swinging)

Pool C - Adam Hutchinson (no list is complete without a squig)

Pool D - Bob McCallum (luck of the Irish)

Pool E - James Winton (he's up and coming)

What happens if you have a drop out on your list?

Nicknames updated. At some point I'll have to get someone to translate Paul's - my Scottish is a little rusty!

No probs paying on Friday. Will bring a bucket and a baseball bat.

If there's a dropout then the person picking gets to find a replacement. If they don't do that... I'll think of something, probably based on averages for the pool or similar.

Well I think I'm going to have 2 pools.

First is my SMP (and friends) pool.

Pool A - Benjamin Crowe
Pool B - Martin Wodehouse
Pool C - Mike Hutchinson (sorry Jan)
Pool D - Austin Capewell (sorry Aaron)
Pool E - Nathan Chenery

Next is my "real" choices

Pool A - James ‘Fading Fast’ Doxey - Sorry Jamin, but Doxey is still the Arcanist master and UK no.1 (for a bit)
Pool B - Matt Ledgerwood - I like Martin, but Matt just had recent success and now he must have a taste for it.
Pool C - Ben Sime - sorry people, I came to game.
Pool D - Aaron Bailey - not had the best results lately but I know is capable and think extra rounds will help
Pool E - Adam Boyes - My dark horse maybe?

Pool C - Adam 'Hutch' Hutchinson

Pool D - Mark 'I hope he games as well as he paints' Byrne

Pool B - Matt 'The Resser' Ledgerwood

Pool C - Ben 'If I don't have confidence in myself, no-one will' Halford

Pool D - Andy 'of the Wintons' Winton

Pool E - Nathan 'Why the hell am I still in pool E?' Chenery

Though choosing yourself is a little cheeky that is a good shout for Pool C, great results lately. Even if you do role over for your club mates ;-)

I've been beating all my club mates a lot more lately, apart from Graham, he's my bogey opponent ;)

There was a few people I could of gone for in Pool C, but everyone I looked at I realised I had a fair chance of beating them from past experience ;)

·         Ben ‘best Resser painter’ Halford

Go Getters

·         Greg ‘I’m only the chosen one for the Masters, honest’ Piscosz

·         Luke ‘I’ll definitely need the points when Mike nullifies that controversial score from the team GT’ Cocksage

·         Dave ‘if I do really well I could just make the masters’ Hill

·         Mark ‘unknown quantity’ Byrne

·         Nathan ‘I can’t play M2E, but I was quite handy at 1.5’ Chenery

Surprise Packages

·         Ben ‘must be getting a nosebleed’ Crowe

·         Ben ‘hypothetically place me at 65th will ya?’ Harris

·         Lee ‘if you ask nicely I’ll tell you how to beat me’ Batterick

·         Liam ‘I’m sure I remember him complaining how bad he is at Malifaux on Twitter’ Hall

·         Andrew ‘sorry I had to pick someone ‘cos Spooner isn’t playing’ Richardson

Both me and Jen are entering a selection.

Jen's List (i.e. people she vaguely knows): Greg Piscosz, Connor Barker, Pete Rees, Chris Hay, James Winton

Connor's List: Joel Henry (got second in his first Gremlin event), Martin Wodehouse (should be further up the rankings), Nate Zettle (filthy, filthy Collette :P (also made Jen's decision easier :P)), Chris Hay (my dark horse for the day, think he can upset some of the champs), Nathan Chenery (I don't really know anyone in Group E)
