Summon in BTB after Sacrifice?

Question asked at tournament today:

 

If Ashes & Dust is surrounded by enemy models and killed, will the Core be able to be placed after the A&D model is removed, or is it unable to be placed?

 

My ruling: Core must be placed in BTB with A&D before it is removed...since it is not possible to do that, IAW Summon rules it can not be placed.

 

What do others think?

I agree with your ruling as per page 51. You still get a Dust Storm though.

I had someone kill my A&D by doing this at GenCon. It took a lot of effort and lost him the game, but it sure was funny.
