dmeep
I can see the layers of wills paving on the gun one? I can see the layers of wills paving on the gun one I dont understand what you mean, would you care to elaborate?
dafruk
The base, it looks like it's made from layers of plasticard with the top layer being wills paving. I'm guessing by your reaction that it's a resin base you've bought. Reason I know is I use the textured plasticard which is made by a company called Wills to make my bases for some of my stuff. dmeep
Theyre actually metal inserts from black cat bases. A cheaper option then most other bases but quality is hit or miss one some of their line. Now I belive I promised some shooty mercs for today the base is homemade from a secret weapon bag of skulls. I would probably use a Boneyard base today instead of gluing that many skulls to a single base but he is huld hogan deathmachine extraordinaire. On the plus side hes ankledeep in skulls intead of standing on top of a ground littered with them. Next is the convict gunslinger I didnt go for the striped nor the orange pants on him, hes on parole and wearing his own clothes. Lets hope nathan dont see this one thats it for today tomorrow: the 1.5 mascot and his home
dmeep
And here he is the oldest human resident in malifaux But what would Jack Daw be without his hanging tree. I have to say I imagined it bigger when the 1.5 rulebook had him skipping between branches out of sight from people down below. I guess well start with the neverborn tomorrow So what do you want to see first? Pandora Lilith Lynch Zoraida Collodi or my dreamer proxy?
dmeep
I think well start of the neverborn block with the dreamer proxy As the dreamer i give you a chineese girl holding a bunny Thats Aiko from the Bushido lines temple of ro-kan faction And as her trusty lord chompy bits a WIP of a frostwyrm meant for a whfb thing i think, it was a chech page if i recall correctly Hes far from done. But big claws? check! Big teeth? check! so I think it makes a fine LCB dont you? It came on a thick resin scenic base that was quite thick so Ive done a fairly decent job rounding the corners but could probably go back and do more. He still needs more highlights and then dulling down with black washes. The same technique that I used on my hungering darkness. Something this guy also was a candidate for before i saw some of the chuthulu wars sculpts and the warrior nation spirit thing from WWX Ill probably add my teddy proxy to this post aswell once I loate it in the closet. I put of putting it together since lining up hte arms was a bit of a hassle. Tomorrow I guess well have some Pandora
dmeep
The box opens Here she is the lady was named a npe in 1.5 I added a tentacle from the sewer aceossories blister to the box and in hindsight I should probably have gone for it comming out of the ground instead. I still kinda like the image of the box beeing a gate to another dimension and tentacled fiends trying to push through an opening far too small for it. But its slightly to big I feel. My idea with the sorrows where that they pushed through reality and adopted the texture and patterning of the place they spawned. Hence mr carpet sorrow And his buddy mr book Sorrow The idea was to get writing all over him since he spawned from the page of a book. A far better idea then execution Im afraid I used a small pen to "write" on him and should probably wash him with a diluted bone colour to dull the black a bit since it comes of very sharp Also have a green one that spawned from a rift in the floor on the same type of orphonage base as pandora is standing on but it seems to have gone missing for now. Doppelganger a basic paintjob and I should probably go back and do something more with the skin. Something I dont fear as much anymore but still dont feel I can pull of realistcaly. a liberal application of tamayia clear red on the back. dafruk
Like the idea of the sorrows, that's a great concept and the execution has worked well too. You've already commented on the doppleganger probably wanting a bit more work done o the front and I'd agree, tamiya clear red on the back is all that model needs for that half of it! zFiend
I really like your Sorrows, such great ideas! Also that Bodysuit on Vikkie is just amazing idea! Also your paints are really well done!
dmeep
Dafruk: thanks. the problem with the doppelganger will have to wait tough as I have made the rule that I wont repaint as long as I have unpainted minis to focus on. When I look at it I want to work some more on the skin and also add a light blue stripe to the towels lower area to make it slightly less bland I think. But that might change when Ive painted enough to actually get back to it. Zfiend: thank you. glad you like it. Remember that imitation is the greatest form of flattery so if you have unpainted viks or sorrrows laying around show me your take on it. Keeping up with some more of the pandora models. Baby Kade The over the top blood scheme is inspired by my memories of the pet cemetary movie with the little kid running around slicing achilles tendons and beeing covered in gore And the archenemy of japanese scoolgirls everywhere the Insidious madness a rather lackluster non inspired scheme on this one. the eyes was inspired in a way by octopie eyes Now I dont care for any of the nephilim models apart from mr graves and tuco basicly so for my Lelu and Lelitu i turned to the helldorado range. For Lelu I turned to Wormpile from the lost faction. If Hamelin has an enforcer in m2e this might be a good fit for him also. A sentient pile of worms that devour you seemed to fit the bill for the melee twin and the poison wasnt that farfetched either. For Lelitu I got Samael the sword staff seemed like it could be whipped out for the 3" and he floats so a good fit thats it for now. I guess Ill carry on into Lilith next
dmeep
So some more Nephilim Their Queen Lilith The sneakiest of the Ortegas - Tuco A walking shrubbery - Waldgeist And Liliths and Pandoras joint custody pet/child/pukesnake - Primordeal Magic Should probably try for a gem effect on the eyes sometime down the line. Was to much of a coward to try it since I was going to use it in a game the next day when I painted it. Will probably be another post later tonight since I didnt post anything yesterday. Guess Itll be Zoraida and the voodoo doll as they share the swamp bases with lilith.
dmeep
So Baba-Yaga eh I mean Zoraida And her totem the vodoo doll we might stick with the doll theme for awhile OgeyBoogey eh I mean Stitched together And the second one I guess well follow up this with the rest of hte puppets Collodi marionettes and wicked dolls and so forth
dafruk
Knew this thread would finally pay out, yay bewbs! Ok, childish behvious quota ticked off, back on track. ahem. Like the swampy bases, have you considered putting gloss varnish or water effect on the swampy bits in places to give them a more liquid feel? Stitched are some of my favourite models for some reason, I like what you've done with the blood soacked stitching where it's seeping through the seams. dmeep
Dafruk: well you can tell she never had kids, beeing that perky at that age... Guess its hard to model two fried eggs nailed to the wall... Continuing on the Doll theme starting with Collodi I gave all the marionettes individual schemes figuring that if hes putting on a show the characters in the puppet theatre should be easily distinquishable collodi himself is a WIP missing some freehand I was to scared to do at the time. The Red black and white scheme is partly inspired by the puppet from SAW (the first one not the rubbish sequells) The basing is a balsa blinder thingy that came stained so I didnt bother to try and paint it. Making it look more real or not... This was my first malifaux models not on base inserts. his foot got a bit mangled snipping him of the tab so dont look too closely at it.
dmeep
I should probably go back and rework their faces last one And now for some of my least favourite models to paint in the entire range for some reason... Wicked dolls Gacy Doll The Spawn doll (meaning the previous one can be violator if you like) I should have done a lot more of the Insert in the back of this one on the others but a lack of confidence in freehand and pulling of striped, checkered and tartan patterns made me settle for just the one in his back And the last one thats frankly just offensive. I was so sick and tired of them by this point and had zero ideas and just wanted hom to be done. terrible terrible Hes in for a date with Yes kitchen or bathroom spray (cant remember wich one is closest to simple green out of my domestic cleaning supplies) Now we start moving on to the dark debts crew wich sadly was the second one i painted after seamus i think. It shows... although hungering darkness aka barbapappa turned out alright )
dmeep
And now we come to a really early example of wyrd plastics. This was one of the earlier crews i painted up. I changed my mind of the mustard and gold wests for graves and tannen wich i regret today. But painting gold cloth without nmm is tricky or am I just making it harder then it needs to be? Well start out with mr lynch I made an attempt at filling in the cards but ended up painting over it since it looked horrible Should have gone for the Ace of masks on all of them since he is a cheating bastard after all. Or atleast was in 1.5 The yellowish west was supposed to reference the honeypot but feels unfinished and it annoys me Barbapappa aka Hungering darkness painted him p3 coal black and highlighted with gw hawk turquise and some light blue and then washed him in badab black wash down again Holy that mouldline down his face.... Well he was going to get replaced with the frostwurm or the spirit thingy from WWX native americans. Think Ive found some more proxys for it since then but it was always slated for a new model from day one. I decided to use the drybrushing purple and pink for brilliance for some reason so thats why his teeth are that colour aswell as his eyes. Its a reoccuring theme throughout the dark debts models. Brilliance oozing out of the sewers there... A clear exemple of my unique snowflake syndrome assembling him with the least popular arm option instead of the matching pair of claws... More drugaddicts to come tomorrow
dmeep
more drugaddicts it is... And some pusher ladies Tried to do them in much the same way as the concept art since I struck out for inspiration I couldnt do skin let alone darker skin. Im still not that awesome at it but this is horribad the best thing on that mini is the rubbishbin... The other one was supposed to be asian... not as bad as the first but not a good showing either way Tomorrow the bouncer and the cooler - Mr Graves & Mr Tannen
dmeep
So I actually played two games of malifaux 1.5 last night. Two demo games where Molly tried to escape and survive against Liliths claim jump and Molly trying to reconoiter an area vs Vicks & Von Schill. First game was a slaughter fest as i didt bring the rogue necromancy and Sybelle just doesnt stand up to lilith tuco and Mr graves. Second game faired a little bit better but was a loss aswell but i did kill of the vicks and could have managed a draw with some lucky flips and soulstones. But it was 0200 so I conceded defeat once again. So from last nights game, the bane of Crooligans I bring you Mr Graves in his early paintjob and to my regrett not a mustard yellow vest like Jacob to Signyfy the Honeypots work attaire. needs some cleanup and possibly a repainted west. Ill have to give Jacobs vest some attention with gold freehand and see how that works out before I start messing with theirs. And the cooler that Ive only used on the table once and got promptly murdered before he could do anything as soon as my opponent looked on his card... Mr Tannen And thats actually It for now... I cant find any minis that I have pictures of atm that isnt In the thread. But as I played a game last night and some minis found its way onto my painting table it might be a while between this post and the next update. Sorry Dafruk since youre the only one that replies The half finished models I found in a feldherr pack I cleared out for use for my savage wave and Cult of Yurei for bushido was: Copycat killer, Dead Doxy, Yan-Los Nice whatever her name is and Rusty Alice. Well see if I finish the last 9 unpainted bushido models before I get back to painting Malifaux or if I just cant help myself.
