Question regarding Lazarus Assimilate

This came up from a discussion in the Arcanists section under the thread Mercenaries and i wanted to get people opinions.

 

The Assimilate action requires that a model not be listed by name.  Can he copy Metal Gamin's protection from metal as it doesn't actually list a model except the only requirement for the condition to be enabled is a Metal gamin be within 3"

I just read it and I suppose it could be played two ways.

 

1. The actual action doesn't list a model by name, so yes, he could Assimilate it.

2. The condition to be enabled lists a model by name (Gamin) and refers the ability to be the Gamin's named ability. So no.

 

Which way it is, I have no idea, hopefully it will be cleared up.

I believe the precedent set in the past was that literally any mention of any model by name, anywhere in the ability's description, was sufficient to prevent it being Assimilated. That's simply the easiest and most consistent ruling.

Tough call. I tend towards no, because of Kadeton's reasoning.

 

However, it's not the action that lists a model, but a condition applied by the action. Could see it going both ways.

The ability mentions Metal Gamin, a model, by name. So I'd say Lazarus can't copy it.

I see both sides, the stronger reason is No due to a named model in the description.
