Anya Lycarayen (Syndicate Keyword) Discussion
Giovanni Canzanella replied to HomelessOne's topic in The Explorer's Society
Rook is an AMAZING model. I struggled a lot with him, when I first used Anya, not understanding his potential. Then you realize that the man can literally do EVERYTHING he wants with his Stat7, using all the triggers that he wants, and whenever he wants. Then, you notice that he can be very hard to take down (not impossible, but hard): in fact, your opponent will think twice before attacking a model that puts a on all the incoming attacks. I wouldn't neglect the Operatives as well, charming tech pieces that can find a place in your list against certain crews (they are amazing against Dreamer). Just keep them in the backlines and fire on everything that tries to engage Corvis, and laugh at your enemy's face when you tell him that they ignore Terrifying True, he's not solid as Corvis and he will die very quickly to a decisive attack (a Viktoria can easily melt him in one activation). Nonetheless, he's an auto-take for his Arcane Reservoir and his movement shenanigans, just be careful not to send him too far away on his own. Welcome to the Condor Rails, enjoy your trip ! 🚂 -

Corvis can use Price of progress to have the trigger Draw Out Secret, and with Stat7, you can guarantee the success. Same as above, but with the Operatives (even if with Stat4 will be very hard to succeed) Anya herself can put down 3 markers in a single activation. Vernon & W (alright, they are not in keyword, but they are versatile) can just discard a card to make an interact that doesn't count as an Action Winston can Interact even while engaged AND give Distracted to enemies, in one Action. I really fail to see how they are not good at spamming markers, honestly -
Man, those operatives are crazy good! Ignoring terrifying and shooting with a into Friendly Fire.

I did, a month ago. New Kirai vs New Viks, and it was a slaughter fest for Kirai. My opponent had Bishop, Taylor, Vanessa, 2 ronin, Student of conflict. I had Datsue Ba, 2 Goryo (1 of them with GST), 1 Gwisin (not sure that's the name...) and Jaakuna Ubume. At the end of Turn 4, beside the Viks, there was nothing left of the Enemy team. New Kirai is sooooo bloodthirsty, and the crew has so much mobility (compared to the v1) that you can proc the "Join us" at least twice per turn. I summoned so much stuff with this list (2 Onryos, 1 gaki, 2 more seishin) that my opponent only managed to get 1 Strat Marker (we were playing on Symbols of authority) and none of his Schemes. The board was literally flooded with my summons and, of course they die quickly against the Viks, but once you manage to have a couple of your minions engaged on an Adversary enemy, there goes the crazy positive flips. Kirai's attack is lethal, she dishes so much damage and even if she's fragile, you can easily protect her, and trust me, nobody would want to approach her when she has a Gwisin and a couple of Seishin close to her. I played this game a month ago, as I said, so I can't remember exactly Schemes and score (Im not even sure about my list, to be honest), but sure as Hell my opponent was very frustrated. That being said, it was the first time game for my opponent with the new Viks and I suspect he didn't play as it was supposed to (Taylor was too far away and died too early in the game to use her anti-summon Action).

That's my problem. It's annually release. Considering all the rules that would need clarification, I would appreciate a lot to have official answers more often, but you already explained the reason why the FAQ is released annually and not monthly
-
Thank you Adran. Hard to shape an opinion with all of this. For the sake of simplicity, I will stick to the FAQ and ruling as the Vengeance doesn't apply on Take The Hit in my future games. That being said, I'm really curious to understand why is not possible for the guys at Wyrd to let out (weekly, monthly, whatever) some rules clarification, just to make sure that non-english players like me (that doesn't grasp some of the subtlety of the english rule-language) can play the game just as it is intended 😊

Question about Gwisin. Did the +2 Vengeance applies when he Takes the Hit for protecting Kirai?

Whoa, that sounds like a gruesome game. That's the problem with Syndicate, they are just too squishy -

Did you manage to keep her alive through the game? Looking at her card, I had the same feeling as you: without defensive techs, and needing to be so close to the enemy, I fear she won't survive long. As for the app, the box is expected basically next week, isn't it? I'm honestly surprised the stats are not in the app already, but at this point it will surely a matter of days -
Lucas McCabe (Wastrel Keyword) Discussion
Giovanni Canzanella replied to HomelessOne's topic in The Explorer's Society
Mmhh, good question. Do I want her? Considering that I play lots of Anya lately and consistently Frontier keywords, maybe I should just grab the box and see in what condition she's worth paying her cost. Do you have any experience with her? -

Yup, that's how I love my games as well, to be honest So basically I need: McCabe corebox, One born every minute, Fool's Gold and...maybe Wanderlust? I've read Jessie's card but she doesn't seem so good on paper. -

OH MY GOD Why did I never think about this? ❤️ I can't wait to try this in my next Basse game. But getting back in topic, Im considering to get into McCabe, as new add for my Explorer's roster. Considering that I will soon get the Fool's Gold box for Cornelius (those Rough riders are magnificent models), what other box do you think is necessary for McCabe to run efficiently? -
I'm excited to have the Catalan riflemen and Yannick on the battlefield with Anya, to try new combo with the Syndicate. Also, I really look forward to get some victory with the Syndicate, so far my % of Wins is not really exciting, considering how tricky is this crew to play 😟

Just as I did, my friend. I didn't really catch the importance of Corvis until somebody on this forum (I think it was, once again, @Adran) pointing out that, with an Attack stat of 7, the guy can do EVERYTHING he wants with his triggers, and there is no way to stop him. Do you want to push Lord Chompy away? Done! Do you want to put down a Scheme Marker for "Detonate charge"? Done! (just...don't do that next to Lord Chompy :p) Do you want to stagger Coppelius so he doesn't run all around the map? Done! And if you are worried that Corvis will get punched in the face, then your opponent will have to get rid of tons and tons of card just to avoid the , thanks to his "Flexible morality" ability. Plus, you have your SS to absorb damage...more than enough to discourage your enemy to target him too hard. -

I quote everything Adran said about your list, he made some good point about the Surveyor being pretty useless in this matchup. Here is my 2 cents about it (I played Anya into a dozen of games now). Against the Dreamer, I would get rid of Austera and the Surveyor and consider taking Corvis and 1 or even 2 Operatives. I already wrote how much I love Operatives, and I find them indispensable against the Dreamer, for the following reasons. They ignore Terrifying, since they are not considered Enemies; this means, free attack on Teddy and Lord Chompy. Sure, Teddy and Chompy are big tanky pieces but you can manage to deal big chunks of damage before they close on you. Operatives has on their Attack when they shoot into Friendly Fire. This means, you can engage Chompy or Teddy with Corvis and shoot turn after turn from the backlines with those tasty . Once Corvis has lock on Teddy or Chompy, the only way they can get out of melee is by killing Corvis (good luck with that) or to force the Dreamer to Place Chompy out of the melee. In both cases, you are forcing your opponent to find a way around, or to play more defensive. Since Operatives are not considered Enemies, the Dreamer CANNOT summon his minions if the Operatives fail a WP duel. This becomes is a HUGE advantage if your opponent ignore this rule and decide to target your operatives. On the top of all this, I think you might even consider taking Vernon and Wells, which gives the enemies a precious to all WP duel. Of course, considering how fragile Syndicate models are, go heavy on Soulstones. You need a lot of them to protect Corvis and Winston (I wouldn't worry about Anya, she's slippery enough to get away of the melee quite easily). As you can see, with Anya and the Syndicate you have all the right tools to make Dreamer's life a true nightmare (AH! THE PUN! 🤣). Hope this will help you -

Really? Did I miss this part in the Outcast book, or it is just a theory? -

I agree. Operatives are such a magnificent tech-piece that I always get at least one. They can guarantee 3 or 4 cards drawing each game, not mentioning the crazy when they shoot into friendly fire (oh, and they ignore Terrifying, Manipulative and tons of other stuff). I don't think a Catalan rifleman could ever be as good as an Operative, but I will gladly give it a try once they are out. -

YES! Hail of bullets was the funniest thing ever to do with Bandits. I would love to see it back! -
Anya's Bleeding Edge
Giovanni Canzanella replied to Giovanni Canzanella's question in Malifaux Rules Discussion
All in all, while it may sound weird that Anya can shoot her tomahawk through walls, buildings and everything else, standing by the rule book, I think we all agree that Dropping a scheme marker does not require a LoS and that Dropping is different than moving or creating. -

Giovanni Canzanella replied to Giovanni Canzanella's question in Malifaux Rules Discussion
My only doubt on this, its that the action is actually a Shoot action, which normally requires a LoS, or am I missing something? -
Hello, does Anya's free action requires a LoS? Since it's not specified otherwise I would say so, but I would like to be sure about it.

Infiltrator and terrifying test
Giovanni Canzanella replied to Giovanni Canzanella's question in Malifaux Rules Discussion
Alright, so this means I can still move Chompy if I win the duel? Nice to know..but in this case I still have to take the Terrifying test with Winston?
