  1. Bloodwretches are decent schemers after they got an errata, but the rest are a rather sad bunch of shelfwarmers.

Angeleyes does have some play with Lucius1, agent and doppelganger if you want to surprise your opponent with a neverborn gunline crew, although it has a rather limited usefulness if your opponent has means to deal with it

So, I'm looking to paint up some fauna this month. I've got the ciorrupted hounds, molemen, slate ridge maulers and gators all prepped and ready to recieve an undercoat and the Gupps and Spawn mother undercoated and sitting about. Not certain which order I'll tackle them in and doubt I'll do all of them this month.

What I have already done this month over the course of thursday and friday (while watching a bi-yearly charity speedrun event) is finally painted up the Malisaurus Rex. This big guy has been sitting on my painting pile for ages having had a lot of greenstuff work done to cover up the various gaps the model has. Pretty chuffed with how he has come out and his NMM manacle is vaguely relevant to the current wyrd painting contest (though nowhere near as grand in scale as lots of the awesome metalwork people have put in over there).

That's a really nice green hue! Very vibrant, and goes well together with the pink, turquoise and bone.

I just can't get over how big that model is... I got mine assembled and ready for paining, and it doesn't really "feel" like a huge model. But then looking at that 50mm base, it just looks so incredibly small...

So, I suppose we have to wait until votes are closed to reveal what mini is to be added when submitted for HM contest ?

Yeah... It's supposed to be anonymous, but looking at the gallery, I'm not sure everyone actually got that part... (Think it's quite clear who's the painter in atleast 4 of the entries). I personally don't think it's a very big deal, but you should probably wait until voting is closed before posting here.

  4. And suddenly we're in June 😱

May flew by so fast. I guess some of you have been busy with the competition.

If you haven't already I strongly suggest you take a look at all the amazing entries and join in in the voting!

Looking forwards to seeing who painted what😄

Well, back to the challenge... What will you be painting this month?

I've got a tournament coming up at the beginning of July, so I hope to get enough nephilim painted up to be able to run a fully painted functional crew. That means I've really got to up my game, as that is a big keyword😈

One last model, squeaked in at the end of the month. Wanted to try out a base design for my next crew so this was a test model. relatively simple but I like how maxine came out.

This was also my first foray into using oils for my malifaux minis and was really pleased how it turned out! I started with acrylics, then did a layer of oils and then went back to acrylics for a few details at the end, which I think worked particularly well. I'm particularly pleased with the face on this one.

Ps I almost forgot I whizzed through Beau and some piglets for a tournament a couple of weeks ago- proper speed painting I'm afraid, but may go back to them at some point.

That brings my total for this month to 101SS painted!

    Wow!

I've also been playing around with the idea of dipping into oils, but it just seems so messy. What with needing solvents for thinning and cleaning. As a painting medium I think it looks ace, but how do you handle workspace, cleaning, thinning and fumes?

  6. Last day of may today😁

So many colourful minis we have so far.

@Moinetbeard really takes the prize for vibrant coloured gremlins that's really striking.

@MestreGuilderius has some convincing coloured OSL👍

@TimH's Hinamatsu also bolsters a really colourful kimono, freehand patterns and all!

While still colourful, @Diddick's robot got some serious weathering going. Love it❤️

@Gheist also got quite the vibrant repeating turquoise theme for his Oni. I particularly like the magic effect on Asami.

    Good work everyone.

Me? I'll be posting up some images of my own very very soon😆

  7. As you said her stat 7 12" wp attack is what I take her for with Dreamer1. 1 damage and an injured alone isn't really a big deal, but when you have a buried alp, that attack does 2 damage and puts your alp exactly where you want it, with a free attack against an injured model.

It's not an auto-include for me, but if I think I'll need the alp disruption, I take her. (That and the fact that I love the sculpt!)

  8. I guess he could have play ook, but in my opinion he has too much keyword synergies for it to be worthwhile compared to other models like Hinamatsu, Vasilisa, Candy, Mature nephilim etc.

You are correct that you would get to summon a terror tot from necrotic decay, but the target would have to be on 1 health as it needs to die from the black blood before it takes damage from the actual attack.

*waves* Hello. :) These mini's are amazing! I've been painting myself off and on for about two or three years (I started my first during 'stay at home' mandates so I guess that does make three years now O.O). I am new around here, just stumbled on Wyrd's page and this forum from a wild internet search. But I am thinking of throwing in my chips on this challenge here soon, late to the party (as usual) but it will be fun to play around at least and show off what I have been doing at least. :) Gluing a guy together to submit for the Heavy Metal contest right now, crossing my fingers I have time to finish him.

Looking forward to seeing more everyone's work and letting you see some of mine! 💜

    -M.

You're more than welcome to join in😁

Still 7 months left of 2023 after all.

Due to the decline in posts lately, I guess you're not the only one working on an entry for the competition.

I know I have been, but I'm finished now, so I'll move on to something else soon😉

@Hawkoon Yeah, it's possible that I'll retroactively be claiming soulstones for a model for May that may not show up in this thread for ... reasons ... ;)

This is not the first time. You can just note the SS down in the form without showing off photos at the end of the month. But make sure to post the photos once winners are announced.

  11. Yeah, I find Nekima lists generally quite fun. Glad you enjoyed it!

When it comes to growing, it depends a lot on the pool. If you need models to move around and scheme you want to focus on growing tots to young, but if you need to kill stuff you want to grow young to matures.

In general I prefer matures over caverns, but sometimes you'll want the ranged attack with blasts. Or if you get a chance to grow a young that's already on scheme-duty you might want to grow it into a cavern instead. And then there are those occasions where you already have 2 matures on the board, but then you're probably winning already😁

    Brilliant thanks for the replies.

So if I look at starting with the mentioned boxes for nekima what would be a decent 50ss list ?

Also trying to get into the game on a somewhat budget instead of owning everything in one go - what other masters have an alright cross over of models or is malifaux not really like that?

In Malifaux you will want to tweak your list for each game (as opponent, boardstat, schemes and strategy affects what you want to bring each game). A good core for Nekima1 is you want atleast 1 mature nephilim from the start (I more often than not bring 2). You also want a Black blood shaman to distribute focus to your models. To gain some more mileage of your shaman, starting with a terror tot to gain a grow token from ancient ritual on turn 1 is also a good idea. From there it's more situational what I hire, but young nephilim are good hires as they are fast enough to scheme/do strategy and packs a decent punch in melee. THey are however qiute fragile, so keep them out of range/line of sight of enemy models (Flight helps a lot here, use it wisely!).

    Here's a general list:

    • Nekima - Inhuman reflexes (I always take this upgrade) - +2SS
    • Bloodhunter
    • Mature Nephilim (Ancient pact) - 10+2SS
    • Black blood shaman (ancient pact) - 6+2SS
    • Terror tot - 4SS
    • Young nephilim - 7SS
    • Hayreddin - 9SS
    • Cache: 8SS

General idea is to setup the shaman to use blood ritual trigger attacking my own models t1 (don't attack mature as you can't cheat in a mask to get the trigger!). Get out some corpses for ancient ritual to pulse focus to EVERYONE. The terror tot will get a grow token instead, and by using grim feast on a corpse later, will turn into a Young nephilim. Key is to go in guns blazing with Nekima, mature nephilim and Hayreddin late in the turn, then hope to get initiative next turn (2x Ancient pact does wonders for this tactic!). That way you should be able to eliminate some of the opponent before they get to retalliate too heavily. I always bring a lot of stones with this type of list as it helps keep Nekima and Hayreddin alive, hopefully longe enough to take the advantage of the alpha strike. More often that not your opponent will be spending most of their action trying to deal with the carnage, and leaves your young nephilim and shaman to go score points unhindered.

  13. As we don't know how Kastore's models will be packed, it's hard to give any advice on collecting. (Though yoy want whatever box Cavern Nephilim are in for Nekima)

Nephilim are a rather selfcontained keyword, so you'll get quite far with just the core box along with blood brood and blood ritual to get the essential growth options.

After those three I'd get the title box (Monstrous), mostly for Nekima2.

For Titania it's quite a different case where Titania1 likes a lot of models outside her keyword while Titania2 makes keyword models better. Essential buys for both masters is the Mysterious Emissary. Good buys outside the core box and title box is the Howling (for Rougarou) and the Malisaurus Rex. Alternatively Hooded rider also does well with the fae.

I also have good experience with the Kurgan (from Jedza/Zoraida title box).

@Hawkoon I've found that the actual exercise of painting is much more enjoyable (for me, at least) when I go the quality route over the volume route, so I'm not going to be threatening any great volume of production (and I have another project that is on the volume over quality track right now!), but I'll post what I do! Gearling #2 is on the table right now - hope to get a start on Sunday. I've always been an NMM naysayer, but really enjoyed it on Gearling #1!

Oh, I'm also in the quality>quantity camp, so I fully understand. Though I do enjoy playing with painted models, so I have this constant inner struggle with myself :P

  15. Note to self: april fools day jokes work better on a more instant planform where most people read the joke on the 1'st :P

@Viruk and @Gheist I'm seriously impressed by how much work you gotten done already this month. And not at the cost of quality painting😵

I particularly like the colours on @Gheist's sandworm and  @Viruk's "marshalls".

Quite an impressive load done by @djmacbest as well, that's what, ~50SS worth of models so far? (love the intense green of those woes!)

And I see we have gotten a new recruit! Looks very promising @Brad Maynes 👍 Looking forwards to see more stuff here soon
