  1. One of the biggest things is to dilute your paints. I like to use a medium (Vallejo glaze medium). So when you do edge highlight you want mostly translucent paints, or it will look chalky and sharp. Also to not keep too much paint in your brush or it'll start to flow into places you don't want it. Unfortunately, I can't tell you any ratios, because it depends on your paints and medium. (My white require more medium than my browns, my yellow hardly require any.)
  2. I don't have a light box or daylight lamp so what I try to do is take the photo next to a window on a slightly overcast day, or a window that's in the shade and towards the end of the day. The important part is that you want indirect light. Putting the model on a sheet of paper and curving the sheet up against a wall (or bottle or whatever) helps keep your background clean. (If you care about that.) For being your first miniatures, I'd say they're pretty good. As you say, it takes practice. I've been painting on and off since 2001 and I'm still learning. It's all about stepping outside your comfort zone. (And asking for advice...)
  3. That's an incredibly good idea. Pity I didn't think of that. 😝
  4. These guys aren't in my pledge for the painting challenge for this month but are wholly done in January. Time for a bit of racism confession. I despise greenskins. I just think Malifaux would be a better setting without them. There's enough comic relief that we don't need stupid greenskins. I'd even like them better if they were still stupid rednecks but human. It's not rational, I just don't like them. That being said, Zoraida seems to have taken a liking to them and these particular ones have some uses in her crew. So without further ado, I give you my first (and hopefully last) greenskin models; Gautreaux Bokors.
  5. If you're still after them, I have then unopened in the box. What would you have to trade? Also, I'd have to check how much shipping is. Ps. I'm a fan of Dr. Hyde. 😝
  6. Sadly, I was only commenting on them, but I agree that they are gorgeous! 😉 @Burnin' Coal is the artist behind them. (Credit where credit's due!)
  7. I think they are watching the forums and social media and wallow in people's anguish. The kinetic energy of everyone's eye-twitching while waiting for the files are powering their servers.
  8. Overall l think you did well! If I can make one suggestion it's that it's a tiny bit bright. I always do a first glaze layer of a darker purple which gives it a bit of variance and makes it slightly darker.
  9. Haha, fair enough. Swearing and Vallejo Glaze Medium featured heavily in the painting of said Lampads as well. 😂
  10. I used to be the same, but then I realized it's a missed opportunity to paint. 😁
  11. I'd love to know how you painted the skin on the three rightmost ones. They're all gorgeous though.
  12. That checkered pattern on the shield... Really stunning work as always.
  13. Alright, here are my options. I think I like the bright marble the least. Though now I almost feel like I should try a white marble...
  14. So, after painting nearly exclusively Neverborn since my first crew, Seamus, I'm switching over to Resurrectionists again. My plan was to rather unoriginally do cobblestone/pavement bases but paint the lip rust, like my Killjoy. Then I had the idea to do a marble effect on the lip instead and now I can't make up my mind. I guess I'll just finish one of each for the Lampads and see which one I like best. Either way, I'd like to hear your opinions. First the look of the center of the base. It's not done, it'll have some gray highlights added to it. Next, the marble effect. Here in a medium dark gray. Could also do lighter or darker. Finally, Killjoy with his rust colored base lip.
  15. Hello, my name is Emil and I'm a hobby butterfly. I haven't finished my Nephilim yet. But I've finished Killjoy as seen in the monthly painting challenge thread and now these guys. Alt Reva made me do it...
  16. I didn't even think that far. Good thought.
  17. So, this month we're using M2E costs, right? 😯 Do we switch to M3E costs when the open beta starts or when it's properly released?
