  1. Hey Wyrdos, This week, when we asked Waldo what he’d like to reveal for Malifaux Third Edition, he rolled over and groaned, complaining that he’s had his fill of M3E. From the half-eaten Basse Core Boxes and sprues with imp slobber surrounding him, we wholeheartedly agree. Here’s to hoping he likes the taste of Tactics Tokens, because we’re diving back into The Other Side! So, this Wednesday, we’ve got not one, not two, but three reveals, starting with The Other Side’s upcoming Rules Manual. Included in the conveniently sized Rules Manual is everything you’ll need to know how to play the game without being bogged down with stories or unit cards. This handy-dandy softcover handbook will make sure that you’ll get any and all rules clarifications that might be had during the heat of battle at your local game store without having to lug around the giant (but infinitely awesome) hardcover Core Rulebook. For those who backed The Other Side on Kickstarter, the next two reveals might feel a little familiar, but to those who have just recently started fighting for glory this side of the Breach, these new faces will be welcome surprises. Trained by none other than Kirai Ankoku while he was still alive, Binh Nguyen is the spirit responsible for amassing the Court of Two’s ghost army by binding their souls before they permanently departed from this world. In life, he put his talents to use for his own personal gain, but his perspective has changed since his life was taken away from him. On the table, Binh Nguyen is a powerful champion for the Court of Two or any Malifaux-aligned Allegiance. Not only is he incredibly difficult to kill, he is also one of the few non-Commander units to have a Tactics value, making him well worth his scrip. Next up is Samantha Thrace, Captain of a special Guild unit who were tasked with analyzing the stranger things on Earth that might cause a headache (or decapitation, depending) for her allies on the battlefield. While what she found in her travels can only be discovered in the Trial by Fire story in the Core Rulebook, her unquestionable skill in uprooting problems just before they happen has value for anyone defending their homeland. In battle, like Binh, Thrace provides a Tactics Token to any Earth-aligned Allegiance willing to bring her on board. The combination of her being able to hand out Reinforcement Tokens while slicing through a fireteam with her Modified Axe makes her a formidable foe to be reckoned with, and that’s before she even flips to glory. You won’t have to wait long to get your hands on the bite-sized rulebook or these Champions, as they are marked to launch for a fall retail release!
  2. Hey Wyrdos, Are you a store owner? Do you want to know M3E's release schedule (or release date)? There's a ton of info in the latest Retailer Newsletter for you to sink your teeth into! You can find out M3E's release date and much, much more by following this link: https://www.wyrd-games.net/news/2019/4/29/wyrd-retailer-newsletter-launch-plans Enjoy!
  3. While Wyrd has been a part of Origins for the last several years, due to our busy development and targeted release schedule to ensure we bring Malifaux Third Edition to the masses, we will unfortunately not be returning to Origins this year. We're thankful for the fantastic community and friends that visit us each year and you can certainly plan on seeing us at next year's Origins!
  4. Both Vintage McMourning and Miss Terious will come with their associated M3E cards when purchased during the Easter Sale. The mistake was on our end, but has since been remedied.
  5. No new news on Bayou Bash, but it is still coming out. Some things just take longer than others is all. We'll have more updates as we get closer to release.
  6. Hey Wyrdos, We just got back from Adepticon and while we were gone, we found Waldo making a house of cards. Amazingly enough, it was in the shape of Nicodem’s mortuary. As soon as we told him that we were impressed, he dropped another house of cards on it, and then set them on fire. Huh, fitting. Anyway, now that we’re all out of cards in the office, we thought it might be an opportune time to release TWO new Fate Decks! And they’re available for print-on-demand on DriveThruRPG… RIGHT NOW! The first Fate Deck is none other than the Pixel Fate Deck! Take a trip down nostalgia lane to travel back in time (or forward in time, if you’re stuck in Malifaux…) to when the greatest in graphical technology was 16-bit sprites. You can get your hands on the Pixel Fate Deck for only $12.00 by following this link. The second Fate Deck is the Saloon Fate Deck, which was drawn by one of the community’s favorite fan artists, and we are excited to finally have it available. The artist took a fun and burlesque approach to some of Malifaux’s leading characters. You can find this mature-themed (as in not for the young or faint of heart) Saloon Fate Deck for only $12.00 by following this link. Both of these fantastic Fate Decks were made by members of our community; the Pixel Fate Deck was created by Milos Kostic and the Saloon Deck was created by Felis Ryltha. To get your hands on both of them, head over to DriveThruRPG.com. Expect to see more of these decks coming out of our vault in the future!
  7. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we found Waldo cleaning. Yes, cleaning. We couldn’t believe it either. As it turns out, when no one is around to watch the stuff you set on fire burn to ash, it isn’t nearly as much fun. With us at GAMA last week showing off some of the fantastic stuff we have in store for 2019, Waldo was driven to absolute boredom - to the extent that he resorted to cleaning up the place. But now that we’re back, he wanted to see some of the new stuff that we’re planning on for the future of Malifaux (before he sets it all on fire, of course). The beta for Malifaux Third Edition is coming to a close (finally!). As we’re wrapping up stats and abilities on some of your favorite models, we figured it would be a great time to show you what else will be coming alongside the release of Malifaux Third Edition. So, in addition to new boxes, sculpts, models, cards, rules, and ways to play, we are also releasing new Malifaux books. That’s right, books, as in plural. Many, many books. So many books that we might be building a book fort in the offices. One book per Faction will be hitting store shelves either at Malifaux Third Edition’s launch or shortly thereafter (we’ll be staggering book releases a tad, but don’t worry – all of the information you’ll need to play will be immediately available). Across all of the books, we’ll be covering new characters, art, bios, and stories (so many stories!). These stories will push the lore and world in new and exciting (sometimes scary) directions, further expanding what we’ve grown familiar. Dig deep enough into them and you’re sure to find a secret or seven along the way. Some are more obvious than others. So, this week, Waldo wanted to reveal just what those books will look like. Here are the covers of all seven Faction books! Above all else, though, the most important book to own is the rulebook, which will be available immediately upon Third Edition’s launch, either on our website for free or on store shelves in print. So that’s eight books in total! Now, with all of this “launch” and “release” talk, you might be wondering when. Well, wonder no more, because Malifaux Third Edition will be available… Next week, we’ll be at Adepticon, so Waldo will be too occupied keeping the office from setting itself on fire, so we’ll be giving him another week off. Once we get back, we’ll have more awesome stuff to show off and talk about! See you then.

  10. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we found Waldo rummaging through the M3E rulebook. At first, we got excited because we thought he was trying to learn the game, but as it turns out, the amount of ink each visual example requires makes the pages an impish delicacy. Maybe our Henchmen are brave enough to teach him how to play, but we’re not. We like our hands right where they are, thank you very much. Before he ate all of the pages, we couldn’t help but notice the stealth reveal of a Master’s new look in one of those examples. We figured that showing off what the rest of her art looks like is probably the right thing to do. So let’s take a look at the Ten Thunders’ new Oyabun, Misaki! When building a Misaki Crew, players will be focusing on dancing in the dark by utilizing stealth and movement Abilities that make Last Blossom models hard to see and hard to hit. The combination of Misaki’s Into Shadow and From Shadow Abilities allow her to hide from her opponent by Burying while simultaneously placing Destructible Concealing Shadow Markers on the table that (generally) only the other members of her Crew have the experience to see through. Other Last Blossom models are going to be utilizing those Shadow Markers in special ways, too. For example, not only can Ototo drop them, but if he’s also in line of sight of Misaki, he can create a pulse to hand out Slow (from his Action, The Storm is Coming), which will help to keep the enemies he wants nearby to stick around for a while. In addition, Minako Rei can summon Katashiro by discarding Shadow Markers (with her Create Katashiro Action), Yamaziko can draw cards and Pass Tokens on her Unworthy of Her Attention Trigger, Torakage can teleport to Shadow Markers and turn them into Scheme Markers (with the Ninja Vanish Action), and the Thunder Archers can bring the pain by handing out more damage to models that are lingering too close to those Shadow Markers (via their Shadow Pin Trigger). And that’s just the beginning of the synergies involved with Misaki and her Last Blossom Crew. To celebrate her new rank as Oyabun, we’ll be providing a wallpaper of Misaki Katanaka’s glorious new look, too! Next week, we’re letting Waldo rest a bit while we’re in Reno, visiting the fine folks at GAMA. Hopefully the office isn’t burned to the ground before we get back.
  11. The forums were recently updated since this post. Are you still experiencing this issue?
  12. Episode 100: http://www.breachsidebroadcast.com/e/tales-of-malifaux-100/ Wow, a hundred episodes already. To celebrate, we're running a contest! To enter, all you have to do is share the 100th episode of Breachside Broadcast on our Facebook page or retweet our tweet on Twitter! Good luck!
  13. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we didn’t find Waldo at all. Instead, we found a note in the break room fridge taped to some burnt leftovers that simply stated: “Due to the meaty-oak’er food in this here est-blabbish-mint, I have died. And in the afterlife, I joined a gang. Be back soon. Smooches. – W.” So while Waldo is gone learning how to cook from a group of miscreants, we were inspired by his new aspirations to reveal a new model in Malifaux Third Edition: the Gokudo! The Gokudo are a group of criminals and assassins that work exclusively for Yan Lo, under one of his false identities, Wei Lu. Unbeknownst to the Gokudo themselves, they are descendants to those who swore fealty to Wei Lu centuries earlier, and those oaths are what permanently bind them to the sorcerer’s magic, both in life and in death. On the table, Yan Lo can use the Gokudo as conduits to bring back his ancient allies that have fallen in battle. With the Ancient Bloodline Ability, these Ancestors come back even more powerful while simultaneously allowing the Gokudo to haunt and torment their opponents, even in the afterlife. While they’re in play, these subservient vessels are difficult to deal with, as their Hard to Kill and Face in the Crowd Abilities both make them difficult to take down without taking the appropriate measures first. In addition to being a pain to take out, the Gokudo can also assist Yan Lo in keeping a steady hand of cards with their Know the Warrior Ability, which allows them to draw a card if they Cheat Fate while having Focused. Their Bonus Action, Risky Maneuver, makes sure that they can get that much needed Focused without having to use up one of their Actions to Concentrate, which always helps, too. In addition to being difficult to remove from the game, the Gokudo also pack a punch (quite literally) with their Staggering Punch Action. If there’s an enemy that’s either difficult to see or hard to reach, the Gokudo can also toss a Shuriken their way. On both Attack Actions, the Gokudo have the Marked by the Ancestors Trigger. When a Target gains the Adversary (Ancestor) Condition, all models with the Ancestor Keyword receive a + to opposed duels against that Target until the End Phase, which is a great way to ensure that your Crew hits their enemies where it counts. In Waldo’s note that he left behind, he left behind a little treat: a mobile wallpaper!
  14. We still have a lot of slots to fill. Make sure to reach out to us if you're able to volunteer at Adepticon!
  15. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we found Waldo on the roof sleeping like a baby. A snoring, farting, giggling devil baby, but a baby all the same. He was surrounded in shredded M2E books that were being used as bedding and Teddy plush prototypes that were just a little too creepy to go into production (yep, even for us). He must have been dreaming about robbing someone at gunpoint, because he was pointing finger guns and murmuring “pew pew” in between snorts and chortles. Rather than wake him up, we decided to enjoy the peace and quiet by revealing another new look for an old favorite. Sting. Beck. Cher. Bono. Banksy. There are only a handful of people in the world who are recognized enough without needing a last name. Hans, the best sniper to the highest bidder, is one such person. If you want the job done, and the job done right, you just need to say his name. And provide a hefty amount of scrip beforehand, of course. Regardless of the Outcast Crew that you’re building, it’s almost always worth considering putting aside the right amount of coin (or Soulstones) for our favorite hired gun. With his Advanced Sights and Sniper Abilities, his accuracy and range are considered the best in the business (as long as he’s willing to Focus enough before the shot). Because of his knack of blending in with his surroundings with the Disguised Ability, he’s going to be tough for melee beaters to Charge in and wreak havoc. It doesn’t matter if he’s hired to take out a human, Neverborn, or spectral apparition, either, as his Ruthless Ability helps to ensure that he’s always on target. If you’re on the opposing end of Hans’ rifle, you’ll likely be lights out before you even know where the shot came from. While his Clockwork Rifle is used by some other gunmen in Malifaux, only Hans is able to utilize it to the fullest extent. With four Triggers that allow him to handle just about any situation, Hans is able to end a life quickly or Slow them down before a quick escape. If Hans is in a tight spot and the situation calls for a more tactful approach, he can let out a Warning Shot to give his target Distracted and possibly Stunned, which can essentially shut down an enemy’s effectiveness as he gets resituated for the next assault. Even the most experienced assassins sometimes have to reference their own ethics and rules manuals, though, which is why his Bonus Action, Reference the Field Guide, gives him the opportunity to add any suit to his final duel totals for the rest of his Activation, allowing him to gain the upper hand each time he lines up a shot. Check out the new model for Hans in M3E! Next week, we’ll be signing a contract for some protection in the Little Kingdom.

  18. Hey Wyrdos, We found Waldo playing in the trash this week. Somehow, it didn’t surprise us in the slightest. What did surprise us, however, is the rare gem that he found among the garbage. After pushing away old pizza boxes and coffee tins (and a bottle of whiskey or two – don’t ask me how they got there), our favorite mischievous imp stumbled upon something that is only ever found on beaches and in cheesy 80’s songs: a message in a bottle. So, this week, we’re opening the bottle and unraveling the notes in this unique short story about a Crow Runner in The Other Side. You can either visit the website here or directly download the PDF by clicking on the link below. Enjoy! WaldosWeekly_0213.pdf
  19. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we found Waldo at the cemetery in the dead center of town. Luckily for us, he wasn’t digging up coffins or turning over tombstones; we found him burying company secrets. After we begrudgingly helped him pack on the rest of the dirt, he finally agreed to reveal a new look for an old favorite. Speaking of open graves, this week we are talking about our favorite gravedigger, Mortimer. The last time we saw him, he was eating an egg salad sandwich. Nothing else of importance really happened in that story. No toppled buildings, no judgement calls, no dead necromancers… Mostly just a story about a guy eating a sandwich. Since that sandwich, Mortimer’s moved up in the world of Malifaux, but not without remembering his roots first. Mortimer has a remarkably rich and (egg salad) flavored history in Malifaux lore, reaching as far back as first edition. With his updated look in M3E, we wanted to put that history front and center, which is why his art direction is a nod to his metallic past. Now that he is no longer being strung along by his former employer (what was his name again?), Mortimer is now free to work with whomever he chooses. With the Versatile Characteristic, this loquacious gravedigger can lend any Resurrectionist Master a hand (or a shovel) without an additional Cost. If you want to make sure your opponent thinks twice before they Interact with a Strategy Marker, his Chatty Ability makes him a worthwhile choice in just about any Crew. He’s sturdier than most, too. While some might chalk that up to him not being a member of the walking dead, his Regeneration +1, Manipulative, and Hard to Kill Abilities help keep him on the table. His iconic Shovel makes its return, but now, in addition to his built-in Dismember Trigger, Mortimer can show off that he’s been working out in his free time with the Knock Aside Trigger, which lets him Push his target 4” in any direction. Whether it’s his bad breath or the smell from the company he keeps, Mortimer’s Decay Action can Blast his target (even from Weak damage) and give them Injured +1 in the process. Speaking of smells, he can also point out a nearby enemy to his friendly Undead associates for an enticing meal with the Fresh Meat Action. You can give an old Mortimer a new suit, but you can’t take away his grubby skullduggery. His Bonus Action, Grave Robber, places a Corpse Marker anywhere within range, which can help multiple Resurrectionists reach victory. Sometimes, robbing corpses can strike gold (or bone) when the Unexpected Zombie Trigger resolves, as it can summon a Mindless Zombie nearby. Now that there isn’t another mouth to feed, it looks like Mortimer’s been eating pretty well! Check out what Mortimer will look like on the table in the image below. Next week, we’ll be stepping back through the Breach to take another look at The Other Side!
  20. Hey Wyrdos, The Other Side's first FAQ and Errata document is now available. You can find the files either in this thread below or on our website. The focus with this document was not to buff or nerf (though some adjustments were made), but rather to add further clarification to some confusing or unclear wording. Errata cards and rulebook will be available on our website (for free!) very soon. In addition, we also released The Other Side's Tournament document, which is available below or on our website. If you're looking for a competitive experience in The Other Side, then look no further! It's time to see if you've got what it takes to either take over London or protect it. Lastly, you also can find the slight adjustments we made to the Tides of Battle 1.1 document (specifically the Garrison system) below or on our website. 21. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we had some trouble finding Waldo. We looked everywhere: the ash piles, the sewers, the warehouse rafters… Of all places, we found him beneath the conference table, eating coffee pods and beta files. If it wasn’t for the smell, I’m not sure we would have ever found him. We’re still recovering some of the lost data. Ironically enough, we did manage to find one of the most well-hidden characters in all of Malifaux, and this week, we’re going to talk about what we found. Lucius’ eyes and ears span across all of Malifaux, but even he has his blind spots, especially on Earth. As soon as he caught wind about forgotten Neverborn meeting in the forests and caves across Europe, he had to know more. But with Marlow taking power after the last Governor-General’s near ascension, the mimic’s grip on climbing the Guild ladder has weakened, so he has requested that his most trusted and unknown agent return to directly aid him once more. Agent 46 is an unnatural menace that strikes from the shadows; both his Stealth and Inhuman Physiology Abilities ensure that he is difficult to see and to hit. When we sat down to think about the types of characters that Lucius surrounds himself with and trusts, the vision became clear relatively quickly. A shadowy figure that no one has seen before because Lucius hadn’t willed it was a more than fitting approach when introducing this new, unseen assassin. Even if his enemies don’t always know where he is, Lucius, always does, which is reflected in Agent 46’s Following Orders Ability. Lucius, similar to Second Edition, is still ordering around his Crew, but he now has a surgical knife in the form of Agent 46 to take care of his… problems. Agent 46’s Following Orders Ability helps emphasize his role in the Elite Crew while simultaneously keeping cards in his hand. This highly mobile assassin has the tools he needs to get the job done. By the time his Twirling Blades are cutting through his target’s flesh, he is likely already attacking another nearby enemy with his Pouncing Strike Trigger. One of the most understated and valuable Actions in Malifaux Third Edition is Analyze Weakness, which Agent 46 utilizes to study his opponent before he strikes, giving him and his allies the opportunity to take down even the tankiest of targets. If he has trouble finding vulnerabilities, he’ll just take a closer look with the On Your Heels Trigger. Agent 46 rarely shows his true colors (or form), but sometimes he just can’t help but Mimic his target, which is exactly what his Bonus Action does. Depending on the situation or opponent, Agent 46 (along with the other Mimics in Lucius’ Crew) brings a ton of flexibility to each game. Next week, Waldo gets in the dirt to dig up an old friend.
  22. This is great to hear. Thank you. I was actually a contributing editor and writer on TOS, though I didn't do much in regards to design on the game at the time. For the future of TOS, Matt has been plugging away at The Other Side's design for some time now. So far so good.
  23. Hey Wyrdos, This week, we found out that Waldo actually eats more than just office supplies (who knew?) when we found him barbequing all of our unannounced alt models in the warehouse. Strangely enough, the smell of burnt plastic and spices made us think about one of our favorite new models. Hopefully it wasn’t the fumes. Looks like there wasn’t enough food to go around at the last bash; Lenny must’ve hired a catering service. This week, we’re taking a close look at Som’er’s favorite midnight snack: the Spit Hog! When designing a new model, we always start with a basic concept and a goal in mind. In this case, we wanted to go with something fun and exciting that gave the Big Hats more survivability without necessarily bringing brute force to the table. Staying alive isn’t normally the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Gremlins (wrestling crocs before learning to walk comes to mind well before that). But even pigbrained moonshiners have to eat, and now Som’er is bringing his dinner along into battle. Gremlins have to do things their own special way, and healing is no exception. For the fellow Big Hats, the Spit Hog is essentially a mobile meal, providing Heals to nearby friendly models with his “Food’s Up!” Ability and more. If there’s a fight breaking out in a particularly dense part of the Bayou, that much pork (50mm of it!) can get in the way pretty easily, which is why we implemented the Hoist the Hog Ability to allow friendly models to move through the Spit Hog. Enemy models will just have to sit back and smell its roasted glory. If sitting back wasn’t good enough for the opposing team and the Spit Hog somehow falls in battle (or if Lenny gets particularly hungry), the Gremlin underneath all of that weight picks up a Boomstick and joins the fray with the Demise (I’m Done With This) Ability. When developing Crews and their associated Abilities in M3E, finding a focus that fits both mechanically and thematically is always an interesting challenge. Som’er and his Big Hats, however, came pretty naturally; the idea of Gremlins quitting their job in the middle of battle while swarming the table with waves of Bayou Gremlins has been Som’er since the start. The Spit Hog isn’t just a hot meal passively waiting to be eaten on the table, though. With the Smack with a Roasted Pig melee Action, he can play a more active role in a Crew, healing or dealing damage as it pleases. The sweet smell of freshly salted pork also makes it more al-Lure-ing (read the back of its card above to understand this deliciously layered pun). Waldo’s full up on puns and pork this week. But before we go, check out what the Spit Hog will look like on the table below! Next week, we’ll be shining a light on a shadowy figure under Lucius’ thumb.
  24. Hey Wyrdos, This week, Waldo hung out in the design room. He put on some glasses, wore a fake beard, and said “feel bad moment” over and over again until the words no longer held meaning. As soon as he tried putting Paralyze back into the game, we knew it was time for Waldo to take a break and go burn something down in the warehouse. Now that Waldo is off setting old misprints aflame, we’ve got time to talk about the important stuff: the Open Beta is now LIVE! After months of testing behind closed doors and in hidden forums, we’re finally ready to reveal everything that makes Malifaux Third Edition awesome. But nothing is final until we hit print, so we want to hear everyone’s feedback about M3E before we’re ready to officially launch. Help us shape the game you love by playing and participating in the Open Beta! To access the Open Beta, you’ll need to first make a forum account. Once you’ve taken care of that, head over to the “M3E OPEN BETA” forum. That’s where you’ll find all of the files for the rules and every model in M3E. To make sure that your opinions are heard, please discuss your excitement (and concerns, of course) with the rest of the community in those forums. We’ll have more information and instructions in those forums, such as where to include Battle Reports and specific types of feedback. Throughout the playtest, we’ll be creating a series of polls to see where the whole community stands on certain subjects, so keep an eye out for those, as well. Remember: our focus with the Open Beta is to fine-tune, tweak, and balance. We won't be making any sweeping changes that are not absolutely needed. But for now, make your way to the forums, download the files, build your Crews, and most importantly, play some games! We’ll see you there!
