  1. May I suggest this option for a 50 SS Crew Lucius --4ss + Secret Assets + Legalese Guild Lawyer - 6 ss Captain Dashel - 9 ss Guild Rifleman - 5 ss Guild Rifleman - 5 ss Guardian - 8 ss Hunter - 7 ss Hunter - 7ss Use the hunters on the flanks and be sure to the rest of the crew fairly tight. Most opponents will think twice before charging anything with 14 inches of those riflemen thanks to their Stand and Fire ability. The Guardian is there to keep everyone alive and as a fall-back bodyguard should Lucius need it. The Captain is there for his Fire ability which gives positive attack flips to the riflemen and because Ryle cost 1 ss too much to be included here. The lawyer is there to help with horror duels for Lucius' Commanding Presence ability. The hunters are there as scheme runners - very brutal scheme runners. Lucius is there because he's cool.
  2. May I suggest that you go with McMourning as Master & use Grimwell as a his henchman instead of Sebastian - you can, of course, play as Guild McMourning using either Grimwell or Sebastian, but Grimwell has the advantage of that extra walk action - combine that with "uppers" from the nurses and you can get an amazing amount of movement out of Grimwell (I call this trick a "House-call"). Since you have the starter set, I strongly suggest that you consider integrating the orderlies (whom the poster above correctly pointed out are amazing scheme runners) Nurse Heartsbane, & Dr. Grimwell into McMourning's Guild crew.
  3. He looks like Phil Collins. True, I might have inhaled some glue when putting that model together....
  4. Greeting from another newbie has has received a tremendous amount of useful advice from the folks on this board ("DO NOT stick your head out of the window on a moving train" being the most valuable - if not a tad off-topic - so far). My advice would be to get a Hoffman box. Not for Hoffman so much (he's kinda always struck me as the Phil Collins of Malifaux) but for the Guardian, 2 Hunters, and Watcher that box contains. All of theses models come in handy when playing as The Guild. The Guardian is a fierce beatstick of an enforcer with a 3" melee rang. The Hunters and the Watcher make great scheme runners (if you can keep the Watcher alive past turn 3). Also, i second the comment about picking up a Ryle. While McMourning is a lot of deadly fun, the problem is that you can't really use the models in his box with any Guild crews (McMourning can take the nurses, Sebastien, and that chihuahua that has to be assembled under an electron microscope when he plays as Guild if you use "On The Clock"). I'm not saying not to get a McMourning some day, it's just that right now might not the best time (true love waits...until after the autopsy). Although I'm probably the biggest (only?) fan of Lucius on the board, I agree with everyone that he's not the easiest Master to start with. Trust me; I started with him. I hope this was helpful.
  5. Has anyone tried dropping a Ronin into a Guild crew as Merc? If so, I'd be interested to hear how/if it worked out. Thanks.
  6. I want to second the utility of the Guardians. I've been using one to keep my Riflemen alive. The "Protect" zero action is highly effective and the flatblade/shield combo has been mighty deadly. Just make sure you keep your Guardian within 4" of your Riflemen & Dashel (or whatever guardsman combo you're using).
  7. I can't believe that I missed two of these (31 & 32). Please start listing these on the main page when they're published as they are always highly enjoyable and very well done.
  8. Since he's called Zipp, and he can fly, this will become a subtle way of telling someone that their fly is unzipped.
  9. Lucius. Just look at how poorly the other Masters dress. Also there's the perk of always having your lawyer around.
  10. I was preparing myself to be disappointed (because I'm an American and it's my God-given right to judge things before I know about them...now git off mah lawn, hippie!) but I actually don't think I could be happier with Nellie. Thematically, she's close-to-perfect as The Guild would be in control of the media (except for the fanzines). Yes, she's supposed to exemplify "the pen is mightier than the sword", but there's nothing wrong with that. The Guild has two three very "killy" models (Sonnia, Lady J, and Lucius...just kidding; it's Perdita), but if there's one faction that doesn't need to advertise their slaughter abilities, it's The Guild. That's why we get to chose from Bureaucrats, Office Workers, and Coroners (and now Reporters) as well as the expected Law Enforcement...and the occasional treasure hunter. As for Nellie's stats, Of all the newly released Masters. with the possible exception of Reva, Nellie has the most interesting stat card. It's impossible not to be intrigued by "Revisionist History". imagine having a Red Joker in your hand and not being able to use it against an opponent. Also, she has a hat. And haven't we been asking for more hats?
  11. I'm sold (You had me at "Revisionist History"). I'll be making an addition to my "Owned Masters" list.
  12. Lucius. His playing style reminds me of a Roman general (I came to Malifaux after decades of regular wargamming): "I'm just going to hang back here and hand out orders. If you do happen to get killed, please be so kind as to not bleed on my expensive clothing. Thanks." And look at all of the other Master's box sets: Guns; Swords; Fangs... now look at Lucius': Lawyers (Yes, it also comes with Guild Guards & Captain Dashel, but I ditched those for 2 Hunters and a Ryle). Anybody can charge into battle with a couple of Ronin, but it takes a special kind of Master to bring their lawyer along. And a few words in defense of McMourning: Guild McMourning (take "On The Clock"*, so that you can add the nurses to your crew) is an insane ball of fun to roll out. He ignores armor and has Hard to Wound, which are two good reasons to give him a try. * Card includes the tactical action "On Order of the Governor's Secretary...I Love Saying That"
  13. I spotted a quill, so I'm going with some sort of aristocrat writer...not unlike the portrayal of de Sade in "Quills". Maybe we'll get to meet the author of "The Philosophy of Uncertainty"?
  14. First, let me just say Welcome to the Right Side of the Law. I'm a Lucius fan, so you'll need to keep that in mind when weighing my advice, but as a solid Starter Master, I don't link you can beat Lady Justice. She plays well without upgrades and her box comes with with The Judge & 3 Death Marshalls. Toss in a Peacekeeper and a rifleman or two and you're good to go.
  15. Not much of one that I can find (I'm starting to think that I might be it). Redcap's Corner (two locations: 4812 Baltimore Ave & 3850 Lancaster Ave) used to have a skirmish game night (I believe it was Tuesday), but they seem to have discontinued that. Now it's mostly Magic & Warhammer. https://www.redcapscorner.com/events/ Also mostly Magic & Warhammer is Reliquary Records (AKA "Digital Ferret" AKA "Digital Underground) at 732 South 4th Street. https://www.facebook.com/digitalferret/ I'm doing my best to try to get them to start hosting a Malifaux night. So, if you hear of anything, please let me know because, while you're only visiting, I have to live here. Thanks,
  16. Excellent sculpt combined with interesting academic/jack-of-all-trades qualities. I look forward to fighting him! Can't wait to see the Master with the quill.
  17. On my way to check it out. I really enjoy that site!
  18. If it hasn't already been mentioned, you might want to pick up an M2E Guild Arsenal Deck, just in the cards with some of your older models are outdated.
  19. Tattoo-worthy render. I'm hoping she'll have a sin-eater for a henchman.
  20. Always make sure that you have at least one stone left going into that last round. And it's also worth considering ditching Dashel for a Ryle. If you could've stoned for initiative (and we were all stoned for initiative during our college years) and swapped out Lucius for Ryle, his hydraulic punch might've made the difference. Then again, you had a good game! And a person should never let their desire to win get in the way of fun.
  21. I'd say that one of the best bits of advice I've gotten about running a Lucius crew was to add at least one hunter from the Hoffman box. I wish I would've paid more attention to the suggestion about picking up a Death Marshall & Witchling Stalkers as yours seem to have done pretty much what they were made to do. I'm starting to think that running a gunline (yes, i went for that as well) is most effective against an opponent fielding a Neverborn crew.
  22. Sorry. In retrospect, that was probably the worst possible way for me to express my curiosity about the new Masters.
  23. Agreed. I was just getting used to the current crop. I wonder if any of the old Masters (no, I don't mean 16th Century Flemish painters), will be phased out over time?
