  1. It is hard to say without more information. Killing opposing models helps, forcing situations where your opponent must activate key models early, focusing on my schemes and the strategy. Honestly this is just something that happens, but it is not an impassible advantage. I won a game last weekend where by the end of it I was out activated 6-1 but due to schemes and positioning most of my opponents ap were wasted.
  2. Sure if those pop up it helps a bit, but I find both of those not all that much fun at low ss due to low model count of most crews.
  3. I always consider it, but rarely end up taking it. I always feel that unless I have activation control it is not amazing.
  4. Yup, tons of fun. Great turn out , great games, well run. Looking forward to your Connecticon events.
  5. I've never seen cojo as fast. I find him very situational, in scheme marker strategies, or turf war he is pretty good. Otherwise he is so so. I live him as a myranda shape change more than a hire. Imbued protection adds some survivability, but at that point he is a 10 point model, and he just does not do enough unless schemes abound.
  6. agree I sometimes use domain for things like turf war and bring things like the rouge necromancy the debuff WP to make it effectively terrifying 15. But it is usually not the best idea for other strategies.
  7. See I feel like game length between 35 and 59 is not that big a difference, I also feel like you end up making tough choices even at 50ss. I find that it makes games less interactive because you can play around your opponent. Unless they are summoning, at which point the game is not short. Sure you can still have some fun...but as a standard play level for a group I feel it is less functional.
  8. Trail for the 8" walk and extra damage is typically better. But domain is good if you want Marcus to be in a supporting role using myranda for +flips to enhanced defense, using howl to buff/debuff willpower, law of meat to lock down models etc. but it is a trickier style.
  9. Because he has a great adaptable hiring pool? I almost never hire a Cerberus, usually myranda becomes one, but I find them to have trouble in many strategies and schemes. But then I value having more activations than a few powerful models. I just find the cat to have a big target on it and it is quite pricey.
  10. Play Ramos, summon spiders, profit. I really don't understand the push to keep games smaller for long periods I time. The difference in expense between 35 and 50 is small, and the game functions much better at 50ss As for models like Howard I think he is too expensive at 35 ss. As he would be a full third of the crew an if killed is a huge loss. Essentially 35 is great for ressers, Ramos, and Dreamer...summonera rule.
  11. I love using myranda with her. She is fairly dangerous herself, add in prompting her for Reactivate then sacrificing her prior to dying to summon a beast to suit your situation. Throw in that prompting a Cerberus is potentially the best prompt I have seen, if you have high tomes in hand, prompt to attack and maul away.
  12. I feel that you can be pretty competitive with only one crew box and building around that. I place much higher value on familiarity with your models than model choice. I would look at the strategies and schemes while considering your crew box and develop a plan about what models will help you complete those. While you won't always be optimal, you can always be effective. Keep in mind that there are basically 3 types of strategies: ones where killing models is important, ones where surviving in the center of the table is important, and ones where mobility/board control are important. The consider that line in the sand is always available as well as 2 of :assasinate, protect territory, breakthrough, and body guard. So having options to complete those a schemes will help.
  13. Yeah in corner it is far less good, in any of he others there are reasons to use it.
  14. Again it seems playstyle dependent, in non corner deployments I see it as a redeploy not a retreat. I can push over to one side of the table. Have the enemy respond. Then shift back to the other leaving them out of position. I like the options it presents but that is just how I like to play with flexibility rather than a single game plan.
  15. It doesn't conflict with reactivate, you take it during your second activation. I like having options when I play so I like having EJ. It allows Tara to move quite away sometimes and catch the opponent out of position. Also stealing an action from a burried model can be useful. But it all comes down to playstyle I think. Though deployment zone does matter as corner is fa worse than any other set up, and close is better, both simply being a function of the area in which she can be placed.
  16. @AOS- looks pretty good, not sure I'd go with skin walker on myranda as I like to be able to control when and where she is used. I might drop that and a raptor for another moleman but otherwise looks ok.
  17. Use the raptor with practiced production to drop the markers
  18. You seem to be lacking in cheap scheme runners. I would probably drop the Cerberus and Cojo, in favor of a bunch of scheme oriented models. I would also rather see imbued energies on Myranda, than Marcus or the cat. Given what you listed that you own I would probably run. Marcus -trail of gods Myranda-imbued energies Razorspine Cerberus -imbued energies Silurid Then possibly more upgrades on Marcus, maybe imbued energies, or feral and howl, or arcane reservoir. You really need to invest in molemen and or canine remains as I would probably taken those over the Cerberus, and possibly the Silurids as well.
  19. I play Marcus and find him to be pretty good, if you use lots of scene runners with a couple heavy hitters. Using things like molemen and canine remains to grab markers and Myranda, Marcus, and razorspines to deny.
  20. I find it interesting that your argument for premeasuring is based on some real world ideal of needing to know distances. Bullets don't stop at a specific distance, if I am 1 foot further than my range of accuracy I don't automatically miss. That said a lack of premeasuring heavily favors models with longer ranges, and hurts those that need melee as if you declare that a charge fails if you are out of range (a stupid thing about non-premeasuring, If I decide to run at you I don't suddenly realize that I cannot make it there, and stand around doing nothing.), now you have wasted 2 AP and in most cases an entire models activation, where a shooting model maybe wastes one. Also if you have a long range model you can use its firing to "premeasure" which is also dumb and gamey. Furthermore, lack of premeasuring simply means that you prize the skill of estimating distances and paying attention to other measurments (my opponent shoots a 12" gun and is just out of range now I know my range...makes no real life sense either). SImply put, premeasuring to me makes way more sense in how things actually occur (no magic stopping bullets are fired, no models stand around dumbfounded when they cannot reach their target). To me it sounds like you like the gotcha effect when people miss their estimates on distance. To me it detracts from tactical play, and is often emersion breaking. I look at it this way the models know their effective ranges and would not choose to take actions that would fail. The player is not said model.
  21. I've been for other games in the past and may still go, hat said being a morning person (I work early) 4am drunken board games don't happen and playing that late is a bit of a turn off for me, as the vendor hall is not something I'm interested in really, I may play some other games and what not....more just voicing a concern that no malifaux events run earlier, and some overlap during the late slot. Which also means missing out on goo go dinner with friends and such which is a draw for me at these events He biggest thing for me right now is does the schedule make me want to pay for multiple days and hotel room nights...I was a definite yes prior to seek the schdule, now I am a maybe and it will Come down to finances and can I afford this and other events. I'm sure if I go it will be fun...I love playing the game and templecon has been enjoyable in the past,,,,but with other conventions demanding money....I'm just a maybe on it mostly due to the event schedule (not everyone is a night person).
  22. Why are all the events so late....having them run that late is a it turn off for me actually. On the fence about what I want to do given the schedule. Most events seem to be Friday and Saturday, but they are all so late it will require 2 nights in a hotel rather than one or none. Knowing cons maybe that is the only time tables were available...but it makes it much less attractive. Especially when nothing is happening earlier in the day for malifaux.
  23. I usually only use it turn 1 to get 2 or three doves, but it provides options sometimes prompt is not the best option in a given situation.
  24. Yeah I would mostly summon doves not hire them. That said if find summoning a few early in to be super helpful. Getting positive flips is nice, potentilla pulse damage is also decent. But mostly just having an extra activation can be huge especially if you hire some heavy hitters.
  25. It is hard to say with limited information. Colette is good at giving ap to other models and scheme marker tricks. I find using doves to buff friendly models to be useful. My best advice is tithing trough how you are going to score vp during the game, and prior accordingly.
