  1. that would be that one right: http://wyrd-games.net/community/files/file/97-wyr20507-hannah/
  2. you are right. I'll try to fix this when I get around to doing the highlights.
  3. Of course, sorry for all the tears that might have caused -> edited.
  4. I particularly like the flail and the paintjob on it, really cool. Very inspirational piece, thank you for sharing! EDIT: okay, I cannot resist: She is freaking huge *run*
  5. Good looking crew. While I'm not currently planning to get the box (still many Guild and Neverborn things to paint first... And I know a missis that would hate to have to look at the abominations) I'd love to get the dreamy looking waif in the back row. She looks ace for a little conversion. From looking at the pictures I can't quite tell the quality of the face of her, though. Are the eyes well defined or mere dents in her skull?
  6. Well, maybe not entirely suitable, but I love the model and if you fancy a female austringer and are happy to do a little conversion and green stuffing: Behold Una, the Falconer from Hordes (Privateer Press) else, yeah, I guess the multipart kits would be a good guess. Or take the new female guild guard, remove the pistol hand and replace it with a glove + falcon taking off.
  7. The little steam trunk standin looks cute Can't remember having seen that one before, may I ask what model it is? Also, cool idea with Ms. Von Schill!
  8. "Huggy" is Hungering Darkness. He got nicknamed to match his cuddly, non-threatening looking mini. Also, agree on Doppelganger (always ), Depleted and Tots, depending on the job.
  9. The minis, the snippets of background story, the art, the characters, the cards, seeing what other people come up with - this as a whole all interweaves and gives me the impression of a rich, diverse and unique setting that I feel comfortable to explore and express myself in. As most of my hobby time goes into painting, reading, writing and drawing, I enjoy that the setting, while still being inspirational and dense, has loose boundaries and not much of a "canon" to adhere to. That and that the minis are good quality and fun to work with
  10. Thank you for the kind offer, prof_bycid - I've also found small mirror pieces at the craft store and I agree they are indeed to thick to look right, sadly. Especially since you still have to add some sort of frame to it. I went with mirror foil, for anyone interested in the result, you can find it in my painting thread: http://wyrd-games.net/community/topic/102009-jotuns-wyrd-paintlings-feedback-welcome/?p=782000 Some pluses and minuses on mirror foil for anybody wanting to do the same: The one has a PET covering over the chromium (?) sheet. + Easy to cut and work with simple tools + bendable, so may be suitable for uneven surfaces + lightweight (no tipping of the mini) - easily (and I mean really really easily) scratched as the plastic takes virtually no pressure to leave a mark with anything harder than the PET. - same goes for plastic cement. You go anywhere close with it and the surface is corroded. - only sold in large sheets, so you spend 25 bucks (~16 £) but will only need a tiny part of it.
  11. Wow, thank you all for all the love for the little lady Looking at it now, I see that I forgot the highlighting on the mirror frame entirely - things like that always happen. I get caught in some details and loose the ability to see what's still missing @zFiend, McMold: thank you very much @ArgentBadger: You sure may. And yes it is quite washed out, the back was particularly hard to take a photo of and I eventually gave up . I may try to get a better shot once I finished and coated her. @Viruk: Sure, please do, glad you like it.
  12. Second Hand Clothing "May I help you?" Alaya asked when the elderly lady entered the store. "I am looking for a gown for the the governor's anniversary ball, my dear.", the woman replied, smiling at Alaya, "Something with a fresh, vivid look, something with a little touch of youthful lightness." "This is a second hand store, I am afraid we do not..." "Oh, but you do, love", the old lady interrupt Alaya, still smiling, "I am particularly fond of that little dress of yours." So, that's the doppelganger (for now, still have to coat it with varnish and maybe fix some little things. Might still add some freehand to the mirror, we'll see. She now has to sit on the shelve for some days until I decide what she needs ) She was a pain to take pictures of, with my experience and setup at least, so you'll have to make do with what's here Anyways, some notes on the mini: I like the more gracious, less gory look of the new mini compared to the old one. I also like the covering cloth, but didn't want her to just be covering her breasts as if she was embarrassed that someone caught her mid-change - that would be a very human notion which does not fit an alien being. So I went down the road of her trying on a new dress, giving the pose a different purpose. Enjoy, thoughts and comments are welcome
  13. you got a point there. The mini will be standing in front, so I can't avoid using a real mirror. Anything painted on will look odd from all but one angle. Mirror foil maybe? - I'll check the hardware store tomorrow and see whether that might be something. Maybe they also sell little mirror shards for decoration.
  14. Like the ideas, I will doodle a bit in my sketchbook over the holidays and try to work with different colors. And that 19th century scary thing you found turns out to be a device used in asylums, used to keep patients in bed ("Utica crib"). Since I read about that Neverborn/Guild asylum crew that was apparently announced, I might end up doing something with it - can't wait until to get those
  15. Dear fellow brush wizards For the mini I'm currently working on I plan to have a mirror on the base. However, I have not painted a mirror before and would like to draw from your expertise. I currently see 2-3 options: 1) darker grey (or color of choice) on one side and lighter on the other like when painting an orb but then instead of the highlight dots a whiteish light streak across the surface. 2) Sky-earth non metallic metal (would have to do some testing first, don't have experience with that) 3) cutting the internal of the mirror from a CD or so and actually have a mirroring surface (guess that will look weird in the context of the mini, so I'd rather not do that) Does anyone have tips, things to consider? If you have a great tutorial or reference work I'm very interested, too. Thanks!
  16. I wouldn't overthink that case Maybe he had a bad day. Maybe you just happend to be the third person to point that out to him when he was actually very happy with his flower pattern cloth or whatever and he just snapped. Also remember that he does not hear or see you say it, he just reads a line of text. Much of how the meaning of what we say is transported by the tone, gestures and so on. Try reading your line about the cloth in a snippy voice and you'll see. (smart-alec (?) don't know the word in english) Also, sentence-wise "however" overthrows whatever you said before the "however". So probably he read: "nice cloth, however that is not what you were supposed to be painting"
  17. @KMDL: You are very welcome to share your thoughts I actually was wondering whether I should have done the crib in a different color once everything was assembled (the colors are sligthly more distinct in real life, but still actually brown in brown in brown). My girlfriend would have liked it to be white when she saw the picture, but I suck at shading white and feel that it might be kind of overpowering. What color would you have done the crib in? - Also yeah, maybe a stone or carpet floor would have done the trick. Need to think about that
  18. @Ikvar: No it was not a reaction to you tagging your thread, I'm not judging that. It was more generally that I think "Here's a new picture please criticize it" is not really an option to do on every post repeatedly without sounding overly eager. So your tag is maybe the way to go
  19. Asking for feedback too offensively is also maybe a bit much for others, maybe some just like to have a look and say if they like something and not give an in depth analysis of the color scheme used and improvements that could be made. If we assume the casusal gamer does not want crittique, then said person maybe also doesn't want to give it but still just say if he likes something. Or maybe these people dont dare to give a critical feedback because they feel their painting standard is way below that of the person asking for feedback. If the basecoat-wash painter gave you a feedback on your painting style, would you appreciate it? Or would you dismiss it thinking "what does he know about painting"... I for example would love to get constructive feedback on my work. I dont have any close friends painting, so whatever I come up with is what I teach myself and lern from looking at other people work. I also love a constructive discussion. Still, I'm always hesitant to give a crtitical feedback to the top painters here, like Mako, SC, Viruk and others because their level is above mine. I also dont want to talk others into giving me feedback, as it takes quite a lot of time to write a feedback and people should feel like doing so. For some of us, english is not our mother language so it takes even longer to compose something we think is polite, fluent and contains everything we wanted to say. So yeah... maybe a little tag (feedback welcome) or something might be an idea, just inviting others to give feedback if they feel like doing so. Also, just asking a specific question like Ikvar did on his Graves today is probably a good approach.
  20. Imo the issue with Gracie was (guess that's part of what Math said) that she is quite a busy mini as she is. Given her stubby legs and belly she's practically touching the ground and that combined with a busy base made it hard for the viewer to perceive her as a whole. Also, she did not have a clear main focus point color-/lightwise. I don't think the crowded base would be such an issue with Graves because he towers over it. Additionally, you used quite subdued colors in the lower part of the mini and all of the base, leading the viewer's eye to the bright skin tones of the face and upper body of the mini, thus putting the focus on Graves himself.
  21. I like his suit a lot you have a quite a unique cartoony style - I am very interested to see how you approach Killjoy! I'm not (yet) a hundered percent sold on Grave's face. For my taste it has a slightly too feminine touch (very soft features and the lips, I guess), but that might also be the light. Great job, though, also on the base!
  22. Thanks guys @Ghulaf: I only borrowed the old books from a collegue for a while and dont have them any more. Was that the one written from the Teddy's perspective where you have his twisted perception of how he interacts with people? - Where he is happily playing with them unaware of the havoc he causes. @Ferossa: Thank you very much, glad you like it I always enjoy it if people give a little background on their work. It is inspiring and shows the different approaches people take.
  23. The axe of the librarian looks awesome. Care to share the technique used to achieve the effect on the blade?
  24. The only thing that comes to my mind would be Secret Weapon 50mm corpses base: http://www.shop.battlefield-berlin.de/img_big/f687b0b2868aed1d17898b6162fd2764.jpg then maybe use their "sack o' corpses" to add to that until you're happy with the amount of slaugther (see here: http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=47_55&products_id=576&zenid=2cffd5c6abd357fb2a7d11b7b4b331b2)
  25. Thank you all very much Creepy is good, that means mission accomplished He had been lying around starring at me for quite a while until I finally had the idea with the crib. @SC: Agreed. I really love the concept of the teddy, but I find as a mini he needs a little context to work. I actually think that is true for many of the Neverborn minis to take them from brute or goofy to horror or alien. @McMold: I actually considered getting another Pandora box just to have a baby Kade mini to work with. Also thought about converting a second Candy to a regular girl standing with the back to the teddy. But 50 bucks would have been a little much as I have not use for more sorrows or a second Dora So I ended up using plastic card, green stuff and *cough* LotR Frodo from my bits collection.
