  1. Are you sure of that? Terrifying works every time the model is targeted by an attack action, without the activation constraint that M2E manipulative had. The penalty for failure is lower than previously but the card drain is here. If a model attacks yours 2 times during its activation, it has to pass 2 duels instead of 1. With a terrifying 11, many models will have to flip or sacrifice a moderate card before taking the action (Provided Wp stats in M3E are similar to M2E).
  2. I missed the spoiler about this one. I thought Masters had 2 ap when purchased as non leaders. I get your point now.
  3. I don’t get what you imply. If point balance is done correctly a fast 14SS model (masters) will be more valuable than a fast 10SS model am I wrong? Buh anyhow Mason has implied that the effigies as totems balance the difference in SS cost. I see no reason not to trust him :D. It would mean that the NB retain a competitively viable Puppet theme, if this is the case and Hinamatsu still has a related keyword attached (and we don’t know Vassalisa’s fate, perhaps she did not go away with Collodi). I couldn’t not be happier about that.
  4. This is a very good idea ! This will probably add a lot of diversity to the lists. However, if the masters are worth 14 SS as the spoiled ones with a free totem and the Carver is 10 SS with a free effigy, isn’t there still an imbalance in SS between both types of crews? Or are effigied a lot more expensive than totems in M3E?
  5. Thanks for the reminder. Perhaps my remark was due to a M2E mindset. The shadow system seems to imply access to a lot more cover if I understood correctly so maybe shooters are not as strong as I fear they could be.
  6. How does 3D movement work? Especially regarding Place effects and Incorporeal models. Do Flight and other place effects thus prevent a model to be targeted by disengaging strikes? This is a great change ! This is a logical change. However, if I understood the spoilers correctly, with 0" melee range being a thing, don't we run the risk of seeing ranged models behind walls become a bit overprotected? All these changes seem intuitive and very interesting.
  7. Are you speaking about these 2 sculpts? I wouldn't call either of them boring but it is just my opinion. Personally I prefer the first one because I do not picture Misaki as freely showing boobs and legs but that's my personal opinion. On the M3E arts that we've sene so far, the only dynamic part is the cape and the faces are without any expression (except for Marcus & Myranda).
  8. I doubt this is a consideration but I may be wrong. Wyrd’s business is to sell new minis not help convert old ones.
  9. Models are computer designed and prototypes are 3D prints. I doubt green stuffing and using old sculpts is the cause of the currently lack of pose variation. Mould cost and model assembly considerations seem more likely causes. Or lack of inspiration. But my thing is painting not sculpting so I could be wrong.
  10. You're a glass half full person . When I look at below art, I picture the minis that will result from it and my mind screams "Vanilla", "Meh", "Just another stuff we have already seen a thousand of times". Imho the poses are uninspired, very static and unoriginal. Von Stook is so disappointing... we are talking about a mad man with a university of zombies and nothing transpires of it in the art. And the lack of originality has been present for a while now. Take the example of Alt Nekima (left) and compare to what PP did more than 10 years ago (right)...
  11. Ah OK. Interesting point. I hate assembling tiny bits with a passion BUT I hate boring sculpts even more. Malifaux M2E was way ahead of any miniature game I knew in terms of variety of poses. If we lose that and if we lose the grim dark feel about the game, it's just another steampunk skirmish game...
  12. There is a Piper art in the TTB extension "Above the Law" (good stuff by the way). As it seems to be an art from the newest artist, my guess is that this is the new Hamelin. BTW the M2E Hamelin was not my cup of tea. I find the one in "Above the Law" interesting although still beneath M1E Hamelin imho. I don't understand. These arts are the bases of new mini sculpts. Why do you think they are constrained by design? If there is a time to be creative it is this time don't you think. Switching from M1E to M2E did not seem to hinder the originality of the new arts/sculpts.
  13. You would be dishevelled too if you had to drag this huge umbrella/sword all around your brothel all day . The sword + umbrella are likely to weight around 6 kg... Unless she is very short, it's almost an Odachi sword at that point... I don't get this handle thing either. She has a face reminding me a bit of a fox. Perhaps she is a Kitsune.
  14. Dear All, I've been playing Malifaux since the beginning of M2E. The art and the miniature quality has been what pushed me into the game. The fluff and the rules kept me in it. What I felt from the M2E art was a sense of darkness in a grim, hopeless and oppressive place. This imho went hand in hand with the fluff. There was no good guys, only nuances of grey. From book 5 the art has been changing. First of all, the blue/grey of the midtones seem gone from the colouring (tones are less somber). Secondly, I feel the art is less successful at "synthesizing a character in its look". Menace and creepiness is gone. Now that we have seen some art spoilers in different media (Rasputina, the new Guild masters, Youko, Dreamer, Von Stook, Yan Lo, Hamelin...), I feel the art is becoming really vanilla, without the personality and uniqueness it used to have. This feeling may also happen because I really don't like the style of the new artist that has been chosen for Malifaux. It is not that I find the work ugly, the artist is obviously talented but I just find the art completely uninteresting. I want to like the new art because I love the game but I just can't get my head around this new art direction. Am I the only one unsettled by these changes?
  15. This artwork is really unimpressive and conveys no charisma at all...
  16. This sounds very complicated and not always intuitive. Perhaps it is the lack of schematics but this will not be newby friendly and may also be very annoying in tournaments.
  17. Thx for the info ! Do we get more information about the Death Marshalls (origin, magic, secrets) as well as the Elite Division?
  18. I seriously doubt anyone will have more than 2 keywords for front card space reason and probably design space. Each keyword means a related front card ability if I understood correctly. My guess is Nephilim / Darkened and Woe / Darkened. My intuition may be wrong but I think Mimic will disappear in favour of something related to the Elite Division and Trial / law manipulation.
  19. I have a doubt on Lelu & Lilitu as they have 3 keywords in M2E. This may make the front card really crowdy if they get the abilities of the nightmares and woes in addition to what is already printed on their card (provided they retain their abilities). I wonder if they will become versatile or chose one keyword instead. In that case Nephilim being the most spread out keyword in M2E they may chose woe or nightmare instead.
  20. My 2 cents about the NB evolution regarding all the latest spoilers. The lost ones: · Lynch: This was the master that got me into the game. He was considered weak in NB which I never felt was the case. I expect we will lose some of is thematic models to the TT (illuminated, depleted, beckoners at least). My personal issue is that I painted him with NB colours so it is not suitable for any 10T theme, even if I wanted to get into the faction (which I don’t). · Lilith: I expected it from Broken Promises, so I am not vey surprised. I am very worried if the NB lose her guerilla/hunter playstyle. If Lynch got me into the faction, Lilith kept me in it. · Collodi: This was the worst news for me. I am in the middle of painting his themed crew, with a lot of out of faction puppets I just bought. This is really annoying and worrying because I don’t know what the puppet theme will become and if it will stay in NB. It was very emblematic of NB. About the new masters: · Nekima: She was quite uninteresting in the fluff (brutal and simple minded). If she’s not fleshed out, she may end up getting very boring very quickly. Gameplay wise, if she has not got any trick it will be the same. If the growth mechanics get fixed, it may be interesting though. Additionally, Nekima has a more progressive approach regarding firearms & human-nephilim crossbreeding in the fluff so it may bring some interesting new options to the Nephilim theme. · Euripides: On paper I find the concept of a frost giant prophet throwing ice pillars really boring, a bit lame and out of place in the faction. Let’s see what the fluff tells about him and how his theme ends up working. · Marcus: I like Marcus’ and Myranda’s new art. If it had been M2E Marcus, I would be on board as he would bring a bit of the control / hunting style of play we lost with Lilith’s departure. However, the first spoilers show him as an enabler/support master so if the upgrades are not bringing back old Marcus, I don’t see the interest in bringing him in. Cooper would have made a lot more sense (evil clowns are awesome, and his fluff makes him dual faction anyway)! About the existing masters: · Pandora looks interesting if the NPE factor is removed but the new Misery will be difficult to balance. It could as well be useless or OP depending on how it goes. · Titania gets a part of Lilith’s terrain generation so she will likely be less boring than she was before (at least to me). · Dreamer’s new token-based summoning looks very appealing on paper, I hope he retains some versatility and does not become a pure backline summoner. · Zoraida has always been my girl. I hope her hiring pool gets tweaked towards swampfiends and voodoo magic. · Lucius has taken a blunt in the fluff. Let’s hope he regains some of his old grandeur because right now he is transparent. He may compete heavily with Zoraida and now perhaps with Marcus if he stays with similar abilities as in M2E. I am curious to see what becomes of him. Conclusion: · 3 lost masters, 2 with strong themes including one that is lost for sure for the faction and 1 for which we are in the dark. · The horror / creepy / childhood horror story themes are far less prevalent than before which imho changes the faction identity in a direction that I am not comfortable with. · The hunting / surgical strike style will be lost if Nekima is pure and blunt aggression and Marcus is not his old self. So all in all, I am interested in M3E as the core rules will likely be made better but I am not sure I like what has been spoiled about the Neverborn.
  21. The placement is random which adds another layer of luck that I don’t like.
  22. What happened to the sweet sweet GG18? The spoiled schemes seem like it is a step backward... And Corrupted Idol appears so randomn it is not tactically interesting.
  23. About Marcus & Co, I like the new artwork overall (except for the big order initiate that I find plain ugly). The back of the cards is not as sexy as the front though, it seems a bit plain. I don't mind the new cards size but I did not invest in sleeves and holders heavily. On the card contents though, Marcus seems to have gone from king of the jungle to madman mutating beasts (this is coherent with his change of artwork). He seems to be on full support which is a playstyle I find VERY boring. Let's hope the upgrades correct this because otherwise, this is very disappointing regarding one of the most interesting masters of M2E. I have a feeling that they toned down the overall power level of the masters. I am not sure how I feel about that, I liked having a crew and a boss who is a boss. This may be due to their intention of letting people recruit 2 masters in the same crew but this is not an idea I like and not how I see the game. At present I am unimpressed.
  24. My gaming group featured Nicodem, Marcus, Sonnia and pre nerf Levi at the very beginning. For a beginner, blasters and summoners are imho the worst to handle. Even in causual environnment you do not want to get steamrolled. Being in a causal environment does not mean that people don’t try to balance their games. Hence my meaning about not being at a disadvantage. But I agree some people may have a different perception of the entry to a game.
  25. I respectfully disagree. I consider having "entered" Malifaux when: I can play at the intended balance format (50SS) I can play all the strats and schemes with my collections without feeling at a disadvantage due to a lack of options I can handle the most annoying skews for a beginner (summoners & blasters) Prior to that, I consider it is a try out, not an entry. To do so, in the collection I need: Scheme runners Turf holders & Control options Beaters Snipers and/or Blasters Support pieces (condition removal & protections like cover generation for example) & enablers (depending on the crew) So, depending on the master you choose initially (who may not be an all-rounder), you may end up spending money on an additional crewbox and several additional purchases. I'd say the real cost of entry is more 200-400 USD depending on your exact choices. For example, in M2E my initial 2014-2016 NB collection was Jakob Lynch crew + Graves & Tannen + Beckoner + Depleted + Lilith crew + Lazarus + Doppleganger + Johan + Pukeworm. I was able to play a lot of strats & schemes from the book and GG2016 against a fine variety of opponents. BTW, You will note how much I would have gotten disappointed as a new player if I had just made these purchases right before M3E came out...
