  1. I've been finding the Metal Gamin to be kind of synergizey with Mei Feng. They are Constructs, so you can use them to create a chain for her super-mobility move "Railwalker" to bounce between them. But her box crew with the Rail Workers can do that too. I mainly use them as tanks for sitting in place and holding stuff. The Rail Golem was going to be my second purchase for Mei...but there's none of the synergy that existed in 1E. It's a Construct, and it's good, but there are other options as well. I haven't picked it up.
  2. I have to agree with your point about the photos. I tend to get excited about a game if it has cool looking models, and unfortunately neither the boxes nor the books show you actual pictures of the toys until you either open the box or do a Google image search! A friend pointed out that "sure you have photos of the models, it's on the back" and I had to say that a 3D render isn't at all the same. I hadn't realized how tiny the Rail Workers arms were until I had the plastic in my hands!
  3. I've been enjoying the Arcanist one on Mei Feng - "Philosopher's Stone". The +Df makes it easier for me to get her Df trigger off in cases where I don't have a high enough Mask in hand. The +Wp is ok, but I don't know if it's worth the SS burn. And when I'm ready for an alpha strike, discard it to get another 2 cards in hand so I can try to have Tomes/Masks to use on her Seismic Claws upgrade trigger. For 1ss, it's a pretty flexible upgrade for me, and is seeing a fair amount of use.
  4. I've been running her primarily with Seismic Claws, because it's fantastic and flexible. Is it wrong to answer with Arcanist upgrades in the TT forum? >.> I've been playing with Imbued Energies (killed: get 4 cards; discard to gain fast) and Philosophers stone (SS+flip to get Wp/Df increase; discard to get 2 cards). Fast on Mei just lets me abuse Seismic Claws more, and the Philosphers Stone gets me some quick defense for a bit, and then on the turn I gain Fast I draw another 2 cards to help get those Tomes and Masks rolling for the Tiger's Claw triggers! I played with Thunderous Smash once, because I wanted to be able to deal with Scheme Markers better, but I didn't get to use it at all in that game...so it's back on the chopping block. I'm not certain about Vapormancy. I feel as though, if I'm that close that I have enough other options to choose from. Price of Progress looks pretty good, but whenever I have the choice between having a 7SS cache and taking PoP, I seem to have the extra SS...so maybe I value it less.
  5. I'd posted my version in another thread, but thought I'd toss them in here as well for variety. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByaAQGMZC_bHeDR1aGlrbXlqOVU/edit?usp=sharing (2.29mb)
  6. Hey Rameses - hope you got my PM on the subject, I'd love to take part!
  7. BOOM! ADEPTICON! I solved my problem...2 days of the smaller WH tournaments, followed by 2 days of Malifaux! (and a billion other things...) woot, woot!
  8. Yoko is too pretty, as is Hotaru (for me). I like the fat dude with the flaming rope, but he doesn't look quite crazy enough.
  9. To be perfectly honest...whenever I read the Firestarter card, I think of a Fireman gone horribly wrong. With the brownish/greyish fire retardant coat and hard hat, but on fire, with a hose that spits out fire. ...I can't find a model for that, with a 30 second GImage search. Also, be warned about searching for "fireman model".
  10. One more question I had, after revisiting my planned schedule -- the Sunday event says "By Qualifications Only" in the description - is this the case?
  11. Terrific! Big thanks, I look forward to having my schedule jammed full of more difficult choices!
  12. I'm curious - do you think you'll have it sorted by November 14th, when the Adepticon cart opens? I'm planning my weekend based on the schedule, and some things have tended to sell out so I wanted to get in early...which may mean making decisions based on what's in the schedule, rather than what may be coming the week after! At the same time...I (accidentally) found refunds easy last year, so it should be fine.
  13. I'm not great in "hey...I don't know you, but wanna play?" situations - I love tournaments because it gives two strangers a strong reason to play each other. A Thursday event could change my entire outlook on life. What are peoples thoughts on the Costume/Story event? Amazing? Worth dropping your last game in another tournament for? (Imma need to organize my entire weekends worth of food on the Wednesday...)
  14. That really turns me away from the event. Single Elim means I pays my monies, and (at worst) I only get half of the event. More likely to play something else that can allow me to commit to both days.
  15. Hey all, Busily planning out my Adepticon schedule for 2014 and ran into a thornbush on the Saturday - to many awesome events! My problem is...last year I went to a Blood Bowl tournament, while all of my friends played WHFB. I missed them, and didn't get to join in the camaraderie that comes with playing in a tournament with them. This year...all I can think about is Malifaux. So I could do that instead of WH, without my friends again...or not. Then I was reading about Malifaux from 2013, and it looks like the Sunday was single elimination. I don't want to sign up for something that I won't be in for most of the day, if I don't make it or get eliminated or whatever. Saturday night there's another choice - the Story Encounter vs the Dreadball League. Both sound like tons of fun! Obviously the folks here are biased in a certain direction, but I thought I'd ask for opinions on the various events and see if I could tease out what I should do.
  16. I'm going to completely non-biasedly refer to my painting blog. I've been trying out a technique similar to one of James Wappel, for doing "black" stone. I recently used it on some lava rock for a base I was working on. Here's some photos! I think it looks super good, because it isn't "black", so you don't have the problem of a black model. Technique goes like this...and it requires some bravery: Paint the area Sotek Green. (It's a medium teal colour) Add some Ushapti Bone (off white) and Codex Grey (ligher-medium grey) to your Sotek Green, highlight. Repeat step 2 for 3-4 steps, or whenever you get bored. You will have a REALLY LIGHT model now. It's ridiculous. Stupid looking. Be brave. Thin some black paint until it's transparent when you apply it. Put that onto the model, and pull the paint towards the crevases. Repeat step 6 until you are no longer afraid. The idea is that you have this green underlayer, but the creases in the model end up really near black, and getting lighter as you get to the highlights. It's kind of that black that's kind of green and kind of grey. YMMV. I've only done this on bases so far - just trying it on a model this week! Try it on something you don't care about first! Edit: Here's another post describing what I did. Also links to previous attempts on other bases.
  17. I'm getting into this action too... Mine are slightly less minimalist. I like pretty pictures. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByaAQGMZC_bHeDR1aGlrbXlqOVU/edit?usp=sharing They are good to go for double-sided printing, as is. The little boxes in the middle of the pages are crop markers, so cut along those lines as best you can when printing.
