  1. My pledge this month is another Kaeris (because you can't have enough Kaerises), and another firestarter (my third, a proxy) (because you can't have enough Firestarters). So much great stuff to paint in just two models. Going to start early this month! Cheers all.
  2. An hour and a half to go, and I too am just coming in under the wire. Ended up with something work-related every other evening this week and so had to speed-paint tonight. Oh well, I should know better than to leave things for the final week. These 2 steamfitters bring me to 17 SS: 2 x 6 SS steamfitters + 5 SS crates terrain. Cheers all.
  3. My first mini to be finished this month is the crates terrain. I may go back some day in the future and add some green wire to the ivy vine---the leaves work great with this Army Painter feature, but when there are clumps spread apart I think it would benefit from making the central vines more visible. Calling it done for now for the first 5 SS of the month. 2 Steamfitters still to come. Cheers all. @Franchute: those Kentauri are just amazing. I think I can smell them from here.
  4. @Purple Mist Those bases are going to be perfect for the Hoarcats. The glass looks great. BTW: play a few of these against a gremlin crew if you want instant hilarity.
  5. Here is the progress on my August pledge. I need to go back and touch up a few places on the pile of crates scatter terrain where it did not take the wash. Then I will add some mud caked on the bottom and a weed or two beside them. I am happy with how the steamfitter bases came out and that they fit around the pipes without doing a balancing pose. I just have some of the base colors down on the actual mini's so far. I noticed after priming that the male steamfitter is not picking his teeth with the screwdriver as planned, which would not be a very good tool for that anyway. Rather, he is closely inspecting the end of the screwdriver, perhaps to see if he just dislodged any bits of food? These are going to take a lot of different colors and edge highlighting as there are a lot of small details that I want to have show up.
  6. My pledge for August is 2 union steamfitters and a piece of scatter terrain. Will be 17 SS worth once completed. Cheers, all.
  7. Thanks Butch! I really struggle with eyes. I think I need to experiment with some flow aid or other paint additives. If I thin, the paint tends to run into all the creases. Something going on with the adhesion of the paint to the surface or with the surface tension---not sure which. I will try to add some character to the eyes when I get her under the brush again, though.
  8. Thanks @misterfinn. I will give that a try.
  9. I finished my July model---Rasputina for 15 SS. I am happy with how the base came out but not happy with her face, especially the lips. So, at arms length I am happy. Cheers all.
  10. Maybe someone should take pity on us all and put out a sprue of sun glasses. 😉
  11. I have always wanted to run a Marcus crew that was all dogs and cats, just for fun. I haven't built the list yet as I still have hoarcats and hounds sitting unbased. But, it could include: Hoarcats Rugarou Corrupted hounds Sabertooth cerberus
  12. Good lord that sounds fun! Going to try this soon.
  13. Thanks, Lucious! I am using thin basswood panels from the hardware store. They were about 6 inches by 36 inches. I use a hobby knife to slice them into strips that are roughly the same width, but I freehand it to make them a bit wavy. I use the same hobby knife to score vertical 'ends' in the boards at random distances from the end. The finish is actual wood stain, golden oak from Minwax. It is a lot of surface area, so I use a 1" wide brush, not a hobby brush. Cutting before staining prevents light-colored edges. The boards are then just fixed to the wall with Gorilla construction adhesive. This stuff is great as it is viscous enough to slap them right onto vertical surface. The end view of the wall shows that put the bottom panel completely against the wall and then just overlap the bottom of each subsequent board as I go up. Hope this helps!
  14. I made a bit of progress on the spider factory board. I need to cut and stain more siding boards but the exterior walls are mostly roughed in. I went with stone blocks around the base of the building. This serves a double purpose of keeping the walls in place and immobile and serving as cover when the building is not used. This way the wall can be used or not, but will be locked in place when it is used. I made these by cutting strips of pink rigid insulation, sanding, and then texturing them with some rocks. I created a wanted poster for one side to break it up a bit, and a factory sign for above the door. After I finish up the exterior wall, I plan to do the flagstone sidewalks next.
  15. Here are a few hazardous markers I made for an All Hallows Eve game with the Carver last year. The hanging tree is made from an antler. The model is from the male multi-part kit. Bee hive is green stuff. The Saarlak thing is a reaper model on a 50 mm base.
  16. Maybe a duck-hunting blind made of sticks and reeds? This could tie in nicely some of the hunting-themed gremlin models.
  17. Here is my work in progress on Rasputina. Base colors are down and I did a bit of glazing on the white fabric at the back. Happy with it so far. I am forcing myself to finish the model before playing with the base, which is going to be a blast. Cheers, all. I hope I run into some of you at Gen Con in Indianapolis in two weeks!
