  2. Malifaux will be at the Wellington Warlords' annual convention, Call to Arms. It will be held on the 5th of 6th of August at St. Patrick's College Hall in Rongotai. The Malifaux tournament is a one-day, three-round, 50SS format event held on the 5th. Cost is $25, or $40 if paid after the 24th of July. Full details here: https://warlords.org.nz/call-to-arms-information/. The player pack is linked at the bottom of the page. Be great to see you there!
  3. Yeah, $50 would be about right. I got three P1 sheets done and it was a little over US$100. It ends up about $0.60-70 per 20mm, $1-1.50 per 30mm, and $3.50-5 for a 50mm. All depends on the amount of black in the design! The head marker was one of the first I did, I should make a better design without that huge amount of fill that the laser has to cover. I just got my first full batch done and they had this weird white pitting inside the laser fill areas, so I'm going to do a wash over them with something like Agrax Earthshade / Army Painter Strong Tone to darken them. Thanks, I just looked up Market Deco and that's definitely the font. Oh well, I used a font finding tool and of course they only show you paid fonts...
  4. I found the font, it's Le Havre Titling with some of the alternate ligatures used. Unfortunately Inkscape doesn't have support for ligatures (or at least that I can find) so I had to do without the really cool A, B, E, and P. Oh well. I get my tokens done through the Ponoko maker service. They of course have their own requirements for the way the SVG is coded so I changed it to be compatible, plus added a bunch of new tokens and changed some others. It should have all the non-specific conditions and markers. I also included US and non-US spelling for Armour and Paralysed. I know the "activated" and "wounded" conditions are a bit overkill, but after playing with a Som'er summoning crew for a few years I really needed a nicer way to track those two things over a dozen different gremlin models! Here's why my SVG looks like: You can download it from here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0By080EB4aAS6UEw2UVozY181OEU I get them made on 1.6mm Technoply Beech. It's thin-enough that you can glue two tokens together which I really like. They come out looking like this: Next up I want to make the master- and model-specific conditions, like Do It Like Dis and Quit Screwin' Around.
  5. I love these tokens! Thank you so much for sharing them. I've got a them laser-cut a few times both for myself and as handouts for local tournaments. I've started to make my own ones (Adversary, Summoned, Insignificant, Turf, Head, etc) and I've managed to re-use the characters from the font, however it takes a long time and I have to kern it manually which can look a bit ugly! Do you have a link to the font you used? I don't mind buying it, I spend a truckload on getting them made anyway! Once I've finished my current designs I'll upload them if anyone is interested. Still got a few more to do - Activated, Reactivate, Informant, Tagged, Exhausted, etc.
  6. Starting this week (Monday the 12th of September) we'll be running a Shifting Loyalties campaign in conjunction with the Divergent Paths worldwide event. The "official" games night will be Wednesday at the Khandallah Cub Scout hall, but feel free to play games any other night or via VASSAL! Please get in touch via PM if you'd like to sign up. Also we'll be tallying up TP/Diff/VP so we can award the trophy at the end of the event! To keep things on an even keel only your single best game every week counts for scoring purposes, and you can only play a maximum of three games in the campaign every week. Any others have to be just friendlies.
  7. Thanks to everyone for attending! It was awesome to see new faces in the scene, as well as one of them taking out first place. Promise we didn't go easy, looks like we're all going to have to raise the bar a little. It was a great tournament that saw most of the games being very close and just one point separating the top four players. Final standings were: Valerii (Outcasts) Matt (Arcanist) Karl (Arcanist) Liam (Guild) Hayden (Ten Thunders) Robert (Outcasts) James (Guild) Jordan (Neverborn) Philip (Gremlin) Simon (Neverborn) As mentioned look out for a campaign starting up in the next few weeks once we can use the Khandallah hall for Malifaux again.
  8. Malifaux will be making its traditional appearance at the Wellington Warlords' annual event, Call to Arms. The tournament will take place at the usual venue, St. Patrick's College Hall in Kilbirnie, on Saturday the 6th of August. Kick off is 9am, runs till 4.45pm. You'll be playing three 50SS rounds over just the one day. The full rules pack is available from the Wellington Warlords website. Please enter as soon as possible, it's only $25 for the day as long as you pay before the 15th of July!
  9. And we have a winner! From all accounts a thrilling final, until Matt emerged triumphant to clinch the victory 7-5. And with the victory goes the title! I, for one, welcome our new Arcanist overlords.
  10. So the semis are done: Chris beat Pete 8-4 Matthew beat Simon 6-4 So the final match is a repeat of the top table clash of round 3, Chris vs Matthew! Stay tuned folks.
  11. The league portion is over! Final standings are: Matthew: 12, +17, 31 Robert: 9, +16, 27 Chris: 6, +4, 13 Pete: 3, +4, 14 Simon: 3, +3, 16 James: 3, -9, 13 Liam: 3, -9, 11 Sarah: 3, -14, 16 Karl: 0, -4, 4 Richard: 0, -5, 2 Jordan: 0, -6, 4 It's been a great event so far, seen plenty of games up at the Khandallah club especially with the Guildball league running at the same time. But right now it's FINALS TIME! Unfortunately I'll be out of town all of next week so won't be able to play. That leaves the semi-finals games as: Matthew vs Simon Chris vs Pete The winner of those two games will go head-to-head for the final. The semi-final games are: Strategy: Reckoning Deployment: Corner Schemes: Convict Labour, Take Prisoner, Show of Force, Catch and Release, Frame for Murder The final game is: Strategy: Stake a Claim Deployment: Close Schemes: Convict Labour, Exhaust Their Forces, Leave Your Mark, Neutralise the Leader, A Quick Murder Also after the final game we'll raffle for prizes, including everyone who posted at least three results throughout the league.
  12. Heading in to the last week, this is what the leaderboard looks like: Matthew: 9, +11, 21 Robert: 6, +10, 17 Chris: 6, +4, 13 Pete: 3, +4, 14 Simon: 3, +3, 16 Liam: 3, -2, 8 Sarah: 3, -5, 16 Karl: 0, -4, 4 Richard: 0, -5, 2 James: 0, -18, 4 This week's games are: Strategy: Turf War Deployment: Flank Schemes: Convict Labour, Hunting Party, Exhaust Their Forces, Neutralise the Leader, Inspection Get to it folks! Top four will go through to the finals. Also I realised that next time for a league I really need to add "number of games played" as the second figure on the leaderboard after TP, otherwise you can be penalised near the middle and bottom of the table by playing more games.
  13. So we're at the end of the second week, these are the standings half-way through the league: Matthew: 6, +9, 16 Chris: 6, +6, 10 Liam: 3, +4, 5 Robert: 3, +1, 8 Sarah: 3, -1, 11 Simon: 0, -1, 7 Karl: 0, -1, 2 Pete: 0, -2, 5 Richard: 0, -5, 2 James: 0, -9, 4 Also we picked up one more player this week, Richard from the Hobby Stop. Week three's games will be: Strategy: Headhunter Deployment: Standard Schemes: Convict Labour, Leave Your Mark, Public Demonstration, Covert Breakthrough, Take Prisoner
  14. Okay, week two: Strategy: Squatter's Rights Deployment: Corner Schemes: Convict Labour, Show of Force, Exhaust Their Forces, Search the Ruins, Occupy Their Turf
  15. Sorry, you're totally right! I picked those out of the Gaining Grounds following the current season's strategy and deployment schedule. Promise next time it'll be Collect the Bounty, Headhunter, and Reckoning.
  16. First week is wrapping up, five games played and here's how the leaderboard looks: Matthew: 3 TP, +5 DIFF, 8 VP Sarah: 3 TP, +5 DIFF, 7 VP Chris: 3 TP, +1 DIFF, 3 VP Robert: 3 TP, +1 DIFF, 8 VP Simon: 0 TP, -1 DIFF, 7 VP Karl: 0 TP, -1 DIFF, 2 VP Pete: 0 TP, -2 DIFF, 5 VP James: 0 TP, -5 DIFF, 3 VP Liam: no result posted Still a few days this week to get in some extra games! I'll post next week's scheme pool first thing on Monday.
  17. Hey all, grab yer 'at, strap on your blunderbuss and swig yer hooch: it's league season again! Format: The league will be four weeks long, each with a set strategy, deployment and scheme pool. Players can play as many games as they want, and each player's best single result each week will count. The best three results from the four weeks will count towards the final leaderboard. At the end of the league the top four will play off against each in a two-round knockout tournament. The weeks are: February 15th - 21st: Interference, Standard February 22nd - 28th: Squatter's Rights, Corner February 29th - March 6th: Headhunter, Standard March 7th - 13th: Turf War, Flank Schemes will be revealed at the start of each week. Locations: Games can be played anywhere you like, however there are two venues that you're quite likely to find other players: The Dragon's Lair gaming club, meeting in Khandallah Cub Scout hall at 11 Station Road every Wednesday from 5.30pm. The Hobby Stop in Kilbirnie, meeting on Thursday nights. Prizes: Everyone that enters at least three results over the four weeks will get an entry into a raffle for some loot! We have a small stash of limited edition models that will be on offer for a few lucky winners. If you would like to participate, or know more about the local gaming clubs, please PM or send me an email at robert.h.curry@gmail.com.
  18. 15 games of Malifaux later and we have a champion! Vorschlag retains the title, and some upset victories saw a lot of new faces saw a changing of the guard higher up on the table. Here is a photo of everyone with their medals and various prizes, mostly sponsored by the great people at Mighty Ape. Thanks!
  19. Still time to register! And we've just received a fully-painted Dreamer crew box for a spot prize, you gotta be in to win! Thanks so much to Charles Radford for painting this awesome prize.
  20. Malifaux is back at Valleycon next year! When: January the 30th, 9am onwards Where: Upper Hutt Civic Hall What: Three rounds, 50SS, fixed faction Who: TO is Robert Curry Why: Why not? How: This part is left up to you. Entry cost is $35. Full competition pack and entry details are at the Hutt Club website: https://huttclub.wordpress.com/events/valleycon-2016/malifaux/
  21. Speak of the devil, and she shall appear!
  22. The future has a depressing amount of min damage 4.
  23. We had a great time yesterday, six players in total competing for the glory of the Memento Mori perpetual trophy. Photos and comments are available on the Unpleasant Things Happen Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/unpleasantthingshappen/posts/442398189251268 We played a couple of the new strategies from Gaining Grounds: Extraction and Headhunter. They are a great spin on the old strategies, especially Headhunter - that was a crazy one that took us all a few turns to get the hang of. Most memorable for me was Fingers running in after a failed assault and picking up Burt and Gracie's heads before Squeeling out of there!
  24. I'm hoping to upgrade my existing Viktorias crew with a couple of the new plastic miniatures available only in the M2E box set, specifically the Student of Conflict miniature and the Taelor miniature. I already have the cards, just not the models. This is where YOU can help! I'm in New Zealand so happy to pay the extra postage.
  25. The Hutt Miniatures Wargames Club is putting on their annual "ValleyCon" convention, and as part of that we're putting on two one-day Malifaux tournaments. The Saturday tournament is a 42+flip SS fixed faction Gaining Grounds tournament. The Sunday tournament is a quickfire tournament based on the UK Hardcore format, but with more emphasis on schemes and less on killing - we're dubbing it "Scheming Bastards". Finals rules for this are being worked out and will be posted closer to the time. Full details are available on the Hutt Club website.
