  1. Yeah, with or without Nicodem, punk zombies are pretty good. Even if they don't take down the opponent they are fighting, they have slow to die with an attack or pulse spell. I do second the nurse statements, they are cool to have but so so on the table top. If you ever planned to get some nurses, the box set is a good just to get all those models. No sure if it a saving, but most of the box sets seem like a good deal. In malifaux, the more models the better. Welcome to malifaux.
  2. Welcome to the Forums and the world of Malifaux. Don't worry, it is kind of odd in the fact that you normally run into discouraging post way more than encouraging post here, but I guess that is helpful also (in a way?). Seamus was the first Resurrectionist set I got and I played him for a while. Unfortunately, I was still pretty new to Malifaux at the time so I was not playing Malifaux the way you should play Malifaux. I found Seamus works well with the models in this box set mainly because he can only make belles, he helps belles move faster so there is kind of a link there. With all the strats and schemes there are I find it hard to make a link that would take on everything. To me, it really just depends on the strats and schemes being used. Night terrors are great for dealing with enemy shooting and crooked men work well with the belles and their lure spell. I never have used outcast mercs, so I can't offer any help there, but the gunslinger with Seamus' own gun could set up a nice gun line. So for me, I use the Redchapel gang most (his box set) and add in what I need for objectives. I am no master of Malifaux, but hope that helps out some.
  3. Hmm, that is kind of what I was thinking. It was the first time I used them so I was not 100% sure. Seemed a little easy to use it the way I was thinking. Thank you fellow Malifauxian. So they are more for denial that anything. Good to know.
  4. Ok, so I got my buddy to try this out and here is how it went. Guild VS Resurrectionist. Guild had Lady Justice, Guild Gaurd Captain, and Drill Sgt. Resurrectionist had McMourning, 2 night terror, crooked man. Guild had Slaughter strategy, Round up and Lay these souls to rest schemes. Resurrectionist had Claim Jump strategy, Army of the dead scheme. (dropped second for soul stones) Battlefield was indoors using some map tiles I had of a house. Outcome- Resurrectionist win. 3pts to 0pts. Total time was about 50 minutes, but this includes me still running the rest of gaming with questions and the first time using night terrors and crooked man. Highlight of the game-Guild guard captain steps too close to a shafted counter and flips a black joker. Over all, very fun and didn't seem to lose the feel of Malifaux. Next time we will try outdoors.
  5. So I finally got a pack of Crooked men the other day and got to try them out today. I searched for this already, but could not find anything so I figured I would ask the good people of the forum. My question is: If I cast Shafted and place the counter within 2" of a model that has already been activated for the turn does it set off the effects? Here is the spell. Shafted: place 1 shafted marker within 6" of this model. When a model ends it's move or Push with 2" of a shafted marker, removed the marker and the model's controller flips a fate card.
  6. Based off more complexity. Not one to to be able to tell who goes well (or not so well) against each other. To me, if the cards go right and the schemes are there, anyone could beat anyone. There are only so many good cards in a deck, is what I always say.
  7. Story encounters, awesome! That is one thing malifaux is seriously missing, more story encounters! This game is soo detailed and character driven, that not having more story encounters should be a crime.
  8. If you wanted to be really cheap on fixing the cards, just put a piece of glossy tape over the wound tracker. That is really the only place you will be marking on. Use a dry easer marker and away you go. As for the rulebook, my friend had the same trouble. The website is really the only way to get any type of fluff as to the factions. I know lots of people that pick fluff over rules or models, so that is kind of a problem. Small things, but much better than what you deal with as far as other companies go. Also, welcome to Malifaux.
  9. Doesn't look too bad. I am going to get the group to try it out tomorrow. I will post up the results.
  10. Well for the sake of ease, I would pick McMourning VS Lady Justice. For a little more details in the game, I would go Raspuntia VS Viktorias. Then for a henchmen battle do Von Schill VS Lucius. I would leave Kirai out. As much as I love her (she is the reason I play Resurrectionist) she makes the rest of the faction look bad. Only in the fact she is such an outcast in the resurrectionist. That is what I would do.
  11. Nice! I was really let down to see there have been no new story scenarios since Halloween 2010. I was hoping to see something every year. The scenarios in the upcoming con were close, but not quite the same thing.
  12. Yeah, my gaming group started at 20ss and have worked our way up to 30/35ss crews. The basic rules of the game are easy enough to get, it is all the models and their rules that slow it down. Also sticking to one faction helps also in the learning.
  13. Welcome to Malifaux! I'm not the best person to help you out with this. You are going to get alot of different views on this, but I can give you my view. I would (and did) start with the Seamus starter box. All the models seem to work well with each other and make a good starting point. Some will say he is not that great, but it really depends on how you play and view the game. Over all, pick the one you like the best and go with that.
  14. Really? So if the limit is 8ss, McMourning has a cache of 6ss and I make a crew that is 4ss under the limit, I could not exchange the 2ss over the 8ss into body parts before the game starts? Of coarse, now that I have canines, I have no need to do that. Just curious.
  15. I don't have Rafkin, but the ability is most likely the same as McMourning and Sebastian. Yes, you could take soul stones from your pool and have Rafkin start with body parts, just as McMourning and Sebastian. I normally only do that if I am going over the soul stone starting cache. So yes, one soul stone equal one body part.
  16. I like the ice golem. It kinda looks like he is hiding something.
  17. Good day! Welcome to the world of Malifaux. I read your battle report and figured I would help you out on a few points. 1. When you cast the spell with Sybelle, you use Ca not Wp. 2. You can (and will later on) cheat down a flip, but you would not want to do this against an opponent. 3. In the Duel with Samuel, you just count the card flips before flipping. In that case, you would have flipped one card. That would be -1 for winning at 0 and +1 for the charge. 4. Charges cost 2 ap so you would get the charge attack, but no other attacks. 5. The hard to wound is another ablility that affects the flips for damage. In your case, Samuel would have just flipped one card. Overall a good report, I liked it. I am a fellow Resurrectionist, so welcome to the faction!
  18. I copy the side of the card with the stats and put it in a basic card sleeve, then I put the regular cards on the side for reference. Only need one card for all the same type of models. Takes up a lot less space.
  19. I have to back up the idea of not taking a rogue necromancy. With McMourning, it is easy enough to summon. I would also agree with the Guild Autopsy also. I have not used them but they don't look great on paper. You really want to get a flesh contruct to summon later and you need some hitting power in your list. I normally run punk zombies with McMourning, they are good in combat and have slow to die which is great. Hope that helped some.
  20. Yeah, the McMourning box set is not really that great. It is nice to get but does nothing right out of the box. I have never used two nurses, taking one sometimes. When I do, she normally walks around harmless until she gets to an objective then grabs and runs. I just got dogs a few weeks ago and they really bring the crew together with McMourning and Sebastian. I never kill my dogs as I feel it is kind of a waste on my part. I could kill the dogs and get the counters first turn, OR I could use those cards to send a dog at my opponent maybe do a wound or two, maybe rabies. If the dog gets killed, that is cool, I get the corpse and summon the contruct. I know most others don't do that, that is just the way I play. Hope you continue to enjoy your games.
  21. It is pretty hard core in the fact you have been playing this whole time without schemes! That really make the game a do-or-die event. As a Resurrectionist player also, I bring out McMourning when the others feel like playing Guild. I personally have never paided for a flesh contruct, I always summon it (sometimes two). I have also never did the "kill your own models for body parts" deal. With that said, I do fairly well with my games. I normally only use models that come from the box sets, so I guess they are all book one guys. Sounds like you are doing pretty good then, when schemes hit the table, the game really changes. Just remember, objectives are how you win, not killing all your opponent's models.
  22. May be a little late to post this, but if anyone wants to pop in Friday night (today, the 23th) here is the info. They sell a small selection of Malifaux there also. Dragon's Lair 5022 S. 153rd Street Omaha, NE 68137 (402) 895-5653
  23. Wow, very nice. You are off to a good start if that is just your first box set. Keep up the good work and welcome to Malifaux.
  24. That is the same thing I am always thinking. I plan to base all my ressers on graveyard bases as it would look odd for McMourning and the Nurse to stand on tile while the punk zombies are standing on dirt. Guess I fall more in the gamer than the modeler. Thanks for the replies everyone.
  25. Nice job! Like the colors. I am a resser player myself also. Seamus was the first box set I got, just something about a game that let you play with undead hookers.
