  1. I don't believe they hold back on it because it is a metal kit or because it is one of the more challenging models to build. Most of the range is still metal, after all. I don't know why they hold back on the update, really...but i assume they just want to get it right for what they want the model to do on the board. Imho it is long overdue though...and the sooner the better of course. Nekima, as a character in the world of Malifaux, has a huge potential for future development (i do believe and hope that i am not the only one seeing this). She could evolve to be a henchwoman or even a master very easily, her rivalry with her sister just opened the niche. Her stories and references clearly imply at someone growing in influence rapidly and independently, and her appearance clearly refer to a figure of authority. With Hamelin done and fixed, Nekima is the only other model mentionned specifically for revision in last year's large FAQ release. So we know it's coming...just a matter of when.
  2. Some of these have been stated, but for emphasis: a) Community. Are there people playing Malifaux around? Do you think you can have fun with them (there are some odd gaming communities out there)? Are there friends you know that could be interested or convinced to try? This is critical to actually play the game, regardless of your best intentions. Time. Miniature games take time (build, paint, play, etc.) If you play alot of games already and/or have a seriously busy life (family, social network, work...etc), you might end up with a very nice, but dusty collection. c) Hobby. Do you really enjoy painting or building stuff? If so, Malifaux miniatures are, and that's coming from over 20 years of modeling, awesome as a whole. They have alot of character and present quite a bit of challenge for the modeller. I would guess that it is the same for painters too. This aspect can help alleviate issues with a and b...because the hobby itself is a fun activity for the lone enthusiast. Currently Malifaux is not widely known, but it has a lot of potential imho. It is the game i would currently recommend to try for a new player in the miniature game scene.
  3. Sorry for the tease, but in the meanwhile, feel free to test this. Thanks, i am glad you like it To be fair, this ruleset does make her "physically" stronger than she was...but i think it glues to the fluff nicely. The area i am not sure how the balance feels is when she is used in conjunction with another master, there could be some loopholes here and there. Other than that, i am quite satisfied of the results.
  4. Oh they've been mentionned quite a few times here, and as stated above, they're quite good. We might even see more of "tree" oriented Neverborn in the future...seems that Lilith is headed that way
  5. It's always fun to see the characters i've read about in the stories. The game then extends that story and can be seen as a "snap shot" of the character's adventure. To see Nicodem fend off Guild guards with a swarm of zombies is highly cinematic, just as a rain of stuffed piglets can be when Gremlins are featured. So almost all models can be fun for me, as long as they fit the theme they are meant to appear in. Randomly picking models to make a powerful crew is boring for me, and i will just not have a good time then, be it my crew or my opponent's.
  6. Somehow i've not seen it mentionned in this thread (Brain bubbles i guess), but there's always Baby Kade (who is still a decent model, too imho) who can help position Teddy. It's quite the cinematic entrance for the fluffy fellow I have two nightmare teddies, even if i am mainly a Nephilim player...there's something irresistible in teddy's concept.
  7. It's not just for hamelin players, it's a chistmas present for every malifaux player around. We all benefit from a playable Hamelin; the theme is too nice to put in the NPE file
  8. Good one As for Hamelin errata, it looks to be well done. So far i had avoided to even look at hamelin miniatures...now, mmm...rats. I like rats. Can't wait to read the comments of those who are veterans of the Plagued.
  9. @ I_was_like_you: If you pick her avatar, you ought to look in the waldegeists's direction. They can benefit from her manifestation more than other neverborns. As stated above, Terror Tots are good ss 3 models, so you never really go wrong with them. It seems that the neverborn-only scheme (reclaiming malifaux) was made for them. Young Nephilims are great too, and provide a diving charge for 6ss with the possibility of flay. At 25 ss, the BBS won't help as much as a Young Nephilim would, imho. With lilith i tend not to go for the specialised growth list, and rather simply grow things out of game opportunities. Her crews are typically fast, and getting into position/securing objectives early in the game can help when facing slow and tough crews. I am a fan of Waldegeist, they bring in uncommon toughness and board control. Even without any forest, their perfect camouflage can make them hard to remove. Here's one take: Lilith - 6 soulstones (with that many, you can be rather aggressive) - Totem of your choice, or avatar (2) 3 Teror tots (9) 1 Young Nephilim (6) 1 Waldegeist (6)
  10. Yeah that was the idea, i ran Zoraida, doppleganger and Beckoners together last game and the issue puzzled me. Wp10 Honeyed word is pretty charming. Thanks alot for the answers
  11. That's how i've interpreted the ruling, so it's good to see that i am not the only one. Thanks
  12. Hello, As the title mentions, i have a question on this application of mimic. The Doppleganger's ability mentions that when it mimics a basic attack (weapon), it uses its CB of 5 :masks to make the strike. The Beckoner's ranged attack, Honeyed Words, states that it uses Wp instead of Cb. Which line takes precedence? In other words (pun unintented), does the Doppleganger make ranged attacks with its Cb or Wp when mimicking Honeyed Words?
  13. Interesting ideas, i might not have delved into it enough. I noted that they indeed could cause some dmg, with Wp 6 and ignoring cover. The "Know my client" (0) is very solid indeed. It's just their weak dmg 1 that makes it less appealing. As a side note... What happens if the doppleganger mimics Honeyed Words? Does it use its Wp or its Cb to attack? With Zoraida close by, i could copy her Wp (10) and Honeyed Words in order to create a rather scary weapon combination. I do agree that they are very solid 5ss models, no problem there, i just didn't see the applications during my game with them when there is no other "brilliance-hungry" models.
  14. This week-end i've tested 2 Beckoners in a Zoraida crew. While they were not particularily bad, they didn't accomplish much, and i suspect this is due to the lack of synnergy outside of a Jacob Lynch crew. No one else can use the brilliance they spread. Granted, i didn't use a melee heavy crew this time, so perhaps the Come Hither spell didn't play its part as much as it should. Have any of you tried them in a non-Lynch crew yet? what were your results?
  15. As stated above, the hag is just good at pretty much everything without being extreme either. Since you seem to like the swamp, the silurids go very well with her (they are good minions). Zoraida is my favorite official master because she allows you to pick whatever minion you like and still be effective. I don't really like taking bayou gremlins due to the extra cost involved though. There's also a nasty combination when you need dire measures: Stitched together and Doppleganger around Zoraida? Let's see how a Wp10 Gamble your life suit your opponent's threat (mimic Wp10 from the hag, Mimic Gamble your life) . I found the doppleganger useful for Ill Omens alone, sometimes giving Zoraida the opportunity to "Conduit" a foe before it hides. Her avatar is very interesting too, in my opinion. The opportunity to use her Bayou Two Card on any of your minion cause a turn of events easily. The only model in her box that doesn't really interact with Zoraida is Bad JuJu as he can't be forced to "obey". As for future developments, you might want to look at effigies.
  16. I agree with Use Soulstones being the big deal here. I even believed that it had too much impact in the game to my tastes, a while ago. Reactivate is strong, sure...but it doesn't happen often and when it does, it is usually with a big price tag (Stitched have to die before activating anyway, Nurses will kill the models, etc). I don't know of a reactivate that comes as a free bonus, but then i don't use/know all models. What i mean is that "reactivate" is an effect, not an ability, and the abilities that give it tend to imply an additional cost. This leads me to think that (Fast) is the 2nd big one, as you can choose what to do with the extra AP.
  17. Wyrd can go in any direction it wants from here, a) Since they published a 1.5 rulebook, they could go for a 1.5 rising powers as well (lots of FAQed stuff from book 2), and it would give a spot for the rule revision of some models (master hamelin, nekima, etc) to be officially printed. There can be a 5th book, as there is still room left to fill with special forces. We already know that a new model for the freikorps will come around, so that's a hint if any. This would allow some development on the fluff and some models (Molly and Nekima get my votes) c) Then there can be a book 2.0 to collect the rules all over, but i get the feeling there will still be new content before this happens.
  18. I think Zoraida is still a great master when played wisely. I would expect your list to do pretty well. Welcome back btw
  19. That'd be great. I am in Quebec, Canada. I wonder how much it'd cost to make it travel across the ocean
  20. Hello, Today i wanted to finish both my Coryphée and the Duet (bought 2 packs) only to find that i am missing an arm (7 out of 8). Since i opened them a few weeks ago to put them on my working table, i assume i lost it somehow. I expect the odds to be low, but if anyone has a spare coryphée arm they would want to sell, i'd be very interested and greateful. Thanks for your time!
  21. The Neverborn are a very diversified faction, and I don't think they're overpowered either, just that maybe unlike other factions, all the masters can be made competitive with their respective minions. Also, some require excellent knowledge of their abilities in order to counter them (especially Pandora, who can be made into an NPE if pushed too far). They have no Molly or Nicodem cases, for example. They still suffer from the traumatic episodes of the Dreamer, Alp Bombs, Pre-cuddle Nekima, stitched together bury shenanigans, etc...and i think alot of people jugdge them with those past things in mind, tagging Neverborn players with the power-players. Lilith is great for starting out and if you like melee mastery Pandora is undeniably powerful in her own psychotic niche The dreamer can definitely still pull some strings in an unusual manner Zoraida is superbly flexible Even Collodi has an avenue to be competitive. Jacob's totem tend to shred stuff alot I think people are too unforgiving when it comes to Neverborn. Besides, the last campaign came out pretty close, and Neverborn didn't wipe the floor at all, nor did they even win. Neverborn are the tricksters of the lot, and people prefer a straight up fight rather than being messed up with unnatural means. They do have very powerful minions though (twins for example), and over-using those might make NB over the hat. In a competitive environment, i can see how this can become problematic (i am very casual).
  22. In my opinion, Hamelin is harder to fix than Nekima, and probably more important for Malifaux as a whole due to the impact and interactions he has (he is a master, has an Avatar model and many minions tailored for him, after all). At worse people see him as a NPE, while Nekima is sometimes seen as a wasted purchase. From what i can tell, both models are playable, that is not the issue...but their performance is either too good in a case (Hamelin) or too limited and out of theme in the other (Nekima).
  23. I support the use of Waldegeist with Lilith...they really stand out as tough minions compared to most Neverborns. They also fit very much with her theme, which for some it might be a good reason to use them. If you pick Nekima, however, Waldegeist compete with Young Nephilims, who can be more interesting due to auto-flay. If i was going for her Avatar, i'd use Lilith, two Waldegeist (12), three Terror Tots (9), Mature (10), Avatar (2) and have 6 SS. My Nekima+Lilith list was: Lilith, Nekima (13), three Rocket Tots (9), Two Young Nephilims (12), 5 SS. That said, nowadays i don't use Nekima and Lilith in the same list, due to fluff considerations (i'm like that).
