  1. A valid point, I would just say from experience that soulstone usage in demo games isn't what it is in true games. Most of the time new players are just trying to shoot each other and maybe a melee or two, which is why I like this setup. Also- the Kaeris player could just as easily dump a Fire Gamin for stones, or agree that the match is for 20ss and have at least one stone.
  2. Hey guys, Up until just recently I have been running demos exclusively with Book 1 masters, and so far it's been good. The problem is- sometimes to balance things out I'm having to make "adjustments" to boxed sets in an attempt to make things play out better (such as dropping Bishop out of the Viks box in favor of Ronin, etc.), and some of the demo crews I run, like Marcus, include next to nothing from the box set. So with the numerous requests for "that hot blind chick with the sword", I bought and painted up the Lady J boxed set, with zero plans of adding anything to it- it is strictly a demo box crew. My plan for a demo is to literally take 2 boxed sets "As Is", drop them on the table, and demonstrate how you can get a reasonable game in just by getting 2 boxes. So guys- forget meta/power gaming considerations for this subject. We're talking 2 new players, each buying a box, and going at it for a few games without buying another mini. I had been struggling with what box would matchup well against Lady J without having to add/grow/change/summon more miniatures, until I had a look at the Kaeris box set. For what I'm trying to do- I think this set will work fine, but I wanted to get more feedback on this. Despite being a henchman- her box set works out to 24-henchman #5 = 19ss, the exact value of the Lady J set. What do you guys think?
  3. Me too! We have great taste in games! ;p Welcome to the forums!
  4. Actually yes. The next section will start putting these key ideas together- call it a big picture for how it all looks when you are playing. Should be available within a week or so.
  5. Thanks for the compliments. When I started Collette, I read the pullmyfinger wiki like 20x , but it took even longer to get the main ideas down because I was trying to memorize things. I put the series together to help my neice understand the key concepts behind the crew, which don't really look powerful until you see the pieces come together.
  6. For comparative power I think Kirai. Perdita, something pretty quick or killy. like the Viks.
  7. Yep. And if you bash with the mannequin you can potentially save more than 2 showgirls, using illusionist and even disappearing act to get them out of harm's way.
  8. During Collette's activation- you move Collette, but leave the Mannequin where it is. Here's a quick diagram: X = Collette Y = Mannequin Q = Other Showgirl. Mannequin activates first, using (0) to link to Colette and any 1 action. YX ------------------------------- Q (trouble) Then Collette activates, uses illustionist to swap with Showgirl: YQ --------------------------------X(trouble) She then uses illusionist again to swap with the mannequin: XQ ---------------------------------Y(trouble) At the end of Collette's activation, the linked mannequin snaps back to her automatically: XYQ <---------------------- (trouble) You can do this in a single activation, or split it up. 9. Crew is looking great! They have kind of an anime' feel to them. Can't wait to see them all based and ready to go. I love the models so much I may pick up another set just to mess around with alternate color schemes, lol.
  10. For those of you in sunny Southern California, SoCal is a great place for a lot of things: good weather, plastic surgery, rampant superficialism, bad reality TV, smog... But despite our huge population and flare for the ridiculous, it can be a challenge to find your fellow Malifaux/Puppet Wars players. But we're out here! So if you're a SoCal Malifaux player, check out our Facebook group http://www.facebook.com/?m2w#!/groups/230044713721864/ PM me or twenty4seven and we'll add you to the group. With so many hobby shops in SoCal, we bounce around a bit, and there's more going on besides our slew of official events. This is a good way of finding a network of local players, or finding more people to play. Check out SoCal Malifaux and get your game on!
  11. Looking good so far! Bright colors and very clean.
  12. Honest opinion here- I think these look good. I'm no pro either but I'd be happy to see these minis on the field- keep em coming!
  13. I've been running demos of PW side-by-side with Malifaux, and I've seen more interest in Malifaux. Current Malifaux players tend to try PW out, but the board game players seem more gun-shy about it because of the price and the prospect of painting mini's. New prospective Wyrd customers seem most interested in Malifaux, probably because I'm running demos at hobby stores and true tabletop is the bigger draw there. In the next few weeks I plan on doing more private demos with a "non-tabletop" crowd in mind. I played my first couple of games with my wife (youtube vid below, and yes there are many rules errors in it!) who is 100% non-gamer, and she really enjoys the game. In fact, everyone who has demo'd the game with me has really enjoyed it, so I'm looking at veteran gamers who play it as a side-game and non-table gamers playing it as sort of a gateway to the hobby. 14. I'll try to head down sounds like fun!
  15. Last week to sign up head down to GMI today or PM me to sign up!
  16. SoCal'ers, It's not to late to sign up! You can PM me here or head down to GMI Games and bring a friend! Beginners and players of all skills welcome. Come on down and meetup with more SoCal Malifaux players!
  17. I should spend some time thinking this over. I think it's more a function of how big of a crew you could run with this upgraded henchman. For example, maybe you take a unique 5-7ss model with some crazy ability that is balanced by a high or restrictive CC. Suddenly with use Soulstone this once balanced ability can be used more frequently and reliably, and being way under 10SS, this model now has plenty of soulstones to take them over the top. That's all I was thinking really. Maybe this scenario doesn't happen, but I thought I'd throw it out there and maybe someone else on the forums may have a specific example. Honestly though- I really love the idea. I think some of the less-used uniques or rare 1's come out and lead crews. For example, I'd love to see a Myranda crew, like "Marcus ultra-light", or a Cassandra crew, etc.
  18. I try to stay mobile for Southern California because everything here is sooo spread out. That said, I have yet to venture that far down to try and get some Malifaux going. If you are near OC or Riverside at any time though- I can help you find games/groups to game with. Let me know if you ever venture up this way and I can arrange to meet up with you- or the next time I'm in San Diego I can try to contact you.
  19. Thanks for the compliments guys! I have time to paint, but now I want more time to play!
  20. Is she based on a real person? She is very believable to me. I think some of us writers (myself included) have a hard time breaking out of stereotypical female characters, and I think you pulled it off very well. Great work!
  21. No, go the other way. Add construct, undead, beast, and mercenary and the only complaints we'll hear is that nobody can keep them in stock! :boom:
  22. I've laminated all my cards and since I have my own laminator I went overboard and laminated all the card counters too, lol. I just felt the card stock used for the exhausted counters, etc. was a bit flimsy and may tear especially since I'm using mine for demos.
  23. I agree on the Misdemeanor. She is fun and adds ranged to the crew which is great all-around. Your point about needing the masks is a good one too, but for the most part Coryphee and to a lesser extent Cassandra are generating their own masks, so your main concern is getting masks for the Performer. That said- Miss Demeanor should still work fine and is a fun addition. For 9 points on this crew, Taelor is "ok" but you may find once you get the hang of the crew that she gets left behind or may seem redundant for her cost. If you're just in it for the all female crew then she works, and for fun you might consider swapping her out occasionally for a ronin and a desperate merc just to beef model count for your female-only crew. I've thrown these models in for fun and as long as you don't expect them all to be as good as true Showgirls you may enjoy them.
