  1. i generally try and avoid anything Arcanist... i think the colette box is more "worth it" though... but i reckon she ain't your choice of playstyle.
  2. Which is why, most of the time it might be better to use 2 AP to move (and hence able to bend around corners) and use 1 AP from melee master to melee an enemy than to charge. But LJ has that flexibility because she has a GS and Sword Stance to aid her. Throw in a Friekkorp Trapper or Student of Conflict, masters like her just go nuts. xD
  3. Objective grabber = Watcher. Especially if objectives are on the wide. Personally, I don't bother with Ortegas unless I am running Perdita. But even when running her, I give all the Ortegas a miss. lol! I squeeze more out of the crew / ss without Ortegas because you pay a premium for the "Ortega" branding.
  4. neat review. i got a KR case myself (just the cardboard box + foam). it is holding up very well. because i live in the tropics, it is not as cold and wet as lets say Britain, so i am not as sure if it holds out in that kind of climate (or if gets wet from rain). does anybody here accidently gotten their KR cardboard multicase wet from rain before?
  5. my advice is to either pick up lady justice or perdita as a 2nd master. gives you more flexiblity when you flip your strategy. double austringers has always been the 2 pillars of the guild crews that i play.
  6. 50% coverage of table for tables over here.
  7. hasslefree miniatures for me. i used two of their miniatures as desperate mercs.
  8. Don't worry, you didn't. =) I did try to make it work and only when I did make it work, I didn't like the direction it ended up. However, the experience did allow me to make a personal judgement of the faction with relation to the masters, minions and what the design team was trying to do. And I didn't like it. I still have yet to try out Ramos, got the models and all... but I find Arcanists so aggravating to play after a long day at work. Only 3 minions from Rezzors catch my eye. Steampunk Zombies, Rotten Belles and Night Terrors. The rest are quite meh.
  9. i started malifaux with rasputina and the learning curve was too steep for me. i knew about how much better NB crews were and some of the stuff back then was pretty much broken (alp bomb etc). although it is much better now, a few things about the faction still erks me. than again.... NB is the home team. i made the switch to Guild and started enjoying the game more because i took part actively in more phases of the game. i have a few friends who play Rezzers actively and from observing and playing against them, i can attest that McM is the best Rezzer master. i totally disregard Kirai because like someone else said, most of the models meant for her aren't even undead! i think Rezzers is a cool faction. however, McM is the only master worth playing for me... i wanted to get into Rezzers via McM too... but my policy of having 2 masters per faction (for versatility) took a hit because the cross over minions are too few.
  10. one of the local lads played collodi + zoraida + voodoo doll tonight. we gave him a hard time with some constant ribbing. lol
  11. I like what Wyrd is doing at the moment. But I am worried about how this system will evolve in the future (will it turn out like other TTMG systems) or will it manage to avoid all the negative things that forced me to leave those other systems. An idea I have for Wyrd is for them to expand their catalog into merchandising (t-shirts, cups etc) so that their bottom line is less dependent (or at least take some heat off) their main sales, which is miniatures based. I don't really agree with this... My only peeve is its pretty much Neverborn versus "Everybody else". Although for "fluff" reasons it is Neverborn versus "Everybody else", that I can understand... but certain mechanics that is directly derived from Neverborn pretty much make games unplayable AND unfun. But other than that, I think everything is looking pretty good. Not to deliberately be a nag... but like I said, I worry about the future direction of the company. Expanding my opinion of Wyrd's progress of the Malifaux system at the moment, I really enjoy the Malifaux background. The no dice system I also greatly enjoy. The cheating mechanic is ace. Also, it being a low model count game (if you stay within the 30 - 35 ss range) players can finish their crews easily and quickly, even more so if you are already a veteran of other systems. I always felt that this is the biggest draw to the system. This and also the fact that you have to paint very few repeated models of the same type. This adds to the boost to the hobby aspect of the system. Painting Malifaux miniatures actually rekindled the joy of painting miniatures for me... those of you who have grinded through 70 Space Marines / Elves / Goblins / Orks know what I am on about... Also, the active moderators in this forum keep its customer / fan base close to the company and are ready to answer concerns quickly. I can say for certain that the Malifaux community do not feel abandoned or disfranchised by the owners of the system.
  12. Do not forget to have Friekkorp Specialist and Student of Conflict in your sideboard. They make effective additions to speed up or give your crew more versatility to deal with different crew / master types.
  13. hope your opponent won't rage quit when he finds out about the more ridiculously overpowered stuff out there... :-|
  14. The LJ player is doing it wrong. You can't play her as if she is Lilith.
  15. WORD. I am so gonna bookmark this thread... i have been looking for Ramos tips for quite some time and this thread pretty much have what I am looking for!
  16. i magnetize the spiders by gluing the spiders on a piece of flex-metal and attach magnets on to the bases. problem is i can only fit 2 spiders per 60 mm base and am too lazy to make it fit 3. so as long as your opponent don't mind 2 spiders instead of 3 on the big base (or there is no official ruling as such) its okay. as for a to buy list, mythicfox is quite spot on.
  17. hmm correct me if i am wrong but does hard cover also grant the target +1 armor?
  18. however, if u would to activate the Aussy to shoot the Silurid and ignore cover is taken away, does that mean the Silurid gets hard cover? after all... you are shooting the Silurid that is behind "hard cover"
  19. My choice is McMourning and 2 Rotten Belles as base. Not sure what to include in his crew as it differs strategy to strategy. As a disclaimer, i don't own Mcmourning (or any Resser crew) but I had a taste of him whilst playing against the local Resser guys and he rates one of the best in the Resser faction. Haven't faced Kirai yet... well... probably I don't want to! *grin*
  20. True! However, Raspy quickly falls out of favor when she encounters opposition masters with much easier strategies to fulfill which allows them to turtle up and/or exploit their own mobility at the behest of her (Neverborn are very good at this). All in all, having Colette and Marcus to represent your Arcanist faction is good enough if you play competitively. Together they pretty much can fulfill almost any strategy thrown at them.
  21. it takes a bit of dedication from a henchman and his crew to keep a new system like malifaux going in a gaming community that have been spoilt by choices or monopolistic practices of other game systems. the common reasons why players jump to malifaux from other systems is 1. low model count 2. low cost of starting out 3. interesting background 4. need smaller space to play 5. cheating fate mechanic and the common reasons why players leave malifaux is because 1. got competitive too quickly (eg. 5/10 players play neverborn) 2. always the same old faces 3. lack of experimentation 4. weak community bonding 5. players too entrenched in their old systems (esp GW system users) the malifaux players here are mostly also war machine / horde players or veteran GW system users. when it comes to table top gaming, most people's entry point is GW because that is what most of the store push. but it is not difficult for people to make the transition to PP/Wyrd because to many people, the draw of having a low model count system is too good an idea to pass over! *grin*
  22. of all the masters in the arcanist faction i'll rate them (in order of power) 1. colette 2. marcus 3. ramos 4. rasputina colette gets 1st place because she has tremendous synergy with her coryphees but it takes some going to use them properly because of the walloftext rules on their cards. she is near untouchable if you are experienced with her. she is probably the most mobile of all the arcanist masters. marcus and ramos are very strong masters mainly because of the wealth of choices you can choose to include as their crew. marcus has good synergy with anything that is a beast and ramos has good synergies with constructs (not as good as hoffman though). marcus is also very mobile. he ranks up there with colette in terms of mobility. rasputina gets last place because she works well with very few minions. by herself, she is quite powerful but she is useless if alone. her december crews are overpriced for what they can do... and the worst thing is that although logically, she should be able to conjure ice gamins (only her avatar can do this atm) she has no way of getting her crew back when they die but i guess that is the price for game balance. although snow storm relieves some of the mobility issues for her and her crew, she still suffers from a low model count crew.
