  1. Hello everyone! After being involved in the game for a while, my friend and I (MyMetalPony) on the forums, have decided to put our heads together and share our thoughts about Malifaux and miniatures in a podcast, both for our local players and anyone else that wants to listen. Episode One: Welcome to Malifaux! is probably going to be a bit basic for most of the people here already on the forum, as its a quick look at each faction thematically and how you can expect them to come at you usually. Our second episode, 10 Thunders and Dual Faction Craziness we are hoping to have some more insight that would be useful to the community as a whole, and as we keep going and the beta winds down, start really focusing on individual questions like scheme choice and things. We would love to have your feedback, good or bad, since we want this thing to be useful to someone else out there. The podcast is at http://positivetwistminis.podomatic.com/entry/2014-01-15T19_54_06-08_00 Its being posted out of my gaming blog, Sprites and Dice at SpritesandDice.Blogspot.com If you want to give us feedback somewhere besides here, you can at positivetwistminis@gmail.com Thank you!

Every Thursday night at Dragon's Den in Poughkeepsie (http://www.gamersgambit.com/) is host to multiple games of Malifaux starting at 5:30. The community is open and growing still, and we always welcome new faces. Its a great time for them as well, as 2.0 is now being played, and we already have a few new players excitedly waiting for the books to come in. We also usually have a copy of Evil Baby Orphanage, and I'm looking to find people to try out my just received 'Jetpack Unicorn' game... We play until store close at 9, so plenty of time to have fun! Hope to see you there, and if you are interested in finding out about all of our events and our community, feel free to look up 'Hudson Valley Malifaux' on Facebook. I'm happy to say we have a lot of new and returning players recently, and look forward to adding more to our ranks.

  9. Hey Rathpex, congrats on getting into the game - its in the middle of a huge change right now, and with the start of a new edition, definitely a good time to get in on it! In terms of fluff, a lot of it is spread out through the 4 1st edition rulebooks, talking about the Masters, the state of the world... if you have a friend that you know is into Malifaux, see if you can borrow the first rulebook, because it sets up the background well. In terms of newer 'fluff', the Wyrd Chronicles are a great place to get it from. Also, Tara is actually a Master that was 'made' from the Winter campaign at the start of the year. Tara can, as an upgrade, be able to hire the Death Marshalls - a lot of people are setting her up to take them as an upgrade, so you have some nice cross-over in your armies already for plenty of different styles. Maybe some 'new person tips' I could think of - Lady J was considered one of THE starter boxes in first edition because she was a straight forward crew, like a lot of guild ends up being - go in guns blazing, sword out and at the ready. She's great for that. However, Malifaux is an amazing game because the game's schemes and strategies are very varied, and it is possible to win in some situations without having a very aggressive crew. Don't be afraid to take other approaches to the game, and just have fun with it. Each of the armies you have picked up is dangerous for completely different reasons. Enjoy that, and don't get good with just one crew, but a few - you'll be a better player if you learn that way. I hope you enjoy, and have some people to learn the game with!
  10. Dragon's Den in Poughkeepsie has been absolutely awesome to us here in the Hudson Valley, and on this upcoming weekend, they are going a little further. Friday night, July 9th, they are going to close as usual at 9:30...then reopen at 10:30 PM to let us Miniature Gamers in! Open until 5 AM, we are planning on playing Malifaux throughout the night until 5 AM. Bring your miniatures and your snacks, whether its your first time coming or your hundredth - we are always looking for new players! 19. Live in New York, and want some casual gaming, be it Malifaux or anything else? The NPC is a student-run small convention at SUNY New Paltz which runs a gym full of gaming projectors, a room of board games, and mixed with events like LARP Boffer Tournaments and cuddle Human Vs. Zombie games. This year, we are hosting six gaming tables for Malifaux that will stay up for the full weeking. On Saturday, 11/3, there will be open gaming and demonstrations from 3-7. Both myself and fellow Henchmen will be giving On Sunday, we will be hosting a 2-round tournament from 2-6. Just arrive before 2 to register and pay to enter! The Convention is a great deal, as its only $6 to enter for all of the events. The information for the NPC is given below on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/190328067768990/ Here is their schedule of events: http://i.imgur.com/uNul1.jpg Here are the specifics for the tournament: -$10 entry. Please come register before 2 PM to help speed up the process. -Prizes are $30/$20/$10 in store credit for Dragon's Den, the Poughkeepsie Gaming Store. They will be on sight selling wares at the convention! If we get 10+ people for the tourney, we will be giving a Miss Terious as first place! -There is an included painting contest with the entry fee. Take any 30mm miniature and enter it for a possible $10 prize. -It will be a 2 round tournament, not a three round, due to restricted time. -It is based on Gaining Ground rules, and the Differentiation format - the more VP you score, and the less you allow your opponent, the better. -It will be a 30 soulstone tournament. Come with a set Soulstone list of 30, with a 'sideboard' of 15 points you can substitute in when you see the terrain you will be playing on or learn what the strategy is or what faction your opponent is playing. -Please come with paint on your models and completed as best as you can. Scratch-built proxies and conversions will be allowed, but only if they are an exception to your team, not the rule. We look forward to seeing you there at SUNY New Paltz!
  20. I did it to Von Schill when it was being used as a Henchman, not a Master. The utter look of shock on their face...
  21. Question about the Drain Souls trick: Is that really possible? I mean, its supposed to be friendly models you drain. So, taking the opponent's Master... is that legal to drain souls with them like that?
  22. Reviving this thread because well, Kaeris just got a whole lot more interesting. The new book really opens things up. Rail workers, rail golem, and Willie for starters, not to mention Kang. For burning token tricks that work with Kaeris: rail workers and Willie. Willie's dynamite can trigger burning tokens if you have tomes in your hand. It's a nice touch, on top of everything else he brings to the table. Rail workers though might become a new workhorse though for their 0 act, 'shovel faster', which dishes out burning tokens in a def duel. Neither of these choices are slouches for damage either, Willie using blasts and the rail workers having Swiss army limbs to use on what you need. The Rail Golem is a beast that can become an alternate way to use burning token tricks. H ges better and better as he takes tokens onto him? I foresee fun times of using rail workers to charge him up while Kaeris isn't around, while you are still positioning. Kang I think you can also take...and he is... Beastly. You might think he is a good alternate for Johan. He is in many ways, except his shovel doesn't ignore armor and isn't magical. However... If you have Kang and keep his aura up, Johan is going to have a 8 cb! 8. Take your gunsmiths and some things that drop burning tokens for Kaeris and support, and just watch the hammer bros. cause a scene on some poor soul.
  23. So, as someone who has been wanting to, but nervous to start, a full on Marcus crew, I'm ready to take the plunge. Been doing a lot of dabbling in reading about crews and techniques, so now... Questions! -Avatar. I like some of his tricks, but is it worth it? Heard its a little too Soulstone and card reliant by some. -is the Arcane effigy a good fit for him? The extra 1 for casting sounds great for alpha tricks while still having some tricks in combat. -the new Oni Beast in Book 4 seems insane, and can easily replace the Cerberus, Blessed, and most 8 point beast models. Why would I want anything else? -Night terrors seem like the best objective grabbers, since they have flight, spirit, and their blind can shut down anybody's day. I believe that's the general concensus? My 25 ss crew idea: 3 night terrors Oni (blessed of december until it comes out) Gunsmith Jackalope Or, remove gunsmith and jackalope to take effigy with the avatar. Do these sound plausible?
  24. Gunsmiths are now an auto-include for almost any list I have, just because of what they bring to the table. Armor Piercing is a wonderful thing, as just recently I took two with Colette when fighting a Hoffman crew. They may not 'fit' with the Master theme as much as other models, but the ranged back up that can be modded for most situations makes them just so useful.
  25. The tactics for Willie are actually a bit different. From what I know of Pere and Loco, the goal is to get them in for that one big bang, followed by a death rattle/explosion. If you look at Willie, his death burst doesn't do nearly as much damage... but you can direct it. I didn't get to that point though with him and he still did an obscene amount of damage. The 0 act 'set charge' really sets him apart because you can use it for board control or a deterrent for people charging through them at you, especially if they don't want to take a risk. Meanwhile, Bombardier means that if you are fighting low Def crews, you can park behind a wall or rock and huck dynamite from a safe distance. The dynamite ignores armor AND object (Something becoming increasingly important), and to top it off, he can use it in melee with a hilarious trigger. Don't get me wrong, he's got a great last attack when he dies, but you are going to want to be in just the right place, with a good set of high cards to chain the blast markers out where you want to go. Its a move you do AFTER they've been softened up by a bombardment and some mines going down on the table. ...Side note, my second game with Willie didn't go well. He ran straight at Nino with no cover. Bad things happened.
