Just off the train... My journey into Malifaux
Beaker replied to Angels_blade's topic in Miniature Showcase
Well your models look very well painted, first thing. Have to be honest though - this thread officially seals it for me that I will not ever be using the new transparent bases to hold models. Tokens and counters maybe (and that's a big maybe) but otherwise not s fan. Like I said though - your actual painted models look really fantastic! -
Complete Fluff, who would you like to see play Masters
Beaker replied to Hardlec's topic in Faction Discussion
Perhaps so but she doesn't look like she's nineteen or thereabouts, which is what Perdita is basically described as. If you could somehow time travel her 1990's self into the film, then we would be in business lol. -
It certainly would effect the posability of the arms. For example the way you have them right now, Lazarus could not put his arms down at his sides if they were rigid. The whole model was made with flexibility mind, so of course that was the reason for the bendy plastic. Plus doesn't the color Wyrd artwork show the hoses in a dark solid color? But hey, it's your model, not mine -if you dig that look, then that's cool with me
-
Actually the model happens to be pretty awesome, but I have to say that leaving the hoses unpainted was a bad plan. You realize that is not how it's intended to be right? The way you have it makes it really look like a toy rather than a miniature. Kind of the same problem that GW Necrons have. They are only done in that squishy plastic so they can be posed and flexed.

See, people always say this (don't start learning the game with a Henchman) but really I don't think it's such a big deal. All these supposed extra rules... you basically just described in a single paragraph. It's not exactly as though Using Henchmen as your Master is terribly complicated. Frequently, Henchmen have fairly straightforward rules, which would be excellent to learn the game on. For example, I would easily recommend Kaeris or Von Schill as great starter sets for learning on, simply because they can be played in a straightforward manner quite successfully.

Beaker's workshop - my attempt at a painting/modeling blog

Hey folks... Here is my first attempt at doing up some sort of painting blog. I paint reasonably well, and always get results that I am fairly happy with, but I always forget to document my progress along the way. This is my attempt to fix that. I figure I shall start off with my Leveticus crew and perhaps some terrain projects, and then just go from there! Took a while figuring out a basing scheme for this time. Went with a combination of gravel ground, wood planking, and steam pipes. I figure that gets a decent "steampunk in the badlands" sort of look. At this time I am unsure of a color scheme to paint the basing however - either I will do it up in yellow and browns, to capture a Wild West sort of flavor, OR I shall do it up in more washed out grey tones, hoping to capture more of a Tim Burton wasteland sort of flavor. We shall see... And these are some converted Steapunk Abominations - just part of my quest to have no duplicate models I took some care in selecting appropriate zombie models, as the original Wyrd SPA's are fairly small and spindly. I didn't want anything from Privateer Press, for example, as they are far too burly and chunky to represent SPA's very well. Overall I am happy with these guys. The left hand SPA is converted with one a leg from PP's model, Mortenebra, while the right hand guy is basically modified with Green Stuff and plasticard And for this guy... no offense to Wyrd as they typically do fantastic models... but I absolutely loath the Desolation Engine model. In the fluff it's described as this nightmare combination of steel and necrotic flesh. In the actual model, it pretty much just looks like a fairly generic "big ogre guy" from any miniature company. So I thought I would try my hand at sculpting it from scratch. Everything is sculpted by yours truly, except for the saw hand, which is from a GW Ork dreadnought PS - I know the DE is supposed to have "Paired" claws as a weapon, and this guy obviously has only one arm (so not so much the paired lol). But his attacking weapon is with a spinning circular saw - I figured that would a reasonable way to represent the extra positive twist on his melee attack

To be fair, I'm not sure if Wyrd makes it very clear on this website. However I would be shocked if this worked differently. Plus my original message sounded a bit curt and rude too, now that I reread it , so that's my bad.
-
There's absolutely no harm in proxying but asking for folks to post copywritten material on the actual company website is never a good idea. It's not only poor manners, but I doubt people are going to help you. This is not a practice unique to Wyrd - it's pretty much your basic forum policy for any game company you would care to name that maintains a message board. Posters can speak in general terms about models, but no posting actual stats, and ESPECIALLY no posting photos of book pages or stat cards. If you want to see the stats, I'm afraid you will probably have to buy the book like everyone else.

I'm sorry but that's not going to happen as its against forum etiquette. If you want to see stats, buy book three.

GREMLINS - Advice on making a TT/asian themed gremlin crew?
Beaker replied to *Jack*'s topic in The Outcasts
Supposedly Wyrd is coming out with actual Asian themed gremlins (besides the guy in the new book that is). Or at least more amusing gremlin parodies, as I'm fairly certain that was stated. I suppose that doesn't help you right now, but just FYI. -
Well you folks have certainly given me cause to rethink my SPA purchasing strategy, that's for sure. Initially (months ago) when I was getting my Leveticus crew, I had planned on purchasing SPA's with Soulstones - they seemed useful, and fairly thematic for Leveticus and as a bonus, the models had the right combination of gross-out factor and weirdness that appealed to me. However the prevailing opinion at the time was that it wasn't really worth it to spend SS on SPA's, so I started looking for other options. Of course I will definitely get a bigger model pool eventually, but I think for now, I will start off with the "basic" array of models until I figure out the quagmire that is Leveticus. I will probably take like 3 or so SPA's with the intent of using some as Contort points for Ashes & Dust or maybe just simply forming the Desolation Engine later in the game. Plus I DO have this neat DE conversion I have been working on for a while (not quite done yet). Would be a shame to just leave him in my case, when I can take more solid steps to actually place him in the game on occasion :1_Happy_Puppet2:

Sadly I will never get Collodi since his model is completely hideous. The watcher its certainly on my interest list however. Well I shall have to see

Thanks for all the help guys. I fully realize that getting a large collection of models is the best way to go for accomplishing strategies and such, and I do intend of having an extensive collection at a later date, but for right now, I want my initial Minion purchases to have a decent amount of flexibility so I can get as much bang for my buck as possible, if that makes any sense. After the initial purchases of the basic stuff (waifs, A&D, DE, SPA's) I am thinking Lazarus and some Necropunks might be a good way to go. Lazarus could add some nice ranged support, and the Necropunks seem to be neat objective grabbers, which seems like a useful trait for missions. Will see... ---------- Post added at 08:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:07 AM ---------- Follow up question - how many Steampunk Abominations should I have on deck for summoning? Assume I have all the models capable of making the mutilated little buggers (A&D etc)

Alright so let's say that you have the Leveticus starter box, and also have gotten hold of the fairly important Leveticus pieces too (canine remains, ashes and dust, hollow waif etc). My question is. ..where do you go from there? From what I read, hirin g SPA's on their own isn't the best idea, since they are better of being summoned mid game. In light of this, what should a Leveticus player get next? What should his crew workhorses be comprised of? Trying to figure out what the next most indispensable pieces that Leveticus needs to include in his average crew
