  1. One thing I've seen suggested is using a stand from a GW flying base to give a second point of contact for the model.
  2. So, I was having a think recently about how Santiago and the guardian works, and I got thinking about how Ramos could achieve something similar using a guardian and either myranda (for the flexibility of turning into a shikome or mauler as needed) or a slate ridge mauler. Has anyone tried this? what did they think of it?
  3. the desperate merc has the ability A Last Noble Deed. when its killed it gives a model within 4" a healing flip. Really nice for healing your own guys, or screwing over Leveticus.
  4. take 2 desperate mercs. Turn 1: inferno. knocks them down to 1 wound. turn 2: violation of magic on each -> 2 healing flips, plus 2 witchling stalkers. the turn you want to manifest, (as long as it's not turn 2) you use (0) inferno again, then you manifest and use casting master to violation or cast Pyre.
  5. I have only a single topper for the top layer. Other than that I dont believe it's needed - I've been using the bag for the past year and havent had any issues with the models otherwise.
  6. Just wait two weeks - the new book is based around the 10 thunders, so one would suspect that there will be more than simply two models that are in it for the 10 thunders.
  7. the Viks "may" hire mercenaries. Rusty Alyce may only be hired by scavengers. to hire her, the viks have to comply with all hiring restrictions. Since the only 3 scavenger masters are Ramos, Levi and Hoffman, those three are the only models that can hire her.
  8. doh. shows me, huh. I had forgotten that bit about weigh sins. Its my favourite spell from the whole spirit resser crowd
  9. Snowstorm is incredibly easy to deal with in close combat, depending on faction. For ressers: there are a number of models that excel at dealing with snowstorm. anything that can output a large amount of damage in one activation is good. In particular, Datsue ba and shikome are great. Shikome due to its damage output, while datsu for it's Weigh Sins spell. Weigh sins is particularly good because its a spell (getting past spirit) and does not have a gun symbol (meaning it doesnt worry about cover, and bulletproof does not work against it). One big thing with snowstorm and Eat you fill is that it occurs *after* the model dies. The timing on this means that if you have slow to die, you can use it to get a strike in (and hopefully kill snowstorm) before it gets a chance to heal. In addition, anything with magical weapons can deal with snowstorm quite easily. The big thing to remember with spirit is that odd numbers are great against it. Saying all the above however, the best way to deal with snowstorm is simply to stay out of melee with it until you are ready to kill it, or put something into melee that can survive. anything with spirit or, preferably, hard to kill. For instance, a night terror is a fantastic blocker for snowstorm. Snowstorms weak and moderate damage is 3, meaning that snowstorm needs to do 3 attacks worth of damage (aside from severes) to kill the night terror. Also, remember with (0) Eat your fill that to use it, snowstorm must still have a (0) available, and that it also ends its activation.
  10. Hi folks, For all who are interested, a Malifaux weekend in conjunction with the Skibbereen Wargames Guild is being held on the weekend of july 27th at Russagh Mills, Skibbereen, Ireland. A Malifaux Tournament will be running the friday night, with a demo day running from 10 AM to 6 PM the saturday. For folks interested in attending, accommodation in the Russagh Mills hostel is available for 15 euro per night with free parking. Entry is 5 Euro for players attending the tournament, with all entry fees going towards prizes. start time: Tournament registration is at 5:30, first game starts at 6 pm. Game length: 85 minutes per game. For new players interested in playing who do not have the benefit of their own crews yet, crews will be available to borrow for the tournament. 30SS 3 round event. Fixed faction Accumulation format for placement (tournament points - total victory points - victory point differential) Schemes: All schemes will be available, with the exceptions listed below. However, each scheme is unique, meaning you may take it only once during the tournament. these exceptions are designed to attempt to balance the schemes with the easiest requirements, while expanding the options available to the player. Exceptions: Kidnap: If this scheme is taken, it must target at least one model with a SS cost of 7 SS or more. If there are no models with a cost of 7SS or more in the opponents crew, kidnap must nominate an extra model (which increases the requirements for completion accordingly). If taken, the player must inform the opponent of the most expensive model nominated. Sabotage: this scheme must be announced. Also, VPs are awarded at the end closing phase of the turn *after* the terrain is sabotaged, or the end of the game, whichever comes soonest, within the same criteria as listed in the scheme itself. My Little Friend: the copycat killer must kill a model with a SS cost of 5 or more to gain VPs for this scheme. Strategies: each game will use a shared strategy as follows: game 1: Shared Plant Evidence game 2: Shared Supply Wagon game 3: Shared Claim Jump Prizes for the following, with further prizes depending on attendance: 1st place 2nd place wooden spoon best painted crew If anyone is interested, or knows anyone who might be, please contact me directly via email or PM. cheers -Tograth
  11. I don't think the Lillith win at the Northampton tourny is all that attributable to Lillith being over powered, as opposed to the Lillith player capitalising on the mistake made by their opponent. Since it was Contain power, and everyone else ended up with draws except for the lillith player....well, draw your own conclusions. In addition, I know that Spiku Spiku beat the Lilith player 8-2 (with only Lilith staying alive with 1 wound and 0 soulstones) as well as Calmdown with Som'er, and didn't lose a single game that weekend. Now, Spiku, Calmdown and Pockets all think that gremlins are in need of fixing, but no effort to do so is included in the above pack. I think that using the TC as a testing ground for it should have generated more changes for Som'er and crew, rather than Lillith.
  12. I appreciate your points, and the fact that it has a wide base of experience to draw from helps to make it more even in some respects. With regards your comp pack, I don't actually have that many problems with it overall - its a lot less biased than some others that I have seen, both for malifaux and other systems. I also appreciate the need for some sort of balancing mechanism as things currently stand for Hamelin, as it is one of the top two or three issues I see with malifaux currently. However, what worries me is that comp systems rarely stop once they have begun, even when the initial problems that engendered them are no longer an issue. My fear is that while it may start off small, relatively well balanced and well meaning, it could eventually spiral into something like the absolutely abysmal INATFAQ for 40K. My feelings for malifaux as a whole is that there are relatively few major issues, with Hamelin, collodi and marionettes and turn 1 objective grabbing, unresisted Gremlin damage and card drain, and to a small extent kirai and colette being the major issues. The biggest thing with the above problems is that yes, they are problems, and some of them (in particular Hamelin and Som'er) are in need of fixing. Some sort of interim patch to tide players over is a good idea, especially since Wyrd have stated their intention to revisit a lot of the troublesome models and rules interactions. I simply have concerns about any player made patch, and how it may create more problems down the road for the game system as a whole when Wyrd themselves come around to fixing any issues.
  13. having read through this, I have to state a few points: 1) as a player, I am very much opposed to comp in general, and I find that most (if not all) comp scenarios tend to be quite flawed, and tend to be less than equal in their targeting. 2) I feel that the introduction of any sort of tournament comp, even if it's UK only, is a bad precedent. 3) The changes you are suggesting are...oddly focused. why is Lillith being penalised? she's not quite as powerful as kirai or hamelin are regarded. Also, why do nicodem and seamus receive little or no benefit, when ramos and tina do? why is there no change to Som'ers unresisted stuff (all they really need is a resist TBH)? Having said the above, as an idea, the scenarios you suggest are interesting. stages 1 and 3 I generally do not have a problem with - stage 1 fixes most of the current major perceived problems in the game. Stage 2 is a bit weird, and is oddly focused. Stage 3 - most of these seem to be ok, although I'm leery of such drastic changes. All told, I have to say that I dont think comp is a good idea at all, regardless of how well intentioned it is. Once a system starts using comp, even if it is limited, it gets very obtuse very fast. Everyone starts thinking that they are entitled to make their own comp, and furthermore, that *their* brand of comp is better than anyone elses. I've never seen a comp system that did more good than harm. *never*, and I did quite an indepth review of various comp systems about 18 months ago for myself and some of the other players in my local meta, for a variety of different systems. Another thing with comp is that its also unnecessary. Wyrd have repeatedly stated that a lot of the Big Issue models and crews (Hamelin etc, marionettes and collodi, etc) are on the block for changes. A little bit of patience is all thats really needed - wait till after Gencon, when things start to quieten down and the new folks get up to speed, and I can bet that a lot (if not all) of the problems will get sorted out.
  14. The UK tournament scene is actually relatively small. Theres, what, 30 players nationwide who play in the more than one or two very local tournaments? On top of that, the group of players who regularly find themselves placing in the top 5 or 10 are all the same players. I'm afraid that regardless of what you might hope, it *is* a meta. With regards bias, you know my feelings there. It's more than obvious by the blatant rezzer buffs, gremlin cuddles, and, bizarrely, the distinct lack of effective marcus buffs. It is the last point that makes it clear how biased it is, since the distinct lack of marcus buffs is glaring when compared to raspy or ramos. The only reasoning for this that I can see is a very strong marcus player in your meta (UKrocky).
  15. Reading through these, some of them make sense. Only a few however. Many of these seem....ill advised, some seem aimed in the wrong direction, and the majority seem to be aimed at Cuddling strong crews in your local meta, or buffing your own crews. I do have to ask though, did those nasty gremlins touch you in a bad place? for instance: the overall destruction of gremlins after your recent near loss to a UK renowned gremlin player. the lack of any change to Marcus, and the changes to a lot of his beasts which seemed to get a lot less buffing than equivalent rezzer models. the purely anti rezzer cuddles to von schill. the fact that not a single rezzer got a cuddle. as I said at the start, I think some of these ideas are valid, but the majority seem to be heavily biased.
  16. For melee attacks only, elevation comes into effect. For ranged attacks however, you simply measure horizontal distance, regardless of elevation.
  17. Sezar has it - maximum you can flip is 4 cards in any set, so max 3:+fate or 3:-fate
  18. Angelica is really nice for the willpower bonus, as is Sue for his spell that prevents models being Obeyed.
  19. Logic, that wont work. Ramos simply removes the restriction on only taking 2 special forces members. It doesnt remove the restriction on only a single type of special forces. This means that you can either take the effigy (special forces Doll) *or* kaeris (special forces M&SU assets), but not both.
  20. You have to declare a charge. It doesnt mean that the model you charge has to be in range. Simply charge an enemy model, move your Cg towards them, and hope they are outside your melee range.
  21. No. Gunslinger only allows you to make melee attacks with the ranged weapon, it doesnt extend your melee range to 2" except in those circumstances. This means that the melee range of the gunmith is 1" (its bash range) when it isnt actively attacking.
  22. the problem is that the folks complaining about HTW and the red joker are consistently and repeatedly ignoring the fact that HTW2 also massively increases the chances of weak damage. Moving from HTW to HTW2 gives something like a 15% increase in the likelihood of weak damage (to about 75% iirc), whereas it increases the chances of a red joker by less than 3%. The red joker isnt an actual issue, more than a perceived issue.
  23. Hi folks, For all who are interested, a Malifaux Tournament will be running the friday night of NWG. Fixed faction Accumulation format for placement (tournament points - total victory points - victory point differential) Schemes: schemes will be core schemes only. However, each scheme is unique, meaning you may take it only once during the tournament. Strategies: each game will use a shared strategy as follows: game 1: Shared Plant Evidence game 2: Shared Supply Wagon game 3: Shared Claim Jump Prizes for the following: 1st place 2nd place wooden spoon best pained supply wagon best painted crew The Mike's Luck Award (For the worst luck in a single turn) If anyone is interested, or knows anyone who might be, please contact me directly via email, or via PM (on the w-ired.org or wyrd boards) or by posting directly to the relevant threads. cheers -Tograth
  24. Dgraz, I feel your pain. the other day, I flipped the black joker 8 times over 6 turns. I cycled through my deck on two turns, and the black joker came up twice in each of them. During the same game, the highest card i drew during the draw phase all game was an 11. after that it was a 7. after that *everything* else was below a 5. every turn.
  25. hmm. One thing with the electrical creation as well, is that its Unique. This means that, while you *can* try to summon one again, it'll auto fail if the first one is still on the board. Pandora is indeed very tough to deal with. A good way to deal with her is by using kaeris to first stick burning counters onto one of the sorrows, followed by her spell that generates blasts. Since blasts do no target, you dont need to test to hit pandora, and theres no way for her to prevent the damage other than using soulstones to reduce it. a couple of casts of that can really knock the winds out of pandoras sails. As well as that, remember that Incite and Pacify will only allow pandora to push if the opponents models are targetted. This means that, while she is still mobile, you dont need to worry about her pushing off of her own models for it. Another thing to remember is that it only takes a single passes incite or pacify to stop the chain and stop pandora from moving around.
