  1. Well, marcus is a bottum tier master. There isnt any denying it at this point or your just living in your own world. It's completely common knowledge. And Colette doesn't hit as hard as marcus, but she is a monster with magicians duel and her doves. As fast as marcus is, her crew is still faster.
  2. He is worse than his regular form, I've play tested him several times.

  6. Hello there, Shawn again. Well I ended up going to GenCon this weekend signed up for the Master of malifaux and the story event. I brought rasputina and marcus, hoping to take advantage of the new avatar form marcus had. Well, lets just say I'm completely and utterly dissapointed and I will try to go in depth as to why. Lemme turn around and get book 3 out of my backpack before I continue this post. Might as well bring out book 1 for comparison. So, everyone knows marcus's crew problems, He is just alittle slower than collette's crew with not as much damage output as rasputina. Still I do pretty well with him. I think personally he would be so much better with even just nimble. Not fast, as I think that would be asking too much and make him too good at certain strategies and schemes. So basically to become a avatar you gotta either hit someone with your built in primal reaction trigger or cast feral twice. That's all good, you can pretty consistantly bring out avatar marcus on turn 3-6 every game. What does it get you though? Not much in my personal opinion. So avatar marcus, I paid like 30 something bucks for this single model I thought was going to be a must have. Looking to my right at book 3, he doesnt change alot. Gains 1 wp, 1 base df, 1 wd.Companion two beasts, You get flight, +1 cb to beasts, fast. I don't wanna explain chimeric assaulst but its just terribad. God awful bad. Evolution confluence is a spell he gets to make it better but you need a 8 or better of books and It becomes 3/4/6 with poison 2. Onslaught trigger. There are non master models with damage output similar to that. Then he gets instinctive behavior which requires a Ram, and Roar which requires a Book. Honestly, I think instinctive behavior followed by roar are his strongest abilities and needs, perhaps nimble on top of fast to help with schemes, or a serious bump to something. Your playstyle with marcus doesnt change at all. He loses what makes him barely playable and thats wildheart, which is where he gains all his speed from. This isnt completely comprehensive complaint, just the highlights. You have to pay two points for it and either engage a model in combat or waste a 1ap to use feral. Basically this Ugly model, with a terrible face by the way, is a complete waste of money in my opinion because the rules don't make marcus much better except in the combat area if you can get onslaught going. And in many ways he is much weaker. Especially in the speed department, which wins games. 99 percent of the time you don't even have to kill a model to win a strategy or a scheme, and if its announced he is most likely too slow to catch it. I didn't play with rasputina all weekend, because I wanted to use marcus as much as possible. All I gotta say is there were several raspy players in the bottum rungs of the tournament and mostly neverborn at the top. On her avatar form which is unreleased, I think everything I have to say on her may be expressed by letting you know, she loses decembers curse. And glancing at the rules to my left I can say her avatar is mediocre. Decembers Maw and hungry winds look good. She can summon a gamin, discarding a corpse counter. YAY! Big deal. Watch out now, ice golems get +1 walk. Oh $$$$$$$$. LOok OUT. Basically she is much hard to kill and it'd help once she got in base to base, which was her biggest problem. I still want decembers curse back. Honestly, I didnt even stick around for the story encounter tournament as I was so dissapointed with my performance and the book 3 rules for my crews. The masters whom were already good have amazing rules and marcus and rasputina got the shaft again.

  8. Myranda does get prey as soon as she transforms into the shikome. It's probably best to wait to transform to be able to pick your target to get the combat bonuses.
  9. it's a possibility, though I'm guessing they will probably do more with henchmen in the book after this new one called special forces or something to that effect
  10. I feel that when I play rasputina, you absolutely have to have a countercharge unit such as Joss. Her combat and defense are so low that it is likely that once you enter combat you will waste all your soulstones getting away or not dying. It's much easier to hold joss with 3 or 4 charge counters back and melee whatever has gotten into base with her. if you use joss, his minimum damage with counters becomes probably the highest in the game after 2 or 3 turns.
  11. Between me and and the guy who writes in pink, you can probably learn all you want about marcus. First off, his crew is not super competative if your going against a crew with better rules, unfortunetly that's just how he is. That' being said, in the hands of a experienced player going into a game, you can easily tie someone in points or pull ahead. though many times its not going to just be a landslide unless the other person is ill prepared. Most likely his avatar and a few minions will make him stronger, with book 3 coming out. On another note, marcus can earn you points now, but he isn't a master you can play in a gaining grounds tournament and expect to play all rounds and not switch out to another master and just rape everyone. He's not pandora or the dreamer for sure. Marcus will earn you points for using hold out with molemen, and frame for murder and a few other good schemes. Your gonna have to switch to Colette or rasputina to earn full points using other schemes and strategies. Marcus definitely has to have another arcanist crew to pair with to be successful.   12. yeah, but that 3 inches on the arc for me makes alot of differences. I'd rather get 3 inches cut off the decembers curse just because it gives you that flexibility when moving your other pieces. I was playing dreamer yesterday and if I couldnt have arc'd from 9 inches out he would have been hidden behind height 1 terrain with no fear of resprisal. Ended up having to do a double move on a gamin and then use a general Ap with rasputina just to barely get him in LOS

  16. The way I explain the power curve is, some crews are so well balanced like collette, lord chompy bits , and pandora that they seem more powerful than they are.
  17. The arcanists except for Colette are somewhat one dimensional because they are from book 1 and need to be paired to switched out to complete many schemes. The game is balanced extremely well, you just have to focus on what schemes are good for your crew. Again except for collette, they are super easy to learn.

  19. The guy who made the game already said he made marcus underpowered because it was his favorite character. He hinted that he will bring him up to par with this book
  20. Definitely alot of good tips and strategies I hadn't thought about. I think there was some debate as to whether or not you use a action point for the strike on the coryphee while they are moving. Nobody has said anything in regard to that, so i'm assuming it doesn't. I'll be at GenCon doing tournaments all saturday. If I don't spend all my money on puppet wars or book3+ new gangs, Will probably pick up Colette. Thanks for your time -shawn
  21. Hello there, I'm a avid arcanist player. Specifically I use alot of different variations on Marcus and Rasputina. I hear Colette is rather good, as far as completing objectives using movement and staying alive. Well that's what I use marcus for in tournaments, so should I get Colette's crew, apart from being awesome. Keep looking at magician's duel which I admit seems amazing, but keep going right back to that three inch range. Well, how the hell do you hit people that that consistantly. Granted i've never played against that crew and only have seen it played once out of the corner of my eye. Also the stats on the coryphee's sound good and A+ ability wise, but they just seem underwhelming. Basically 3 attacks max, damage medicre, paired 7. I don't know, maybe they are much better than marcus at being mobile etc, just don't see what they can do that marcus can't do almost as well. If not better. Throw some strategy at me, show me connections i'm not seeing. Whatever. Thanks for your time - Shawn
  22. I like that you tried something different with rasputina, and your list seems very innovative. if you could though, try to post more of the interactions between models during your game. It could provide valuable insight.
  23. I play the arcanist myself, specifically rasputina and marcus. I have found that usually in a tournament and casual games, I pick my crew after flipping for strategies. Instead of tailoring your rasputina crew to be able to handle several situations, perhaps you should focus on just having her be able to accomplish 3-5 schemes really easily. Then use another master from the same faction to accomplish 3-5 very different different schemes just as easily. This way your not struggling trying to have rasputina do something she just isnt made to do.
